I Can’t Be Bothered. Oh Wait, Yes I Can.

I managed to survive “Blue Monday” although it was another one of those “boring nights.” I ate a delicious dinner (alone) at a restaurant whose name I never remember, but always have just called Chi/Thai because it serves both Chinese and Thai food (I can be so clever sometimes). It’s the joint that is right near Southern Nights if that helps anyone. After my photography class I went straight home and curled up in bed with a good internet and went to sleep.

Speaking Of Beds
I read that the fancy-schmancy B.E.D. restaurant in downtown Atlanta is closing. Funny that people don’t want to dress up and then go eat dinner in bed. Boy, we all must be stupid or something.

ITP Flickr Pic
This was one of the shots I took into my Composition class last night.

I'm A Nikkor Whore

The concept behind it was “fill the frame”, I seemed to like the shot more than most of the other people. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

Tell Me That’s It’s Not Only Tuesday
It is isn’t it. Damn this is going to be a long week.

Jumping Back Onto The Magazine Bandwagon?
Last year I made an effort to let all of my magazine subscriptions expire. It wasn’t like I was reading any of them, so I figured why not. The other day I received a free copy of Cuisine At Home and I thought that it looked pretty good. I am going to make a handful of the recipes contained within and make a decision about whether or not I will subscribe.

See, It’s Not Just Me
Remember a few months ago when I incorrectly called the Anaheim Ducks by their former name of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks? Well, I am not the only one…

This is a screen shot of a Mac OS X widget which has also not been updated. I feel a little better now.

CD Pick Of The Week
For weeks I have groaned about the lack of new CDs hitting the shelves. Open the flood gates. Today Metacritic lists sixteen, yes sixteen, new releases.

Of those sixteen new discs I am torn between two, so I will just go ahead and suggest both. The two CDs in question are Of Montreal’s “Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?” and The Shins’ “Wincing The Night Away”. Admittedly I have only heard one or two cuts from each of these so my suggestion of these goes almost sound unheard.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – bothered
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Menomena — “Wet & Rusting”
Website Of The Day – You say you like your new iPod but haven’t found enough books for it? Have you tried PodioBooks?
Exercise (b)Log – none

January Goals
1) Lose two pounds. (starting weight 205 lbs)
2) Run no fewer than fifty miles.
3) Do twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups at least three times a week.
4) See Manchester Orchestra in concert. [failed]
5) Read two books. [one down, one to go]

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I think the name of the restaurant you’re thinking of is Little Bangkok. Parking can be a bitch sometimes but it’s definitely worth it. I especially recommend the Rainbow Duck…mmmm, yummy!

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Ah, that’s the name! Yes, parking stinks there but when you get there as early as I did yesterday (5pm to make sure that I had enough time before my 6pm class) there is little problem.

Next time I go I will try the Rainbow Duck.

You know how to make sure you read your magazines? Keep ’em in the bathroom!

(p.s. is that a new fortune cookie?)

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yes, that is a new fortune cookie. Very observant!

Having them in the bathroom doesn’t help me. I subscribe to the Stop, Drop, and Poop philosophy.

I would also like to suggest Cook’s Illustrated (from the people that produce America’s Test Kitchen, I love that show). I’m never made anything bad from that magazine/show. It is a little expensive, it has no advertising, like Consumer Reports, but worth it.

I had to weed myself off several magazines as well. A few years ago I received and read Time and USNWR cover to cover. Then I got too busy and the mags just piled up. It was hard to cut them off because I would keep telling myself that “This month, I’m going to start reading them again.” Just never seemed to work out.

I used to have a subscription to FHM as well, which is the dumbest magazine in the world that has pictures of hot, airbrushed women in it. No “article” (relative term for FHM’s prose) was longer than a few paragraphs and the topics usually only covered things like cars, guns, extreme sports and of course hot, airbrushed women.

I would never pay for a subscription to FHM, but as it turned out FHM was always giving away subscriptions. $0 seemed like a fair price, unfortunately it wasn’t a very good business model for FHM and they have since folded. Which is a shame because I always found it amusing when Trish would pick up the mail and announce to me that my porno mag has arrived.

  7. Stacy says:

I *love* magazines. Love love love em, especially getting them in the mail. But I agree, CP, $0 is the best subcription price ever.

All summer I’d been collecting those Coke Reward Points (yup — I know! the only one in the world probably!) and just redeemed them for about 40,000 different magazine subscriptions at $0. My postman’s gonna hate me.

  8. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

FHM went out of business? Dammit!

Too funny Stacy. Your postman probably won’t hate you but don’t be surprised if he/she gives you strange looks.
