Aaaaaand The “New” Me Is Back

My forty-eight hour window for feeling sorry for myself has passed, so I am naturally feeling better about myself. Getting in the best three-mile run that I have performed in ages yesterday probably hasn’t hurt my ego either. Now if I could only shake the last vestiges of this cold.

Read Along With Me
Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.

Time is change, therefore when I do something unfamiliar I literally consume more time per clock-hour. Familiar means less time because less change. Therefore I can lengthen my life by staying out of doctrines and ruts.

To all who have helped me — Thanks.

Meet The “Sub 2:00:00” Laptop
Funny, I always thought that it would be women who would inspire me to do things. Clearly I was wrong, so I’ve moved on to technology. During yesterday’s three-mile training run I decided that if I can accomplish my goal of running the ING Half Marathon in under two hours that I will buy myself one of these.

Isn’t she beautiful!?!?

I will love her; I will take her everywhere I travel; She will get the treatment that those who have passed on me could only hope to get.

Oh The Things I Could Have Purchased
Remember how I used to slam Edgewood Retail District before it opened? Well, I’ll shut up now. Not that all of my efforts were fruitful yesterday, but with one park of the car I went to Wachovia (make a deposit), Lowe’s (parts for an upcoming desk-decluttering project), Ross Dress for Less (looking for cheap tights — not found), Target (because I could), and Kroger (pick up things I didn’t buy at YDFM). I also briefly considered going in to Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and Bed Bath & Beyond, but since I knew that I didn’t need anything from those stores I didn’t. Hell, if there was a “local’s” bar stuffed into one of those ERD storefronts I probably would have sat down for a beer too!

While tooling around Kroger I saw two things which piqued my interest; one I decided not to bite on (no pun intended) and one I placed into my cart. The one on which I passed was a case of long-neck Lone Star beers. I swear that this must have been mis-delivered because there was only one case sitting on the floor and no other Lone Star beer was to be found. I passed on it because there was no indication of its price, and I didn’t want to deal with a price check (foreshadowing). The item I placed in my cart was a four-pack of Brother Thelonious Belgian-style Abbey Ale. Sadly when I went to check out the item was not yet in Kroger’s database, and since I still didn’t want to wait for someone to perform a price check I decided that I’d let it get returned to stock. It’s not like this Kroger is the only place in town selling Brother Thelonious, so I am sure that I’ll get some soon.

Have I mentioned that I can cook? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Andouille Pudding

While this “Andouille pudding” looked a bit of a mess (it could have used another minute or two in the oven but I feared burning the top) it was, and will be for another day or two, quite delicious.

And get this, I am also pleased with the photograph!

No George’s For Paulie
Sorry kids, my face will not be seen in George’s this evening. It’s not that I am avoiding you; have you seen tonight’s weather prediction? Instead this being “Wildcard Wednesday” on my running calendar I am going to try and get a run in at lunch before the precipitation arrives.

My only wish for today is that I had taken Marta to work so that I wouldn’t have to deal what will undoubtedly be a horrendous afternoon commute. Hey, I can use that time to go shopping for some running shoes. Brilliant! I love it when a plan comes together!

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – on the warpath which I guess means that I am enraged and focused?
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Pavement — “Summer Babe (Winter Version)”
Website Of The Day – While reading about decluttering at Decluttered is not as rewarding as actual decluttering, but it’s a good start.
Exercise (b)Log – running, 3 miles
Monthly Foot Mileage – 21.5 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car
Monthly Marta Rides – 6

January Goals
1) Run no fewer than 50 miles [on pace to meet]
2) Ride Marta no fewer than sixteen times (eight round-trips) [future schedule will not permit]
3) Read at least one book [on pace to meet]

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

… and who do you have to blame for resolving to plunk down your hard earned cash for a MacBook AIR so quickly???? ๐Ÿ˜‰ The ad is pretty cool though…..

On the de-cluttering front, I’ve decided that if I just STOP BUYING SHIT, I’ll be able to head in the right direction! If you don’t bring it into your house, you don’t have to throw it out is the gist of it I guess…. easier said than done, however.

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

+1 on not buying shit to clutter the house to begin with. My project will get current items, and their associated cables off the desk. As an added bonus it will also make these much harder to steal.

Glad you are feeling better Paulie. I hope you go for the gold and earn yourself the laptop. Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขll be living vicariously through you. Suddenly, my precious MacBook seems clunky and undignified. I still love it. But damn that Air looks nice.

  4. martha says:

umm…Under two hours…that sounds like a reasonable goal…I guess I should set one for myself. Now what should I get if I succeed?

I will be at George’s tonight, the weather isn’t expected to turn bad until after 8 or so…Maybe I can run with the big boys again tonight.

Two hours is a nine-minute-per-mile average over 13.1 miles. It’s very “doable.” In my heyday I ran the Atlanta Half in 1:51:xx. I was lighter and ran more back then, but had never actually trained for an even.

Besides, it gives me an excuse to buy myself a new toy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good luck with your run tonight Martha. Have a beer for me, and pass along the appropriate salutations for me, will ya? ๐Ÿ™‚

You’re willing to toss away $1800 on a computer that doesn’t have a cd drive or a user-replaceable battery? And only has one USB port? I’m a MacAddict totally, but Jobs has blown it with this one. I’m seeing a lot of negative reviews. My PowerBook G4 has had two battery recalls!

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Yep.

    1) Optical drive is not necessary for me if I can share my peripherals as advertised
    2) I’ve not replaced my iBook’s battery in the 2.5 years that I’ve owned it and I am normally around power. Besides, the two greatest sources of battery suckage are the monitor and the optical drive.
    3) The one USB port I think is a mistake. It looks like Belkin will make a few more bucks selling USB hubs to people like me.

By the end of March the reviews will either be glowing or scathing, if it’s the latter then I can always save my money.

If I only have a beer for you does that count as not drinking?

I don’t plan on staying late (I’ve never said that before) I do want to get home before the weather gets too bad.

My personal time on Thanksgiving was 2:05… so I’ll try for a sub 2 hour time also. I was hoping for under an hour on Saturday but I don’t think the weather is going to cooperate.

I guess I’ll now HAVE to keep running with the A group. Crap!!!

I still don’t know what I want, I’ll be too tired for anything fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

Real men drink their Lone Star from cans.

How many firewire ports are up in that bitch?

  10. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Long necks only for me.

    Zero.
