Slow Start

Blame the chilly morning, the lack of sleep after another great Cheddarhead (and if you chose to miss Cheddarhead, why?), or my unwillingness to get 2012 started (I have so much work to do!). I’ve been busy processing some photos that I took at the end of Cheddarhead (and may actually post one below).

I’m A Single Guy, With Double Family
As previously mentioned I have a great core of friends — and in one case I’ve been adopted as family. “Uncle”/”Grandpa” (grr)/”Uncle Grandpa” (grrrrrr!) Paulie spent the majority of the weekend hanging out with ITP-Readers Lisa and Randy, newly-identified ITP-Reader Steve (aka Randy’s brother), and the rest of the Sanitary Not! clan.

Friday night the family gathered for some drinks and dinner, along with some post-Christmas Christmas presents.

On Saturday I rolled back over to Tucker to hang out with the family for a day of activities followed by a casual night to ring in the new year. I toted over a growler of Jailhouse Brewery’s Mugshot IPA and Randy and I consumed that until midnight grew near.

Yesterday, after eating a fantastic fritatta breakfast and taking a family portrait, most of the gang participated in Cheddarhead 2012….

Cheddarhead 2012
The original plan was to hang back and watch a bit of the Lions v. Packers. Horror struck as we realized at 1:00pm that Fox was showing the Panthers v. Saints game! Those of us attending Cheddarhead loaded up the car and made our way to the start in Marietta. Knowing that portions of the trails would be difficult to navigate, and knowing where the hash would end (ITP-Reader Barb’s house), our carload decided to skip the actual hashing and instead drove to the beer stop and then to the end.

There were discussions of heading to Tasty China after Cheddarhead, so my decision not to stand in line for poutine, cheese curds, and brats was made for me; besides, I hate standing in lines.

After much merriment Cheddarhead disbanded (I failed to win any cheesy prizes again this year) and the heartier souls made our way to the bowling alley. I’d had much Wisconsin beer to drink, and have I mentioned my bad hip?, but was ready to regain what was rightfully mine — Cheddarhead Male High Score — and garner my third cheese koozy. Something happened along my way to Threepeeting as champion. I not only did not score the highest for all males, I didn’t even come close to scoring highest for the males on my lane! I believe congratulations go out to ITP-Reader Steve for joining the elite group of hashers who possess the cherished prize.

I was starting to get real hungry toward the end of the bowling as I’d eaten a sensible breakfast but only snacked on a few cheese curds and kringle at the end of the hash. I was ready for some Tasty China. Luckily for us Tasty China was open. Our group of nine ordered a great quantity of food, shared most of it, and there was much rejoicing.

Food comas aplenty we toted ourselves back to Tucker, where I passed out at least once on the couch before declaring that it was time for me to return home.

I was the “official” photographer of Cheddarhead this year. Admittedly I was not officially pronounced the official photographer of Cheddarhead, but nobody challenged me on it, so I kept saying it all day.

I was asked to get a photo of the Johnsonville Brats signage so that we can show the sausage maker that their products are being enjoyed by many.

Procrastinating On Goal Setting
I’m going to take this first week to figure out what I want to accomplish in 2012. Sure, I had the entirety of 2011 to figure this out, but I never got around to it.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

It’s true; I am married to the 2012 Cheddarhead Male Bowling Champion!

I thought about a Tasty China stop on the way home, but didn’t really want to leave Farley in the car. I settled for making a black-eye pea, jalapeno, sour cream, cheese dip when I got home. It cleared my sinuses just as well as TC.

No one, and I mean no one was more surprised than me about winning the coveted beer coozie for high score. Makes me want to practice a little before next year, or else never bowl again and retire on top of my game.

A really good time yesterday- record crowd that I don’t think destroyed the yard too badly. Thanks for hosting Barb!! (Allan too.)

Paulie, don’t work too hard today.

  3. Hmmm, seems my email notifications have taken a holiday today too.

Congrats Steve! The Cheddarhead Male Championship has now been dominated by ITP-Readers — you, me, Randy, Bob. 🙂

I’ve tried to rally myself to work but haven’t coded a lick. I’ll pay for this laziness…

Having a mulch-filled yard certainly helps diminish the damages done by pesky hashers. Thanks for hosting Barb.

I’ve created a set for the images I’m willing to share. Go here to look at my Cheddarhead 2012 photos.

I’ve eaten some delicious TC leftovers for lunch and plan to eat the remainder for dinner. Woo Hoo!

  4. Barb says:

Sorry we weren’t in the mood for Tasty China, but a burger was calling my name. (and going there the night before).
Who won the female high score? Congrats Steve! I wish we would have bowled, but getting there late, we just ended up socializing.
It wasn’t that easy to get everyone to leave 😉

  5. No need to be sorry, Barb. I completely understood. I have no doubt that it was tough getting everyone out of your yard.

  6. Barb says:

hey- I didn’t try yesterday because I was on the iPad, but can I just copy those pictures off Flickr to my computer? I want to post a couple on FB, for my out of town friends to see.

  7. You should be able to download the photos from Flickr. If not, I can email you a copy of whatever you want.

  8. Barb says:

I think maybe I’m just not smart enough, but flickr won’t let me copy a picture. So, I guess when you are bored, email the jpgs to me?
