Macon Whoopie: A Short And Sweet Hump Day

Today I am on the campus of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Another day, another career fair. Just as I have finally gotten over the flu, I return to an environment that loves to pass it around. I’ll be the guy with the hand sanitizer…

I will probably not be seen at George’s tonight (so Steve, no Yuengling tonight again).

Today’s passage from Notes To Myself.

Dishonest people believe in words rather than reality.

To all who have helped me — Thanks.

All I Am Saying, Is Give Knees A Chance
The other night as I struggled through four miles I realized something — my knees were hurting for the first time since I started training. While I am not too concerned with this revelation, I decided to give myself an unscheduled night of rest last night. And you know what? I am really glad that I did.

There’s A Lot Of Nothing Going On In My Bed
I don’t understand how my body reacts to getting under covers. Last night I “goofed off” on the internet while I took care of some data redundancy issues on my iMac. As soon as that was done (around 9:30pm) I dragged my old Winders laptop into the bedroom in order to watch some video. I think my eyes were open for about ten minutes before I fell asleep, only to awaken around 1:00am.

None today. I stink.

A Dog Day Afternoon
What are you doing from 5pm – 7pm this Saturday? Why not go to a happy hour for the hounds being held at the Graveyard Tavern in East Atlanta? The fifteen dollar registration (go here to register) gets you admission and two beverages. During the event there will also be three raffles for which you can purchase tickets at the event.

psst- For the single types there will also be a singles’ meetup after the happy hour. Since I’ve sworn off meeting people for a while I might bail directly after the happy hour, but I will let my mood on Saturday dictate my actions.

Apple Introduces My Next Laptop
One of the reasons that I decided to make my next laptop a reward for the successful completion of the ING Half Marathon was that I had a gut feeling that Apple would upgrade the Macbook in Q1 of this year. I was right! Yesterday Apple introduced new revisions of their Macbook and Macbook Pros. Now I just need to keep training for thirty-one more days…

I’ve Got Fifteen Miles To Cover And Three Days To Do It
Oh no, I’ve got but three days to run fifteen more miles! Damn, I’d have surpassed the seventy-five mile goal already if not for the damn travel and flu.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – fair
Current Music – the “Mac Geek Gab” podcast
Website Of The Day – I’ve yet to figure out how to describe Ffffound.
Exercise (b)Log – nothing
Monthly Foot Mileage – 60.4 miles
Monthly Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car, just not to the office
Monthly Marta Rides – 1

February Goals
1) Run no fewer than 75 miles
2) Ride Marta no fewer than ten times (five round-trips)
3) Read at least one book

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

  1. well, I see now that I screwed up and didn’t change yesterday’s exercise log. D’oh!

  2. Martha says:

I’m so understanding the knee issue. I took last night off also, I was pretty sore after all the weekend ‘fun’ I had.

I think Saturday is going to be a great time, single or attached. We will be there and I know a few others are going to join us. It is just too bad Toby and Ruben can’t come…who could resist those two hounds? Did you see Fawkes is going to donate $100 if Ratpack does bootcamp! That is funny.

  3. Wow, that’s cool.

I am not sure if I will buy raffle tickets. I am not thrilled with the way it is set up.

I also have a feeling that I won’t be staying for the singles event.

  4. Martha says:

I’ll buy a few tickets, I don’t expect to win anything. I guess if you did win something you didn’t want, you could try to ‘trade’ (ala white elephant)…that could be an entertaining way to continue the fun?

Ugh I just looked at the training schedule 5 miles for Saturday (which I’ll probably do Friday) and then 10 miles for Sunday. Martha is not happy.

I think I’m going to start shoping for a road bike this weekend. Once I get one you will have no excue not to ride with me.

  5. Steve says:

No worries about the Yeungling… as the mizzus is on the road, I’m on pony duty- and they get really grumpy when dinner is late.

Is anybody else planning on going to the Leap Year Hash on Friday- if you “old timers” don’t show up, I’m liable not to know anyone!!

  6. Stacy says:

If the Yeungling is indeed still at ITP’s after all this time, I’m for sure breaking in! After all, I know he’s out of town….

Martha, at least it’s supposed to be nice this weekend for your runs! Sorry I can’t join you in helping the poochies event, but I’m sure I’ll be wicked tired after my move. Take pictures!

  7. Barb says:

I think I’ll be going to the Leap Year hash, it will be my fourth. (Allan is working).

If Martha gets a road bike, maybe I will actually ride before the Roswell Mayor’s ride in the beginning of May. (that was the last time I rode that bike). And, maybe then Paul might ride his road bike with us???? And then maybe Steve will ride with us too, that is if he can ride that slow.

  8. Martha says:

    >that is if he can ride that slow

Hey speak for yourself, Brad is pretty sure after I spend a month on a road bike he won’t be able to keep up with me

I’m awesome!!! and so very modest 😉

I don’t think I’ll make the leap year hash…or am I not one of the ‘old timers’ you are refering to?

  9. Barb says:

Steve is a speed demon on the bike (well, compared to me anyway.)
I’m sure you will be faster than me too, all those running muscles that I don’t have.
But then, the last time Steve passed me he was on the tandem with Melissa, so I guess that my excuse, 4 legs to 2.

  10. Martha says:

Ha, my mouth (keyboard) is totally writing checks I’m not sure my body can cash…

  11. Steve says:

I was invited to my old cycling teams get together and ride and I had to admit that I’ve only been on my bike twice this year and one of those was on my rollers.

The tandem is currently sitting in the workshop (alternately known as the Man Cave) with flat tires and a forlorn look. There has been little time to think about a ride.
