I think that a good time was had by all last night. As I am wont to do I ordered and ate too much food, in addition to the beers consumed. The gang started with a beer at Halfway Crooks, ate dinner (and drank a beer) at Wood’s Chapel, and had a nightcap from Junior’s Pizza. I’m sure my weight today will reflect last night’s indiscretions. šŸ™‚

This being the first of a month seems like a great time to try to turn my life around. Today I will be forcing myself to restart my efforts to become employable, as well as reverse the trend of putting on weight.

I solved todayā€™s Wordle in four attempts; my starter today was TRACK.

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 198.4 pounds (+1.4 from the last weigh-on)

  1. A new month sadly didnā€™t bring the return of Apple emoji. I know that I continue to whine about this, but it bothers me that I can no longer have them in blog posts and cannot find out why they no longer work.

  2. Sally says:

Glad I could share a birthday outing with all you youngsters and put a face with a name. Fun evening. Make sure you ride tonight Paulie and start the month off right. GUTS Tuesday night run with beer and pizza in the parking lot. :). Working today which I normally don’t on a Tuesday. School starts today in Cobb County so the traffic pattern will be different. I offered some fresh garden tomatoes to Wilma’s (the dog) dad….he said he didn’t like tomatoes and tomato sandwiches were the worst. WTH? Who is this guy? Mom continues to improve so I am home from Florida for awhile as my brother and sister-in-law are now on mom watch.

    • Glad you could join us.

No rain in sight for tonight, so riding will happen for me. Enjoy GUTS.

Not liking tomatoes nor tomato sandwiches? Inconceivable!

Best of luck with your mother.

    • David says:

It was lovely to meet you, Sally! Wilma’s dad is clearly from some other planet. šŸ™‚

  3. steve says:

Wordle in 3, which feels like a win after my 6 yesterday.

Repairs to the mower went off without a hitch, as the hardware store in Luthersville had exactly what I needed. Perhaps the big box stores would have as well if I remembered it was metric.

Glad y’all had a big time last night. It was home made pizza last night for dinner.

  4. Bob says:

Sorry I missed the meetup, been too long since I have seen you folks.
Turning my life around is also a good idea, been lazy as hell since BRAG and fell in to a rut. Need to make some changes and shake things up.

    • steve says:

Yeah, I’ve definitely been a slacker since BRAG, and I didn’t even do BRAG, so no excuse!!

    • Last night there was a discussion about getting together for a bike ride sometime soon, perhaps on the Silver Comet. Iā€™ve never seen Davidā€™s fancy-pants road bike.If plans are made I will certainly publish them here.

      • David says:

I’m riding the Silver Comet on Saturday as a warm-up for Cades Cove. My brother will be with me, and I’m going to try to coax him through his first half-century.

After next week my schedule calms down somewhat. It calms down A LOT after Labor Day, so let’s plan a September date. It’ll be here before we know it, and it’ll be less hot on the Comet.

    • David says:

Let’s get something on the calendar, Bob! We discussed having the next meet-up in Candler Park so that we could entice Jenka out.

      • Jenka says:

Please. You just wanna go to Fellini’s. I see through you.

        • Spot on Jenka! When this was raised I remarked ā€œat what time are there no children there?ā€ *snark*

That being said, Iā€™ll go to Felliniā€™s at any time.

        • Barb says:

          again – PIZZA – I’m game

        • David says:

Rest assured, Jenka, I make my way to Fellini’s quite a lot without you. šŸ˜‰ So much so that my daughter is burned out on it. My friends Jamie and Scott both live in Candler Park, so we tend to meet up there almost every other week. But I’m always down for more Fellini’s.

        • Jenka says:

I know how this is going to sound, but I’m going to say it anyway: they actually have a really great salad at Fellini’s.

          • “Salad minus 6 (no onion), slice with mushrooms” is my usual Fellini’s order.

          • David says:

I agree, I’m a fan of their salad too. I like to get a slice of Hawaiian, and as of late I’ve been getting a slice of white with sausage and black olives on it too, if I’m hungry enough for 2 slices.

