I don’t know if it was the heat, poor air quality, my weight, my lack of riding, or some combination of all of these that caused me to have a difficult ride last night. I struggled to keep up with the pack. I am glad I went out for the ride, but it kicked my ass.

Like everything else in this world the price of Peacock+ is going up. Yesterday I received an email alerting me that the price of the annual plan is being raised to $120/year from $100/year. Fortunately I just renewed my annual subscription in June, so I have eleven months to decide is I want to pay that much for their service next year.

Trip to the Waschsalon this morning and then home to do some choring in preparation for my next work trip (read “trip to FL”). Last night I tried to imagine inventing a house which could be completely monitored and administered remotely, and then what I realized that I was trying to invent is available via assisted living.

I solved today’s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was SWAMP.

  1. Apparently my mother’s cable tv isn’t working (I would not be surprised if she pressed some button which changed inputs or whatever). Not knowing this I accidentally canceled, and rescheduled, the cable company appointment until Friday thinking that the confirmation email I received was a rescheduling done by her phone company with whom I have scheduled a Friday appointment. When I realized my mistake I scheduled the cable company for today again, but the appointment window is three hours later. I apologized and explained what happened, but she was not pleased.

Have I mentioned that this trip may be less than enjoyable? *eyes looking upward*

Wordle in 5, which is a shame as I had 3 letters in my first guess.

Sorry for what you’re going through with your mom. She should know you’re only trying to do what’s best for her and you have to remember to be patient, as she is set in her ways- much like her son.

The switch for the ceiling light went bad and I tried to replace it last night. Apparently, my electrical skills/knowledge aren’t as good as I thought as we are still in the dark and I’ve now killed the breaker itself! And I hate going into the panel…

Debbie’s PCP reviewed everything that’s been going on and made suggestions on the meds. Gave her a quick look see and sent us on our way.

Last dinner from the hunt last night- pork roast and pasta with veggies. Very tasty. I guess I better start cooking.

    • For some the child eventually becomes the parent. I’m trying to be patient, but it’s getting harder. I felt as if I were screaming into my cellphone last night as I tried to explain to her what had happened.

      I have no repair skills.

Do you still get the boxed dinners?

“she is set in her ways- much like her son.” The apple sure didn’t fall far from the tree in this case. 😉

  3. Barb says:

my Dad had oral surgery with 2 molars removed Monday – Tom had way too much fun that evening – damn blood thinners really make it hard for the clotting that is necessary in his mouth to happen.
My mom of course can’t really remember what all had happened, so the conversations are always “entertaining”.

My parents screw up the TV ALL THE TIME, so who knows what buttons they push, but eventually someone figures it out.

    • I’m sure my mother messes up the tv all the time too, heck I do too, but I can figure out how to fix the problem. Last time I showed up the neighbor was there trying to help her out. This is the first time, of which I am aware, that the cable company was called to roll out a truck.

    • David says:

I haven’t used a traditional TV remote in years and years. I have a Harmony remote that has an app we all use on our phones and turns everything on. I used to never know where the goddamn TV remote was, but I *always* know where my phone is, which probably isn’t a good thing.

  4. I’m finding that as I get older I have less tolerance for businesses who can’t get their shit together. I stopped for gas at a nearby Chevron which offers an Upside discount. Their credit card reader told me to see the cashier. When I canceled that and tried to pump gas and then pay inside, as their screen said I should be able to do, and then screen never reset so that I could pump gas, I put the nozzle back and drove off. I will buy gas elsewhere, even if there is no Upside discount.

    • Barb says:

I figure its going to be less than $2 when its a pain for upside – I just go ahead & get the gas & don’t worry about it.
BUT – the DOSH website doesn’t need the receipt -Big brother truly knows everything. I did get $65 from them for my AT&T (we call it Uverse) bill. That was a nice surprise.

      • Upside and I don’t see eye to eye on occasion. I was going to use this purchase to get over a $30 hump, at which point I was going to cash out.

I got that $65 credit one month too and was pleasantly surprised. As soon as that hit my Dosh account I cashed out, juuuuust in case it was an error.

I often wonder how much money these companies make from selling our data. It must be a lot, otherwise they’d no longer be in business.

      • And I am keeping track of how much I earn from Prolific in a spreadsheet. The money I earn from it is earmarked to (help) pay for next year’s trip to Europe.

  5. Used my Waschsalon time wisely, scheduling appointments for CHaRM as well as routine maintenance for the M6 while waiting for my clothes to dry.

  6. steve says:

I occasionally run into small gas stations that REQUIRE you to come inside. That’s the one that bugs me the most. If I’m able, I’ll go somewhere else.

Barb, I completely understand about trying to stop bleeding. As someone on simply a baby aspirin every day, I have random bruises and can scratch myself and start bleeding and not even know it. Did they not back off his blood thinners prior to the surgery?

    • Barb says:

Steve – well, Tom didn’t think about it I guess – or didn’t ask, or whatever.
So unfortunately, no…… (I’d have thought the oral surgeon would have asked about it, or told him to call the cardiologist, or something)

  7. Jenka says:

My bestie Sarah had shoulder surgery on Monday so last night I picked up some takeout from Spoon and brought it over. Did some small things that she can’t do with her arm in a sling.

I’m so glad my dad immediately sold the house after my mom died and moved into a retirement community.

Monday my great aunt Dottie turned 105. She is a war hero from WWII, and the town of Oxford, MA, where my family is from dedicated a park to her. Amazing!

  8. As far as my mother knows, I am still employed. She has called me twice this morning already and I have dismissed each. I will call her back when I am “at lunch”.

  9. I apparently missed a crash on todays TdF stage?

    • steve says:

I’m actually having to work! (DON’T THESE PEOPLE KNOW IT’S JULY!) and only have it on in the background. I haven’t see a big crash.

Wordle in 4 today, I had parctial 3 matches on my first word and 4 exact matches on my third.

I tried adding a comment above to correct the “your” instead of “you” in my reply to Jenka but the server wasn’t having any part of that.

  11. Looks as if the leading cars/motorcycles in the TdF need cow kickers to get the stupid “fans” off the roads.

The finish is on a runway at 17%!! Holy $hit!
