Out Like A Light

I don’t know what hit me last night, but whatever did took me out for the count. My last recollection of the evening was watching a bit of television around 8:00pm. I woke up around 11:00pm and promptly returned to sleep waking again around 4:30am.

TV Worth Watching Before The Content Providers Become Complete Assholes
There are some really ugly video DRM rules coming into effect on June 1st (again more on December 31st) which aggravate the hell out of me so I’ve decided to get my fill of HDTV before the Studios force us to play by their rules. I can’t give you the deets on what’s coming, but as I think I may have mentioned previously, it ain’t pretty.

In the meantime I am going to get my fill of watching some of these in HD…

Man Versus Wild – In this series a guy, named “Bear” no less, is dropped into the middle of nowhere and left on his own to get back to civilization. Given that this is somehow being recorded to video I often wonder about its authenticity but on the episode I watched I learned how to create a throwing stick lethal enough to kill a bunny rabbit.

Planet Earth – If you grew up a PBS nerd like me then Planet Earth is right up your alley.

1000 Places To See Before You Die – The only problem with this travel show is that a “pretty-people newlywed couple” travel to the places outlined in the corresponding book in the lap of luxury. Sure, travel to these places would be great if someone else was footing the bill for the entire trip.

While I am on this Travel Channel / Discovery lovefest if someone could help me how to convince Samantha Brown to leave her husband for me I greatly appreciate it.

Doh!
Out with another $100. Last year I signed up for a webhosting plan with a company called BlueHost. At the time I opted for automatic renewal, and long since forgot about that until I received notification that it has been auto-renewed. Doh! Anyone have creative ideas how I can creatively use this hosting until next year? 🙂

Would have killed them to throw this into the garbage can?

"Completion" Usually Requires Only One More Step

I hate people who litter.

One Of Three This Week
Tonight, tomorrow, and Thursday I am scheduled to attend shows.

Tonight I will be at Vinyl to see Piebald. I will be getting to the show on time tonight because you may remember that the last time I tried to see Piebald I showed up after they had already finished their set (admittedly it was a weird early show at Masquerade).

The Vinyl / The Loft / Center Stage complex will be a buzz tonight because in addition to the Piebald show, Atlanta’s own Manchester Orchestra (MySpace link) will be opening for Brand New in Center Stage.

CD EP Pick Of The Week
This will probably be on of seven times I get to pick a Robert Pollard release as my “Pick Of The Week.” Today the prolific Pollard releases an EP called “Silverfish Trivia.”

For fans unfamiliar with the name Robert Pollard, he is probably best known being the lead singer of Guided By Voices until they disbanded a year or so ago. Oh who the hell am I kidding, if you didn’t know Pollard’s name you probably also never heard of Guided By Voices either…

Go get this release. You may not like the music but you will be supporting the hardest working man in indie rock.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – okay
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Jam — “Town Called Malice” (imho one of the best songs ever recorded)
Website Of The Day – Yesterday I brought you Twitter, today I bring you a Twitter / Google mashup called TwitterVision a world map showing Twitter activity.
Exercise (b)Log – none
Mode Of Transportation To Work – Marta

April Goals
1) Lose two pounds. (starting weight 202 lbs?)
2) Run no fewer than thirty miles.
3) Do twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups at on Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays.
4) Read three books, specifically
4a) “722 Miles: The Building of the Subways and How They Transformed New York”
4b) “Programming Interviews Exposed: Secrets to Landing Your Next Job”
4c) “50 Fast Digital Photo Techniques”
5) Take Marta to work at least ten times.
6) File my Income Taxes. (since they are due in two weeks I better get this done)
7) Wear “nicer” clothes to work at least one day a week.
8\) Cook dinner at home at least two nights a week.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Is “Man vs. Wild” anything like “Survivorman?” Kind of sounds like it. If so, he does his own filming, setting up and taking down cameras as he needs. Kinda crazy having to worry about all of that while he’s also trying to survive.

    Poor bunny.

Now, if I had to see “1000 Place” (oh, as in, say, 1000 Park Place, New York, NY or something?), I could probably manage it. 1000 Places, however….

Yes, I’m just that much of a snot this morning. 🙂

The ‘s’ is silent, but is now present. 😛

I’ve not seen “Survivorman”, but from what I hear they must be similar.

We watched’Planet Earth’ the other night…loved it! Amazing photography and I even learned something. (Who knew that a six foot, nearly blind salamander lives in a freezing cold river?)

Slow day at work for me today, I have time to read the “live” updates for the Tour De Georgia…….. At least I find it kind of interesting.

Slow day for comments as well. I never got notified of your comment Barb.

ps – tune in tomorrow for a blurb about the TdeG

Depending on your hosting plan and how much data you can play with, you could use the webhosting as an off-site backup for some important files. (Kind of like an X-drive) Or you could use some canned code out there and make your own kind of flickr thing fairly easily (although flickr already works pretty damn well already…)
