Yesterday Was A Tough “Vegetarian” Day

I am trying. But, I have to admit this attempt to be 5/7ths vegetarian is difficult for me. Perhaps if I was losing the weight that I desire to lose, and of course my lack of exercise takes a good portion of that blame, it would be easier. Lunch and dinner last night were eaten at restaurants which serve meat meals that I thoroughly enjoy. However, given that I had meat on Monday and tomorrow is a traditionally meat-filled day for me, I was “good” and passed. The Caprize salad I ate for dinner was not nearly as satisfying as a Mad Italian sandwich though…

Meetup X 2
I started the post-work night by heading to Joe’s Coffee Shop in East Atlanta for a Atlanta MetBlogs (former) writers meetup. The gist of the story is that we’re getting the band back together to make another run at success. What will that mean for this site? Nothing, except perhaps higher readership. You don’t mind sharing me with others, do you? You don’t seem like the jealous type.

After the first meetup I led Maigh on a serpentine trip from East Atlanta to Castleberry Hill where we wound up at Elliott Street Pub for the Atlanta Photographers Guild semi-monthly meeting. It was a good time sitting around talking to friends with nary a thought of taking my camera out and shooting models.

The night ended fairly early and as I’ve been wont to do lately I hit the sack and was asleep almost immediately.

Ho, Ho, Ho. Now That’s Funny
At dinner the other night I off-handily mentioned to my friends that East Atlanta will have a Santa Claus at Joe’s Coffee Shop on December 6th and 7th. Since they had no desire to fight mall crowds both Mitsy and Mitch were excited at the though of getting their daughter’s first Christmas on “film” in East Atlanta (they live nearby as well). I sent Mitsy the information and wiped my hands of the matter. Minutes later I received an email of thanks from Mitsy because she was able to make a reservation for a sitting.

Last night at the MetBlogs meetup Anne told me “Hey, I heard from your friend about Santa Claus.” I naturally thought she was involved with the organization and had heard from Mitsy. However, when I said the name “Mitsy” she had no idea to whom I referred. Apparently Mitch had Googled “East Atlanta Santa”, landed on a blog post written by Anne, and contacted her about it. Too strange.

Paulie Hears A Hoot
I was awake before 4:30am this morning. Why? Most likely because I was asleep before 10:30pm last night. As I wiped the sleep from my eyes I heard a strange sound from the backyard. It sounded like and owl. It wasn’t your classic “Hoot!”, but it had that owl-like sound nonetheless.

Do you know what owls eat? Rodents. Rats. Mice. Cats and Small Dogs. And because of this I say “Welcome to the neighborhood, owls! Please enjoy my rodent buffet so that they don’t take refuge in my house.”

Dear Jeebus, I’m Going To Run 13.1 Miles Tomorrow?
Fuckity, fuck, fuck, fuck! Once again I planned to train for the annual [sponsor name redacted] Atlanta Half Marathon and once again I failed to train for it. When will I learn? Probably never.

Anyway, I’ll be out there tomorrow morning freezing my ass off. Don’t bother cheering for me however as I’m going to have earbuds jammed firmly into my ears (probably against the rules) jamming for as long as I can.

So What Are You Doing For Thanksgiving?
This is the interactive portion of the blog.

What are your plans for Thanksgiving? If you don’t reside in a country that will be celebrating the United States’ Thanksgiving tomorrow I really want to know what you will be doing tomorrow.

C’mon leave a comment. Everybody’s doing it. And, unlike MetBlogs I don’t require you to create an account and log in order to do so.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Daily
Current Mood – fair, I have an incredibly painful pinched nerve in my shoulder/neck though
Current Music – listening to the CBC Radio 3 podcast (even though Canada has already celebrated their Thanksgiving)
Website Of The Day – A little levity for the holiday. I present to you the official website for Wallace And Gromit. Sadly since Wallace And Gromit are Brits they probably won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow.
Mode Of Transportation To Work – my car
Exercise (b)Log – nothing

Monthly
Foot Mileage – 15 miles
Wheel Mileage – 0 miles
Consecutive Days Of Bed-Making (Longest Streak) – 3 (21)
Vegetarian Days – 17
Carnivorous Days – 8
Marta Rides – 0

Ongoing
Books To Read To Earn Kindle – 4

November Goals
1) Lose no fewer than three pounds
2) Drink no soda
3) Run no fewer than 75 miles
4) Bike no fewer than 100 miles

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Good luck on the run Paulie! I’ll be cheering you on at the end, I will even have a cold beer for you (I know you will need one).

Good luck to all the other ITP readers who are running too. I’ll see you at the end of the r*ce.

  2. Thanks Bob. If you could bring a cold (preferably micro-brew) beer and a single bullet to be used to put me out of my misery it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

  3. Sal says:

WOW…an early entry I can respond to. Thank you Mr. Owl.

