Late Shift

When my alarm rang this morning I did not want to get out of bed. So I didn’t. In fact, it is from my bed that I write this blog post. Ain’t technology grand? As soon as I wind this post up I will jump into the shower and get out the door, hopefully missing the morning’s rush hour.

Back To My Mac, No Beer Credits
I joined some out-of-town coworkers for dinner and beer at Taco Mac after work yesterday; I had two beers and some vegetarian fajitas. However, I received no credit for my beer drinking because I did not pay for the beers. One of the higher-ranking attendees picked up the entire tab so I ain’t complaining.

No Trivia Tonight
I received a message yesterday informing that the band is not getting back together tonight (nor next week as we’ll be haunting Monday Night Brewing instead). So, I’m free as a bird tonight. Well, as free as a bird with a looming software release on Monday and many sticky problems pertaining to it can be I suppose.

Changes Afoot
No, I’m not getting cosmetic surgery on my feet, nor am I getting mandated surgery on them either thankfully.

I will be making some changes in the near future, of course I will outline as many as I can publicly discuss on this here forum.

For instance, I have started building German vocabulary flashcard files; tonight I will begin writing my one flashcard app using them. A flashcard app is far from unique, but it will walk me through the many development steps for which I need refreshing. Also, once written in Objective-C I may rewrite the app in Swift.

For another instance, tomorrow I will be leaving my German comfort zone (I’m sure that they have one very-long noun for this) and attending my first German Breakfast at Geothe Institut (Deutsches Früstück be Goethe Institut). I am told that participants are placed a tables containing others at or near their own German skill level to facilitate conversation. Good thing we learned many names of food items last week, else I might have had to do much pointing and smiling. The breakfast will also have a speaker, I understand that she will have two topics — one spoken in German, the other in English. It should be interesting.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Spent some time with the in-laws last night, one of their remodel ideas for the laundry room moving doesn’t look like it can happen, because of where the plumbing is & the slab. Well, it could happen for a hell of a lot of money, but they don’t think they want to spend that much. So, back to the drawing board with some of the design.

Tonight has turned into a Tasty China night, one of our friends wants to go & who are we to say no.

    Yesterday was a dark blur.

We also had a meal at Taco Mac- have you tried the shrimp mango tacos? Really good.

A shopping expedition to the newly opened Harbor Freight. Fun toys.

Tomorrow (off day Friday) we’re planning a trip to the dump (living on the edge!) and hopefully some fencing and a bit of exercise.

Steve- just remember one thing about Harbor Freight – the tools from there work ok if you don’t work them too hard.

  4. Steve says:

Yeah, there was nothing American made… we used to say CFC- Crap from China.

JoAnna calls it the chinese hardware store. At first I had to think about it, then I knew where she was talking about.

  6. There is a HF not far from my office. I keep meaning to buy a torque wrench from there for the one time I will need it this year.

Harbour freight is great but you have to be careful because they do have a lot of crap.

Last night was a dining experience I will not soon forget. We went full on with beverage pairings for all the foods we ate. And we had a lot, from quail eggs, to sea urchin, to whiting, to caviar, to foie gras, and on and on. There were 15 courses and 2 desert courses all paired with white wine, red wine, sake, and beer. It was incredible. Apparently it is a top 5 restaurant in San Francisco. If you are ever out here and you have a vendor that doesn’t mind dropping over $400 a head on dinner I highly recommend Benu. 🙂

Nice work if you can get it, Bob! Sounds amazing.

  9. Barb says:

holy crap Bob – $400 a head? you are hanging with the right crowd.