          • Jenka says:

That’s hilarious, I like to get a slice of the white with sausage, too. The salad is actually quite large so Kevin and I usually share the salad and then get a slice.

            Hawaiian pizza is just wrong.

          • Barb says:

            HAWAIIAN PIZZA IS SO RIGHT!

          • David says:

LOL, I love stirring up trouble on the blog. šŸ˜‰

  5. Barb says:

Halfway Crooks has a weird vibe to me, but the beer I had was good, so we would go back. I think the acoustics inside was why, it wasn’t that busy but it seemed really loud. Maybe next time the weather will be better & we can sit outside, and I’ll like it a little more?

Woods Chapel BBQ was tasty too.

    • Jenka says:

Woods Chapel is currently my favorite BBQ in Atlanta. Glad you liked it!

      • What do you recommend, Jenka? All but Barb ordered the Brisket Grilled Cheese sandwich, which was tasty; Barb ordered smoked turkey. The beans and burnt ends side I ordered was also great, but I was disappointed with the beet and jalapeƱo cole slaw.

        • Jenka says:

I always get the pulled pork, it’s super delicious. It must have been an off night for the beet and jalapeno slaw, I also loooove that.

      • David says:

I do like it a lot better than Fox Bros.

    • Agreed. I’ve never been to their outdoor Biergarten, but I have been to their upstairs seating area and that’s nice. I really liked the barbecue as well.

What struck me as odd, though I know it shouldn’t, was seeing all of the “youngsters” out and about. I mean, I know that the area is filled with GSU students, but I remember Summerhill as a vast wasteland, and an area you’d only visit if you were going to a Braves game.

      • David says:

This is exactly why I wanted y’all to see Summerhill. It is no longer the same as it ever was.

    • David says:

I’ve only been to Halfway Crooks one other time, back when they opened, and I had the same feeling last night that I halfway like the place. They’re following the New Realm model of charging out the ass for beer that you have to go to the counter and order. Give me some service if you’re going to fleece me. I’d go back, it’s just not a place I’ll every say “You gotta go…” It just makes for a nice stop on a Summerhill stroll.

      • I noticed my $6.50 beer rang up over $8. Clearly tax isnā€™t that much so I looked at the screen and saw a $1.27 ā€œretail service chargeā€, which became the tip as I wasnā€™t feeling generous.

        • Barb says:

retail service charge, is that like the credit card charge?

I wonder if they do that because college kids “forget” to tip?
I have no idea, I’m just making shit up.

          • David says:

It’s just a way to extract more money from the few customers that they had. It’s bullshit. My beer was $7.50. I gave half a tip (10%) since they only provided half the service.

          • Yeah, I assume it’s like the nonsense fees hotels and rental car agencies add. Or, it’s a forced tip. Either way I wasn’t in the mood to add more.

  6. David says:

I nearly averted Wordle death today by making it in 6. TRIBE did me no favors. A great ITP IRL time was had last night. I have come a LONG way with regard to overcoming lifelong social anxiety. Attendees of that OK Cafe meet-up a few years back may recall I could barely pry my mouth open then other than to get food in. Over the decade or so that I’ve been reading it, the blog has been a big part of my recovery process, so thank you all, especially Paulie for taking the blog near the edge a few times, but then not going over the cliff and shutting it down. Kind of like getting Wordle in 6. šŸ˜‰ I greatly appreciate the support over the years, especially during my Lurker phase.

  7. Hate to say it, but I donā€™t feel that this US Womenā€™s World Cup team is good enough to win the tournament.

  8. Barb says:

went for a little walk around the neighborhood, was probably closer to 2.75 miles, but forgot to shut off my watch, so working (typing, moving my mouse etc) has my watch at over 3 miles. Gotta love that!

Getting an injection in my lower back disc or nerve(or something int he L5, S1 region) this afternoon. This is a temporary nerve block sort of thing, see if it makes a big difference. If it does, then the doctor has an idea to do something a little more permanent. We will see……

  9. Finally got around to trying to fix the flat on my mountain bike. No puncture found? Nothing apparent piercing the tire? Huh. What I did find was the ability to sweat profusely in the shade.
