Three Days Running…

…um cycling.

Inspired by the TdF riders, or perhaps my desire to actually lose weight I have been on my bike the last three days, riding 26 miles, 31 miles, and 25 miles respectively. While it has felt really good to be out riding again the humidity has posed some challenges. Right now I am sitting in front of a desk fan blowing directly on me in order to dry out, and this is after I’ve taken a shower. Ugh. Of course as soon as the weather turns chilly I’ll whine about that too. 😉

Tomorrow will be a mandatory rest day because it’s German Class day and I have to get an early start at work so I can leave work early.

Atlanta, Where The Wild Things Are
On Saturday’s ride I saw a snake, this morning I saw a doe. Both times I was inside the perimeter in the Mount Paran / Harris Trail area.

On Saturday I was in my Ireland jersey; the snake seemed unfazed by this, perhaps it knew my name wasn’t Patrick?

Thinking About The Coming Cold
This is usually the time of year when I would sign up for late-Fall, early-Winter events forgetting that by the time the event arrives the weather will be drastically different.

I’m also trying to figure out how I can cycle train this Winter. I’ve never gotten my trainer back from Little Willie (I think he’s had it for three years now) and I’m trying to decide if I should purchase another trainer or perhaps a Spinning-style stationary bike. I know my aversion to cold, I shall not want to be outside riding even with the appropriate winter gear.

I Almost Went Hashing Yesterday
Had I planned my day better I could have gone to the Black Sheep Hash. I really wanted to go because it was the annual Lions Run, and because I haven’t been hashing since last September, and I need to start getting some hashing/running in before going to Portland for InterAmericas Hash on Labor Day weekend. Perhaps in two weeks time…

Okay, gotta run, cycle, um, go. Hope your weekend was great.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

A lovely wedding attended Saturday, with a very nice reception at what used to be the Marietta country club and is now a Hilton hotel.

Yesterday I attempted to ride my Crossbike but was midway along a gravel road when I had a flat tire. I had remembered to put in the proper spare tube in my pocket so that was covered, but I had never used the inflator before. I got an education using that because it would freeze up and not move air. Once I got home I use the same cartridge again and was able to put sufficient air in

Debbie’s Family came over to start the ramp building project. We didn’t really want a ramp but I think it was the best decision to keep peace in the family. Unfortunately I had to leave to go disassemble the dance platform downtown. Happily the dance platform went down a whole lot faster than it went up. We had many thanks from dancers and parents of dancers for a job well done.

Off today in place of this coming Friday and waiting on the loggers to start taking trees down. Also fighting the good fight with the home laptop and getting an Internet connection.

I’m back – at work – trying to figure out what all went on while I was gone.

new record coming home, right at 12 hours. We only stopped 3 times, for gas (& food & the bathroom).

I bought a bushel of sweet corn on Saturday before I left, (Allan thinks I’m crazy, but what else is new) so we I think are going to have a sweet corn party Saturday night.

The A/C was taking forever to cool the house back down when we got back last night, so a friend that has a A/C business is coming over later today to check on it. We don’t want it to completely break before getting it checked out. Yeah – spending more money – I’m going to be SOOOO broke by Labor Day.

Iowa wasn’t that expensive really, but spending so much cash everyday on beers/drinks & food, you realize how much money you are spending.

  3. Oh yeah, today is ITP-Reader Lisa’s birthday. I’m not sure how much she reads the blog these days, so if you really want to wish her a happy birthday you should probably do so on the Facebooks. 😉

If your going to buy a spinner-style stationary bike, don’t forget to check out Craigslist. I’ve gotten some pretty good deals there and usually exercise equipment is slightly used and almost brand new.

  5. Steve says:

You need something more than a spinning bike, but Ronnie is right. Craigslist would be a good start. I think I have an old set of rollers if you really want to do some work. And I know I found the fan you can attach that will make it just as hard as the road.

  6. Don’t know if I trust myself on rollers. LOL

  7. Barb says:

and-sweet corm party will be SUNDAY afternoon/evening, I don’t know what day it is or Allan’s schedule I guess.

  8. Paulie Social Calendar updated! I’ll see everyone on Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY!

  9. Barb says:

    and – I forgot – I got you a Team Wimpy jersey (a whole $25) and 2 pairs of socks – with tax – around $17.
If Allan ices them down, we also have some New Glarus beer from my brother Dan, and we also got some Iowa made bourbon & rye, if you want to taste. (they are actually pretty good)

Sweet! Thanks. I will bring money, an adventurous spririt, and some beer on Sunday. If you want me to bring snacks, side dish, or dessert too, just let me know.