For the month I couldn’t do any exercise…I quit eating breads (and it was hard to do because I love bread)….and I actually lost weight. Eating breads now since I’ve been swimming a few nights a week. 🙂

Marty is running the marathon. I will be a timer at the finish line. As soon as Marty finishes and has a few beers with the hashers….we will leave for Florida to spend Thanksgiving with my folks. My brother’s family will be there and my sister and her husband will be there.

  4. Because of the holiday week my 7am study group was canceled this week, hence the early entry.

  5. Bob says:

I’ll do one better for ya, I’ll bring you one of the last beers from the smallest micro breweries around (my kitchen).

Which reminds me, I need to brew another batch. Yay! something to do on black friday!

  6. Woo Hoo to Micro Brew!!!

  7. Laura says:

Bob: no spilling beer on baby’s head, please. Or, do you think that would cure his cradle cap once and for all?

Paulie: see ya at the half!

  8. @Laura: Say “Hello” when you pass me, assuming for some reason that I’d ever be ahead of you. 🙂 Are you running with your sister again?

  9. Laura says:

Yes, we are running together. We did pretty well at the Peachtree City Classic 15K so I’m hoping we do okay. I’m not expecting any miracles though!

  10. Finishing for me will be a miracle. It will be more of a miracle if I can do the whole thing without walking, and even more of a miracle if I don’t injure myself.

  11. Martha says:

I hear owls in the yard all the time, they make the traditional hoo hoo sound. I do worry about Nibbles just a bit, she’s probably a little too big to be carried off but small enough to get hurt.

None have ever sounded like the one we heard at MMM, god that scared the crap out of me. I seem to have a guest in my house also, funny enough, he only seems to like bananas, nothing else has ever been touch (that I can tell).

As for tomorrow, you know what I’ll be doing, freezing my ass off with the rest of the runners, entertaining 20 or so people at the house and getting stuipd drunk!!! Ahh, the holidays.

And I will be cheering for you, you can’t stop me!!

  12. Well if you are cheering me then I’ll be in the last 1/10th of a mile so I’ll be okay with that. 🙂

You have a chimp in your house? Interesting….

  13. Barb says:

I’ll be sleeping while you crazy folks are out in the cold running. Then, Allan has yard work on the agenda, and a big bonfire. We’ve got two huge piles of branches, leaves, etc. to burn. If you see smoke down there ITP, it is probably us. Oh yeah, and we will be eating some turkey in the later afternoon most likely. I’d like to go for a bike ride, but not sure if it will happen.

Sal lost weight not exercising, now that is crazy. But, I don’t know if I could give up eating breads……. that takes will power.

  14. Gentri says:

I’m ITP baby! Shenanigans at a friends house… cooking a bird on the BGE… the one last year rocked hard!

Chainsaw fun while you folks are running! I’ve got a pine tree that is down (and took out 2 smaller trees) that is 18 inches across… fun for the whole family!

  15. Burn? Burn? What do you think just because you have a fireman at the house you know what you are doing???? 🙂

  16. Martha says:

If I do happen to have a monkey lose in the house (really how awsome would that be!), I may just keep him. Probably better mannered and more useful than many of my dates.

I’m going to head to buckhead soon to pick up Betsy’s and my race packets? Have you got yours? I can grab it if you haven’t.

  17. I’ve not gone. I’m thinking about leaving work early, heading to the Intercontinental, heading to an undisclosed location, and then heading home.

If you wouldn’t mind grabbing mine then I’d appreciate it. My number is 9068.

  18. Martha says:

Okay, after I asked you I also asked Sharon, happens she’s down at the Expo now, working packet pickup…she is going to grab mine and Betsy…I’ve asked her to pu yours also, I’ll let you know if I dont’ hear from her before I leave in the next hour or so.

  19. D.D.D.Dave says:

    Have a happy holiday Paulie,

I’m gonna go to my parent’s house in the burbs and veg out with my sister for a couple of days…its gonna be great.

did you see The Pogues are coming…gaaaah…too many shows being announced this week…add that on top of Patton Oswalt doing two shows and Les Savy Fav doing two shows I’m not gonna be buying any presents for ANYONE.

  20. Barb says:

Hey – Cobb county allows anyone to burn, but at least we know how to hopefully not burn down the neighborhood. It would be funny (to me, not to Allan) if the fire dept. did come by……

and Gentri – I’n sure the chainsaw and tree pruner (just a mini chainsaw on a long stick) will be used thursday as well. Allan’s gotten all kinds of new toys this year.

  21. I know this is heresy, but I don’t really care much for the Pogues. I will consider seeing Patton Oswald again, and unless I’ve got my dates wrong I should be at the Les Savy Fav show also.

  22. Martha, I’ve not heard from you. Should I head down and get my packet?

  23. Martha says:

I know I just spoke with you, but I’m picking up the stuff from Sharon after 5? Will you be at George’s or should I just drop it off at your place?

  24. I’m not going to be making it to George’s. I’m supposed to be headed to an undisclosed location after work and then headed home afterward in order to get my rest.

    Thanks again!

  25. Martha says:

I’m going to swing by G’s for just a bit (famous last words). If you aren’t home, I’ll just leave it by the kitchen door.
