A New Month, Battling The Same Issues

I just can’t seem to shake this crud. I feel 75% well (or so) today, but I want to feel as close to 100% as I can again.

At least this morning didn’t start with the fear of a crashed hard drive. I went a bit nuts yesterday and ordered a 256GB SSD to put into this laptop. I really don’t need the ginormous terabyte spinning drives available today and figure that even if the laptop goes kaput the SSD will be useful down the road.

Today’s Personal Project
Get better and perhaps go to the gym this afternoon.

Today’s Daily Challenge
I’m stealing tomorrow’s challenge because I like it a lot better than today’s.
Write down five activities that make you happy.

Research shows that you can learn to be happier and more satisfied with your life, even if you’re not someone who usually looks on the bright side. By writing a list of things that make you happy, you bring attention to the positive aspects of your life.

Okay, here goes:

  1. Eating/Drinking (I prefer alcohol) with friends
  2. Exercising (weight lifting, bike riding)
  3. Writing beautiful, efficient code (it’s what keeps me in my job)
  4. Getting engulfed in music to the point where I don’t care if anyone else is near me
  5. Doing something that I have not done in an eternity (you should probably read into this one, but I will neither confirm nor deny your assumptions)

Feel free to put your five into a comment.

So Close To Being Caught Up
I wish this title was applicable to all facets of my life, but I can only make this statement regarding Top Chef. Last night I picked up some food from SoBa and joined ITP-Reader Betsy at her house for some eating, wine drinking, and Top Chef viewing. We have watched through to the point where our next episode will be the first part of the season finale.

Never would I have guessed that the two cheftestants who remain (please, I know the winner was proclaimed this week so don’t spoil this for me) would be the last two cheftestants standing. All in all I think that it has been a fairly unremarkable year and that the twists put into the show to change things up a bit have fallen flat.

I look forward to watching the final two episodes some time next week with Betsy.

Nothing again. I swear that this will change next week.

Days Of Note Passed Without Mention
Until now.

I failed to mention that Wednesday was the two-year anniversary of my bike wreck and wish I could say that I am 100% recovered from it. I am still in the possession of the crutches lent to me by ITP-Reader Terri, which is why I’ve added a few one-hit goals for this month.

Yesterday I failed to mention that, had my dad not passed away, it would have been my parents’ 65th wedding anniversary. I guess that it still was the 65th anniversary of the day that the were wed, but since his passing there has been no celebration of the date by my mother.

Speaking of my mother, this past Sunday was her birthday! It would be rude of me to tell you how old she is now, but I guess you can get an idea from the fact that she would have been married to my dad for sixty-five years yesterday. I’m planning on figuring out a weekend in the near future when I can go down to Florida for a visit.

Upping My Game This Weekend
I’ve been trying to up my game by making myself a “better” person and this week I plan to take it to another level. The weather outlook makes it appear as if it will be a great weekend to stay indoors, so I plan to do a lot of organizing, cleaning, cooking, and watching of coding tutorials. Hell, I might even try to schedule some reading time into my life.

I’m just hoping that by Monday my crud will be a thing of the past.

  1. Wow, the shipping industry was really on their game yesterday. The other things I ordered along with my SSD arrived today! The SSD was ordered from a different company so I expect it to arrive next week.

Now if I had only ordered some Goody’s Headache Powder…

  2. bob says:

I think you will enjoy the SSD, people rave about them. Faster boot times, faster performance, I’m looking to upgrade my work laptop.

My #1 should be no surprise but here is my list:
    1. Ride my bicycle (alone or with friends, just love to be on my bike)
    2. Ride my motorcycle. Love to get away to the quiet streets and dirt paths up in the mountains
    3. Tinkering in the garage. I could be changing a tire, cleaning a chain, or just straightening up. I could hang out in my garage (or any garage) for hours.
    4. Watching my son learn something new or accomplish something he was not previously able to do. I really like watching him ride a bike.
    5. Camping. There is nothing like sitting around a fire with a beer in your hand.

  3. Martha says:

Yep, got my Amazon order a day earlier as well.

I’m with you on this funk…I don’t really feel sick, just tired with a headache and sore throat. I’m ready to be done with it.

Okay, wow…5 things, I never really think about what makes me happy, I just am. Is that weird?

    1) Being outside, trail running/hiking
    2) Watching Nibbles, she always makes me laugh (that could expand to many other dogs/cats/animals)
    3) an unexpected, fantastic time with good friends (heck just having friends is awesome!)
    4) Acomplishing something that people (including myself) told me I couldn’t do.
    5) The clam and peace in my life

  4. Martha says:

Dang it..that should be calm, not clam…I don’t like clams, that would not make me happy!

  5. Hehe, I was wondered if “clam” was a euphemism. :O

  6. Steve says:

Clams!! They really make me happy! 😉

No report from last night- chores- unloading 10 bales of hay and 6 bags of feed.

    5 things..
    In no particular order,

Riding my bike- while I’d much rather do it with someone, I don’t mind riding by myself too much.
Spending time with friends- and reading their musings via this blog!!
Relaxing at the farm- it is amazing, just driving down the driveway how the stress rolls off.
Puttering around doing chores on the farm- just mowing the pastures is fun- wait till we have the fence party!
And of course, spending time with my bride…

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  7. HAHAHA, sometimes Apple kills me!!! I just looked up when Daylight Saving Time begins (turns out to be March 10 at 2:00am this year).

Since there was no mention of this in my iCal I went to put in a notification for that day/time, and guess what…. since 2:00am won’t officially occur on that day Apple doesn’t allow me to create a calendar event for that time! Attention to detail. Now if they could only attention to detail that stock back up around $700/share so I can sell my remaining holding.

Holy shit, it keeps dropping! AAPL is now down to $433/share — I shouldn’t have looked today…

  8. Steve says:

    No 2AM? That’s pretty funny… you can have a 1:59:59 I guess?

  9. Jenka says:

Now, clams really *would* make me happy! One of my fondest childhood memories is being at my family’s summer house on the Narragansett Bay and digging up clams and then immediately steaming them up, dipping ’em in butter and eating them. Mmmm!

    1. Eating and drinking with friends: this is pretty much my all-time favorite activity.
    2. Exercise: this falls into the category of “things that make me happy” although I don’t necessarily like to DO it; but the effects definitely make me happy.
    3. Reading: British literature, approx 1700-1900.
    4. Traveling.
    5. Fornication. Yeah, I said it.

  10. ***speechless***

    🙂
