Happy Friday the 13th!

My oh my. I hope all of the ITP Readership weathered the storm yesterday. The cellphone fired off a Tornado Warning and I headed to the basement for a little while. While I have not been outside to confirm, I don’t think that the ITP Estate suffered any more damage than being littered with sweet gum balls. I think my neighbor’s sweet gum tree lost another limb, but from my bedroom window I saw no new branches in my yard, so it must have landed in the theirs.

My West African inspired peanut stew was good, but not as flavorful as I was hoping.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was CLUMP

  1. Lisa Marie Presley died? I didn’t see that one coming…

PTO today, as one of the hunt members sustained a direct hit yesterday. Everyone – 2 and 4 legged are ok, but lots of cleanup.

We didn’t have anything but rain, a friend sent a message about a tornado in Hogansville. I turned on channel 2 and they were basically in my neighborhood! All the while they are naming places I ride (Allie, Rocky Mount, Alvaton) and that’s pretty much how it tracked. Never a dull moment around here.

Wordle in 4 starting with SAINT.

    -FP

  3. Davis says:

I’m glad the tornado didn’t affect your place, Steve, that was a close call. Paulie, my phone didn’t send an alert, so it’a interesting that yours did.

Wordle was brutal today only one letter and in the wrong place for 4 attempts. At least that eliminated enough letters to get it in 5. Mini in 48.

I nixed my Silver Comet ride today due to the forecast of 40 degree temps and 18 mile an hour winds. That just would not be fun.

I have dinner plans tonight at Wylie & Rum, which is a fairly new Caribbean restaurant on Moreland. I’ve been before for lunch, it’s good.

  4. Trying to straighten out my health insurance. Need to cancel COBRA and initiate new plan selected via ACA. What a PITA, especially since my “new” insurance provider was one I have had previously so website navigation and account setup is a bit of a cluster.

  5. Going to finish my coffee and read my daily short story before suiting up for some cold manual labor in WLF

weird Friday the 13th morning – a lot of our applications have disappeared off our computers – the IT people are trying to figure out what has happened.

Chrome is gone, but Microsoft Edge is still here.

No damage here – but it was a crazy I’ll say 30 minutes of a storm

  7. Jenka says:

Yeah, like Barb said, it was like 30 minutes of a pretty bad thunderstorm. By the time I left the office at 5 it was barely raining.

Met up with my bestie at Spoon last night for dinner. Delicious as usual.

I am working from home this morning because we have a contractor coming at 10:00 to discuss our kitchen and bath reno. We are going to do very small changes that will affect our quality of life. Our office closes at 2:00 today but I have meetings until after 4:00. I don’t mind, it’ll be quiet!

No weekend plans at all. We have Finn again because it’s our year for MLK. Probably do a family mani-pedi outing, we all enjoy that!

    • I like Spoon, but rarely eat there.

May I ask how you decided on your contractor? It’s a little-known fact that the ITP Estate needs some repairs. 🙂

      • Jenka says:

We have friends in Grant Park who did a massive, beautiful kitchen reno so we just chose their guy. He sent us design estimates and I think he might be very expensive.

        • Thanks! Very expensive is out of my league. The ITP Estate needs more than a kitchen and one bathroom reno. Perhaps an unfortunate explosion whilst I am away is the solution for me…

          • Jenka says:

Unless you’re planning to do the work so you can live in it, there’s no point in doing it. Anyone who buys the place will want to renovate in their own style. It wouldn’t hike the price up enough to justify the time and expense.

We are doing a couple of things to make our daily lives easier, with the full knowledge that whoever buys our house in the future is going to rip the back off and re-do the whole thing.

          • David says:

Yes, I had that same experience with my first house in Buckhead. The idiot developer that bought it fucked around and had a stop work order put on the house after he’d taken the roof off, so it ended up getting scraped and replaced with a McMansion. It’s too bad, circa 1950 brick ranches (known these days as midcentury moderns) were solid houses. But it wasn’t my house any more, and so it went.

          • Barb says:

Its too bad they keep buldozing all the brick ranches. I love our 50s house, and we can live here when we are old – barely any stairs.
Mid Century Modern- good to know the term.

    • Barb says:

      Jenka –
we were to Treat Your Feet on Buford Hwy a week or 2 ago – that might be something fun to try with Finn. Its $45 for an hour. I love foot massages.

That storm came through like a freight train, fast and furious but left quickly. It was all cleared up by ramble time so we hard scape rambled from Avalon to Jekyll then to Currahee brewery. Good times!

Happy nobody suffered damage from the storm.

  10. Puttered around WLF picking up things blown around by the storm, and at least one hundred GD sweet gum balls.

  11. Barb says:

Got out of the house today –
Went over to Jackson to take 1 capsule of something that had Tumeric & something else. Didn’t pay enough attention to what it is for (pain & arthritis?), but I will get $35 for 10-15 minutes.
Then to Discount Tire to meet Allan, nail or something in a tire that needed to be plugged. Instead of waiting, we just dropped it off, since I was out & about anyway.
Just went back & got it. I do like the lifetime guarantee I bought on those tires, they’ve had a few plugs & 1 time got new ones (discounted heavily becuase of they wear).

Dinner tonight is a pot roast – its in the dutch oven cooking now.

  12. Steve says:

Back from cleanup duty. The house was spared, but the barn had the metal roof and peeled off and scattered for 300 yards. Trees downed on 4 board fenceline. We pieced together the fence, carved up so trees and collected the roof in the pasture. Only one horse injured with a cut the length of him from a piece of roofing. Will be fine and have a cool scar. Cold in the wind, but inspired you to keep moving. I’ll bet about 20 folks total. Good to have neighbors.
