2022-11-07

With the exception that I ate and drank far too much this weekend, oh, and that we had a brief downpour on Saturday it was a good weekend of camping. I admit things are still weird for me, but I am trying.

Time to start working on myself this week. I want to start getting my life back in order, and lose some weight, before Thanksgiving arrives in a few weeks.

I solved today’s Wordle in three attempts; my starter today was AGILE

  1. They say the early bird gets the drier leaves. I spent about twenty minutes raking leaves from my driveway into my carport, as quietly as I could as to not to wake my neighbors. I see conflicting reports about whether or not we will be getting rain today, so I want to ensure the leaves that will be added to my compost are as dry as possible.

heading out shortly to Norcross for the flu vaccine trial appt at 0900am.
    Did you ever call them?
GPS says 40 minutes right now – wondering how much worse it will get???

    Weekend was non eventful.
Saturday did the Alzheimer’s Walk at the Battery – then had some drinks in the parking deck, then lunch at Terrapin.
By the time we got home, it was nap time.
Sunday was a Mtn bike ride and yard work – this time of year I HATE all our trees. SO MANY LEAVES. and – they are only about 50% fallen.

    • Going to call today. It’s on my list of chores.

Prior to farming I would leave the leaves until they all fell and then just blow them into a corner.

I’m getting Sally a $100 referral, and me one (from Allan) .
At least this study seems to have plenty of money to pay for things.
So, Paulie- don’t forget to tell them my name eventually.

And, I’m going to get the shot today too. Allan & Sal both had to do this in 2 visits. A little less money, but not having to drive over here twice is a good thing

A busy weekend at times. A wedding at Tellus Museum Saturday afternoon- a lovely place for a “new age” ceremony. The officiant said his credential was from some mail order thing, but still recognized by the state. I guess that’s all that matters. Some unhappy football fans- me and a whole lot of Tennessee fans. And the rest of the Alabama faithful. Again, a game I think we beat ourselves on penalties and out coached at the end. Putting everything into one last play in overtime- win or lose- was a gutsy call.

Sunday, a ride on the CX bike. I got home fairly exhausted, and Debbie drags me off to see the Blue Angels. OK, even what little we saw was pretty cool. Wished I had the good camera with me as they went directly overhead TWICE! I had a great view and had a good pic framed in my head… oh well.

Wordle in 4, Mini in 3.

Wordle in 4, mini is 2 minutes. I never do these things on my phone, mini seemed to be harder this way. I had 1 letter wrong & couldn’t figure it out.

I had a splendid weekend. Lunch at Petit Chou with some new friends on Saturday, pizza from Emmie Squared with old friends Saturday night. Of course I had to order the Good Paulie pizza, which is tasty. I would order it again. Man, they totally took the amazing vibes from The Shed and flushed that down the toilet. It feels like a suburban strip mall restaurant now.

Sunday morning I logged 22 miles on my bike. I headed down the Eastside trail with no particular destination in mind, and ended up meandering to the west side to ride the Proctor Creek Trail and the Westside Beltline, and then across the Southside trail back to Grant Park.

I did have a bikeoholic moment on the Proctor Creek Trail when I crossed a street that I’ve taken to the Silver Comet Trail. My tongue involuntarily liked my lip like an alcoholic anticipating that first taste. I didn’t have the time or the provisions, but the pull was definitely there.

I went for a meandering walk with a couple friends last night that ended up taking us to Wild Heaven Brewing in the Lee & White complex. I’ve ridden by there countless times on my bike but had never set foot inside. Talk about a transformation of an underutilized industrial building. We Ubered back after a beer and cooked burgers and brats at my house.

2023 is going to be very different for me than 2022 and years prior, in a good way. I won’t elaborate further for now other than to say something has finally shifted with regard to a longstanding impasse in my life.

    • Steve says:

Good work, David! Nice to hear your hope for the future.

    • Nice!

I will be at the new music venue at Wild Heaven, The Garden Club, on Wednesday evening.

      • David says:

I had no idea how much that complex has grown and how many options there are. For instance, this is the first I’ve heard of the Garden Club. I’ll definitely get back over there again soon and spend more time roaming around. My knee was complaining about the walk, so I had to sit down and rest and elevate it when we got there. A long soak in an epsom salt bath last night after dinner helped set me right again.

        • The Garden Club is new. I heard about it via an email for the Mike Doughty show there in December, and then saw that Corb Lund and Lauren Morrow are co-headlining there on Wednesday night. I’ve seen both artists with their bands so it will be interesting to see what they do Wednesday since Lund’s band is not touring with him and Morrow’s band has disbanded.

sounds like a nice full weekend!

“I admit things are still weird for me, but I am trying.”

I was really happy to see you write this today, Paulie. Life is just generally weird, on many levels, and the polarization of our society is by no means helping it. But this is great, all we can do is try, and keep trying. Admitting the weirdness helps too. I’ve find it’s FAR better to own the weirdness like you did, because otherwise the weirdness owns you.

I’m on the 5th stage of Wordle today and still don’t have a fucking clue what the word is, so maybe I’ll try again later. I did solve the Saturday and Sunday Wordles in 3. Coulda had Saturday’s in 2 because I had 3 out of 5 letters correct with my opening word.

  7. Barb says:

finally, I’m back at my desk at 1:15pm – after leaving a little after 8am.
BUT – I’m all done – $200 richer – and from now on just fill out an eDiary (I think $15 every time, and its daily at 1st) about how I feel and a phone call now & then. (I need to look & see how much they pay for hte phone calls 0 I think $50).
This study (because its Moderna mRNA???) pays really well.

And of course, its turned into a busy day work wise – I’ll be working a little late
