I’m Back From FIT And Ready To Get Fit

Hi kids! Look who has internet access again! In case you haven’t seen, I posted ITP: The Lost Episode, which is the blog post I prepared for yesterday but never could upload.

Let Me Guess, You’re Sitting In 9C
My boss and I made it to the Melbourne, FL with time to spare yesterday. The airport was incredibly dead so it took no time to get check in. While checking in I decided to look for a better seat, but with nothing better available I stayed with my original selection of 9D.

With time to spare we bellied up to the bar (where I drank more Yuengling) and started a four-way conversation including the bartender and a woman, who happened to be a doctor, at the bar. The doctor was flying to a conference in Destin, FL from Melbourne, FL via Atlanta, GA. After a few yucks the conversation turned to politics. The doctor decided to figure out the political views of my boss and me by querying our profession and ages. She then said, “I’ll need one more piece of personal information.” so I said “Oh what the hell, I’ll never see you again. I like being on the bottom.” (which is not necessarily true, I was just being a smart ass.) Laughs from everyone were abundant. It turned out that my political beliefs were different from the other three people in the conversation so I became the target of inquiries. After I had enough I offhandedly said “Let me guess, you’re sitting in 9C. Aren’t you…” At which point she looked at her boarding pass to find out that she was indeed sitting in 9C.

The flight itself was uneventful as she proceeded to read for the entire one-hour flight as I stared at the clouds (a topic for another day).

Is My Chumby Becoming A Dumby?
When I arrived home last night I found my Chumby in the confused state that it is always in when I am not around to dismiss the alarm of the alarm clock. I dismissed the screen and was confused to watch it have trouble connecting to my wifi network. All efforts to get it to connect to the internet failed (man, is this ever a recurring theme in my life right now.) Bummer. I’ll try to find time this weekend to get it working again, but it will be low on the to-do list.

I’m a star! Last night Chris Marquardt posted the latest Tips From The Top Floor video podcast. Look who’s included telling the story of the lost hats in Rocky Mountain National Park.
That's One Good Looking Hippie
(btw- this is a screen capture that I took while pausing the video. Admittedly it’s not my best pose, but it makes me laugh.)

While walking through downtown Melbourne, FL yesterday at lunch time I came across this car.
Everywhere You Go
My boss knows about hashing, but still laughed that I stopped to take this photo.

Road Bike Good News, Bad News
Good News: I’m riding part of the Beautiful Backroads Century tomorrow.
Bad News: I haven’t mounted my bike for a few weeks.
Good News: I remembered to locate my extra spare tubes and CO2 cartridge.
Bad News: I looked at the front tire of my bike and it’s completely flat.
Good News: I have time tonight to replace the tube and tire and make sure it holds air.

Come Strut Your Stuff Tomorrow
Tomorrow is the annual East Atlanta Strut. Sadly I’ll be riding my butt off in Cartersville for the early part of the day, but I just may wander up to the village later for a little fun and frivolity.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – overweight, but ready to turn the corner
Current Music – listening to the MacBreak Weekly podcast
Website Of The Day – I just finished off a box of delicious maple candy from Maple Grove Farms. The candy was a gift from my friend Chrissy who happens to be a Vermont native and proudly distributes her home-state’s crack.

Monthly Wheel Mileage – 73 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car

  1. Michelle says:

Are you planning an early start for Beautiful Backroads tomorrow?

  2. Yes. The plan is for Brad to pick me up at 6:30am and drive up there together. We will be pushing off for the ride once we get everything together up there. How far am I riding again? 🙂

  3. Steve says:

Wasn’t your front the one to go flat on the Wilson? Hmmm…. you rode it for 20 miles and it was fine. I’d say put that tube back in as a spare and mount another for tomorrows ride. Clearly it served well enough in (pardon the flat tire pun) a pinch.

It should be a beautiful day for the ride tomorrow- I hope everyone has a gread day!!

  4. It was the front that went flat during the Wilson. Tonight I’ll replace the tube and make sure the tire isn’t the cause of the trouble. I have replacement tires at my disposal so I might go ahead and replace the tire as well.

I’m looking forward to riding tomorrow. It will mark the beginning of “Paulie Attempts To Lose Ten Pounds By Cheddarhead.”

