I did not ride last night, instead I went to Sweetwater Brewing and had a couple, before driving over to Decatur to eat a shrimp Po Boy with fries, and then sit around with the cyclists drinking another beer and eating some boiled peanuts. Not my finest hours. I am trying to practice escapism from all of the stressful bullshit in my life these days to attempt to keep my sanity. I’m not sure it is working.

Thought about running away this morning and taking advantage of the cooler temperatures to go on a hike. I considered getting as far away as possible, perhaps going to Cloudland Canyon, but I slept in this morning instead.

I solved today’s Wordle in three attempts; my starter today was FLAME.

Wordle in 6 and I was glad to get it then! in 4 yesterday- sorry, Debbie.

Getting home was a bit of a challenge yesterday- i go through Grantville normally, but various roads were blocked. Turns out they had had a weather incident and there were trees and power lines down. When I turned into our neighborhood finally, I crossed over downed lines! There was a GPC truck there and no one was stopping traffic, so I assumed nothing was still hot.

A quiet evening waiting on our power to be restored, which finally hit about 7:30.

Then a call from the national help desk just before midnight. Apparently, Miami lost a 48 port card in Cash, which means cameras are down, which is never good. The were still processing as there are still lots of cameras, so the local guys will get to it this morning.

  2. Here’s a bit of levity.

I have been suffering watching the Women’s World Cup because Peacock only has the Spanish feed. I assumed this meant the games were being shown on NBC or USA, which would mean that I couldn’t stream them. After a little Googling I discovered the games are on Fox, so I downloaded the Fox app to watch. After about five minutes I was prompted to log into a TV provider, which I do not have, so I thought that I was thwarted again. Then I thought “Wait a minute, I can get Fox over the air via my antenna like it’s 1979!” And that is now I am watching the game today.

  3. I will never understand the popularity of “Sweet Caroline”. Jenka, I know it was your beloved BoSox who started this (questionable) tradition.

    • Jenka says:

Yeah, but it wasn’t for any real reason other than that the song is catchy and Neil Diamond gave a rollicking performance at Fenway about 20 years ago. Now they play it after every Sox win and it is cemented in Boston culture. I admit I have been guilty of the drunken “SO GOOD, SO GOOD, SO GOOD” on more than one occasion. 🙂

Paulie Paulie Paulie!! Eating instead of riding?? Riding would have done you good. You still have time to get outside somewhere and go for a hike. If I didn’t have to work I would join you. Emma and Mia go home today. Happy Hour Wednesday at work. GUTS run last night was very humid after the rains. Cooler temps but higher dew point for sure. Hung out later than usual in the parking lot afterwards. Good company. Wordle in 5 starting with PHASE. Connections was a hard one this morning but I got it. Hope everyone has an awesome day. That goes for you too Wee!

    • Thanks.

Drinking was twofold. First it was the first time my buddy Chip was up for leaving his house since having back surgery three weeks ago. Second, it looked liked storms would wash out the ride. It rained heavily, but briefly at Sweetwater.

  5. In from a quick WLF tour. Harvested a green bell pepper, two banana peppers, a long sweet pepper, a long purple eggplant, seven jalapeño peppers, and this season’s first okra pod.

Mr. Taco had a food truck at Variant brewing last night. I rode a rambley 8 miles to get there and had a couple tacos and 2 beers before riding the 5 miles home. The cooler temp was just a trick as the humidity was crazy and I was melting on the ride.

This weekend may hurt a bit, neighborhood poker tournament Friday, Hooligan pub crawl (you all are welcome if you want to come to Roswell) and neighborhood pool party Saturday, then Wheelhopper Sunday. I may need to dry out a bit after all this.

  7. Damn. Was gifted a wooden chip yesterday at Sweetwater for a free beer. I just realized what source of the unusual sound I heard while getting into my car last night; it was the chip hitting the pavement. Easy come, easy go.

Wordle in 5 starting with CIGAR. Should have been less, I was spacey this morning and wasted a couple of tries.

  9. Jenka says:

A quiet night. Kevin’s office all went to play (lose) trivia together up at Cumberland so I watched movies at home in my pajamas. I love trivia but I’m not driving all the fucking way up to Cumberland to play it.

The best part about orientation is the food. Our student life team provides a full-on hot breakfast every morning with two kinds of potatoes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and fruit. Also lunches, today will be Willy’s Mexicana Grill.

  10. If I am free tonight and in the mood to be semi sociable I may drive to Dick Lane Velodrome and take in the action.

    • Barb says:

do they have racing every night down there?

I just got back from my Periodontist cleaning – they are so good at finding more things for me to spend money on……… but at least it isn’t urgent.

  11. Just made a pepper “relish” using peppers from WLF. Is there a name for having the need to pee soon after dicing jalapeños? It seems to happen to me every time.

  12. Jenka says:

All of the food at lunch was gone. ALL OF IT. Good thing I have emergency cans of soup in my desk.

Wordle in 4 starting with STEAD.

WHY DO I NOT GO TO ALDI? Yes, I’m shouting … at myself. It’s sooooo much cheaper on things we buy frequently. It’s out of the way, but it’s beside PetsMart and I had to go there this morning. It’s definitely worth the trip on its own.

My back is sore and my chiropractor informed me that it was muscle soreness and I need to get to walking. Funny, Steve said the same thing. Dammit.

I finished Atypical list night. So sad it’s over, but it ended well.

I love small-town life. I went to the Cafe this morning for the first time since the accident. I got a hero’s welcome back and lots of concern and questions about how I was doing. A bit of catch-up on local gossip to go along with breakfast.

Off to take the puppies to the vet. I’m having a very productive day!

    • Well done you!

Good day to be out and about. I wish that I felt mentally and physically up for going outside and doing something. My back hurts slightly, and I am in a major funk.

    • steve says:

“Same thing Steve said.” AGAIN!! 🙂

    • Barb says:

YES DEBBIE – YOU NEED TO SHOP AT ALDI!!!
I like Aldi because its so much smaller of a store, I can find what I need & get the hell out. And the prices are better for the most part.
And I started Atypical – it is a cute show.

I need to get out for a walk too -Paulie- if you drive to Marietta, I’ll go walk with you. I did just cut the grass – damn it was getting long, all the damn rain we’ve gotten.

      • I’m afraid Marietta is not in my future tonight.

I need to cut the grass tomorrow. I was out there today ending the future of many tiny trees trying to grow. This year I have probably pulled 50-75 tiny trees which have sprouted from the many nuts buried by squirrels.