  5. Michelle says:

Sarah, Ray, Sharon, Drew and Myself will be riding. I think the early start is a good idea….I’ve sent an email out to them asking if they want to do this. Hopefully we’ll see you there!
    Michelle

  6. Gentri says:

Can’t we just all get along! So you couldn’t get her to warm up to the “If Paulie was king of the Economy” plan??? 😉

… and then gain it all back in a single day AT Cheddarhead! yaaah poutine!

  7. @Michelle: I hope to see you all up there as well. And not because you are all passing me as I replace another flat tire. 🙂

@Gentri: She was having none of my economic-idea charm. Poutine FTW!

  8. Martha says:

Ten pounds by the end of the year, I’d love to do that too, but at this point I think 5 may be a more realistic goal for me.

You’ve got the advantage, I see it in boot camp every month…the boys drop the pounds like that (finger snap) while the girls struggle a lot more. Plus I’m down to the last 5-10 pounds which are fighting tooth and nail to stick around. You can totally do this Paulie!!!

No bootcamp next week so I’m available for a run or ride any night (or in the morning). A couple of the girls from camp are going to come Monday night also.

You all have fun with the BB tomorrow, wish I could join you but I’ll be doing my part for the boobies.

  9. I’m all for supporting the boobies, but I chose to ride my bike instead.

I really think that if I do the exercising I need to do and be a responsible eater (for which I am not normally known) I can drop ten pounds by Cheddarhead. I’ll look better, I’ll feel better, and I’ll give some woman that I desire the opportunity to snatch up a bargain for 2009.

I will run with you next week, except for Tue and Wed when I will be in Denver. For the next few weeks I have a travel schedule like that of a second-rate musician.

  10. Martha says:

I am riding my bike to support the boobies… Barb and I are on the Bike Crew for the 2 Day Walk.

I got a new cookbook from Cook’s Illustrated with all light dishes. It is pretty good stuff if you ever want to have a look.

  11. Barb says:

I tried to talk Paulie into riding with us at the 2Day, he could be spending all day checking out women, and there are plenty of younger good looking ones, but he just won’t do it. Oh well……….. out of 1000 or so walkers plus the crew, only maybe 100 or so are men.

Have fun riding tomorrow, I really wish I could be riding this one.
Is there another road ride on the schedule?

  12. I *used* to get asked to volunteer. I guess I should hve accepted once. 🙂

I have a ton of cookbooks with healthy recipes. Cooking the dishes and eating in moderation have beens the problems. Starting Monday I will be keeping a food log too.

  13. Ha, Barb and I answered at the same time. 🙂

Barb, I was going to ask about the next ride scheduled as well. Is the SBL the best calendar resource?

  14. Barb says:

You know, I’m not that much of a roadie, but I think the SBL is probably the best site to see what is going on.

    Here’s the mtn biking schedule:
We are going to the Brevard area (Pisgah & Dupont) for camping & mtn biking the 3rd weekend in October, you can always come along & not ride (though you should ride, you will have a good time). Dupont has some waterfalls within hiking distance, and there is a lone hearth that you need to take a picture of to add to your collection.
I think we are going half way to Macon to a mtn bike thing at Dauset the same weekend as the Providence Canyon campout in November.

  15. If that’s the weekend of Oct 18-20 then I’m a maybe. I have a concert ticket for the Friday night of that weekend. How far of a drive is it?

  16. sal says:

I usually go to the Georgia Ride Calendar.

Won’t be riding tomorrow….have the Ekiden relays on Sunday and I don’t want to disappointment my team by showing up with heavy bike legs!

Don’t know if you knew that while riding bikes last Sunday, Janice Anderson crashed on the silver comet trail…broke her wrist….had surgery yesterday ….they put in a plate and screws. Y’all be careful out there tomorrow.

  17. Barb says:

Brevard is about 3 hours – go to Greenville, go NW into North Carolina.
We will be camping at the Davidson river campground from probably Thursday thru Sunday.

  18. Hmm, I *could* drive up after the show or perhaps way too early on Saturday. I’d “camp” in my car so a three hour ride could be doable. 🙂

  19. Lisa says:

10 lbs by Cheddarhead! Great ’cause that will probably be the next time we will get to see you :(. I plan on eating 10 lbs worth of curds that day!! You know, another option the 3rd weekend in October is the LEAF festival in Black Mtn (outdoor music festival)… then we wouldn’t have to wait until Jan to see you!!

  20. I was thinking of making a trip to Raleigh in Nov if a good weekend exists.
