For the first time yesterday I returned a book to Audible to reclaim my credit. It was not because I disliked to book nor its narrator, no, it’s because I already listened to it! The book in question is called “The Clementine Complex” by Bob Mortimer. I was thrilled to see a new release in what I assumed was a series as previously I bought and listened to “The Satsuma Complex” by the same author. Then, as I started to listen, Mortimer, who also narrates the book, explained that “satsumas” are called “clementines” in North America, so this was the North American version of the book. So sad.

Last night’s ride was good. We had a small group of riders, and although our average speed didn’t indicate it, we rode hard. After inexplicably seeing two opossum crossing streets as I drove home around 9:45pm, I returned home to eat a bowl of “chili” which was waiting for me in the crockpot (thanks again for the crockpot suggestion, Jenka). Due to my recipe free styling because of a lack of ingredients it wasn’t the best chili I have ever made, but it is quite tasty and I have enough for at least five more meals.

It’s East Atlanta Strut weekend and I will be in attendance in lieu of being at the hash campout in Hartwell. COVID destroyed the Strut I loved, no longer are the streets closed all day and people roam about, However, the parade is returning, as am I for the first time in a handful of years.

I didn’t declutter very well this week, so once again I have no included my list.

I solved today’s Wordle in five attempts; my starter today was ALERT.

  1. Connections failure today, I could only manage to find two groups. I correctly identified a third group, but failed to pick the correct four words for it.

Slow Mini Crossword, 1:15, in part because I lost at least fifteen seconds by not being able to select which clue to answer while the clock continued to tick.

  2. No Lowe’s run (yet?) this morning. I overslept yet again and just couldn’t motivate myself to get up and go. I need things for there to go with the cardboard I will be claiming from David/Lurker later today.

  3. Found out last night that the Taco Mac in Decatur has closed. I also found out that The Glenwood, an East Atlanta stalwart for twenty years, is closing at the end of the month.

And in doing that research I found an article on Eater called Where to Pick U-Pick Apples

Wordle in 4. and I only had the second letter in the right place through the first 3 guesses when I solved it. Connections fail. I had 2 and had no clue on the others.

The farrier came by yesterday and reported a truck for sale between Turin and Senoia, so that was our after work field trip. While nice, not for us and quite expensive for an ’07. We will head to Woodstock this afternoon for a test drive.

Work tomorrow installing new switches. Hopefully not a long day, as this is the first of at least 3 weekends of this work which we have to schedule in the next couple months.

Well bummer you are coming all the way up past us & neither of us are home.

Allan found out the CoA has messed up some of the pay (I know, shocking) so they all are having meetings with the payroll people to get it sorted out. He is owed some back pay – if its enough, maybe we will be shopping for a new truck before 2025. (and -note to self – pay some additional estimated taxes to the IRS.)

Wordle in 2 today, really 1.5 because I nailed the first 3 letters with my start word. Clean sweep on Connections, no misses. I can play that game without issue at midnight when it drops. Any later in the day my energy is different and the game pisses me off. I can’t
    explain. Mini in 47.

See you in a bit, Paulie, I’m glad the cardboard will be helpful.

In my opinion the crockpot is the greatest kitchen device ever invented!

Yep, I heard the other day about the Glenwood. When it opened as a gastropub (ugh) I was a regular for years. Then it got gross.

As for Taco Mac, I heard about Decatur and can only surmise that Va-Hi is next. My friend and former fellow TM regular texted me a pic of the patio where the roof had caved in and it was being held up with temporary support beams. WTF?!

    • I was a fan of The Glenwood in the early days, especially when it had a dedicated non-smoking room.

Taco Mac has gone downhill drastically in the past few years in my opinion which is sad to me.

      • Jenka says:

Yes, Taco Mac has been shit the last 5 years. That Eater article said it sold to a new owner in 2018, and clearly that was the catalyst. Sucks.

        • steve says:

We run hot and cold on TM. The one in Newnan has certainly had better crowds and the menu has certainly changed, and not for the better.

Service, even in its better days has never been great and it didn’t seem to matter which location you went to. I thought they randomly assigned servers to tables and not to areas, but I could be wrong.

In todays market, there is a lot more competition for your craft beer dollars.

I was tired this morning for some reason. Couldn’t get up. So nothing accomplished this morning before I head into work. Sucked at Trivia again. The host isn’t all that good and I think she messes up the questions!! Wordle in 4 starting with BINGO as I plan to play tonight with a friend at the VFW. No mistakes in Connections. I got the green and yellow categories pretty fast. Had to stare at it for a very long time before guessing correctly the purple. That blue category???? Still no clue but since they were the last 4 words……

    Yesterday’s question –
it takes forever for the parents to go to bed – the whole routine can take some time. Not that there’s that much to be done, but……. I’ve been pretty successful getting us all in bed by 10pm. We’ve been watching baseball (I know, who am I?) but following TV shows doesn’t go well. Dad says “I don’t understand” way too much. Sports are easier. Been watching the Cubs & White Sox (midwestern channels) and the games get over around 09:30. Did watch a WNBA game the other night (Atlanta Dream lost).

    • When I visit my mom the tv is always on, usually watching something like “Andy Griffith” or “Everybody Loves Raymond “.

      • steve says:

Debbie’s mom used to leave the TV on the “Western” channel. Bonanza, The Virginian, Have Gun Will Travel, old movies in B/W. Fun to see stars in some of their first performances.

    • Jenka says:

Wow. Does your brother do this every day? And your parents are getting a luxurious 13 hours of sleep every night! I am so damn jealous.

Kevin’s mom used to stay up until 4 am and then sleep until 4 pm. His dad would go to bed around 10:30 (whenever the sports was over, he watched ALL sports) and get up around 8:00.

      • Barb says:

it’s gotten worse over the past few months (I’ve noticed a big difference since I was here in June)

But yes – my brother is the primary caregiver. I have figured out my mom must have had a minor stroke, as her left side isn’t working 100%. Her left arm & hand are super weak, and she jsut does most everything with just her right hand. (thank God she’s right handed)

I haven’t forced the issue – trying to get them to get their own breakfast, lunch, etc. I might try this weekend when I can pay attention, & Connie will have free time when she’s here (she’s not working), she might work on that.

    • While I am still physically able, debatable I know, it is my goal to sleep no more than seven hours. 10pm-5am is ideal, but I would also be fine with 11pm-6am. Life is too short to sleep it away.

Got two categories in Connections and then whiffed on the rest.

In related news I am stuck at Curry Honda while my car gets its 10,000 mile maintenance. I am bored.

  10. Bob says:

Wordle took me 5 and I had to google it, only got 2 on connections. Just could not get the last 2 to make any sort of connection with the words.

My truck will be delivered back to my house this afternoon, I am liking this valet service. No idea what it costs normally because it was complimentary this time but it may be worth it.

  11. Back from raiding David’s garage of cardboard. Next on the list is removing all of the tape and stickers before laying it out in WLF as weed suppression for paths and future planting areas.

Expected to go to Lowe’s and then eat lunch afterwards but trunk was pretty full, and my cheapness shone through so I returned home to eat food from the refrigerator.

    • David says:

Thank you for relieving me of the cardboard! It’ll lighten my eventual load to CHARM. I’m still stuck on that work call from when you got here. The consulting meter is running though, so it’s all good. Just another day in the salt mine.

  12. Man am I feeling incredibly fat today, like pre-pandemic Paulie. Looks as if I will be skipping dinner.

  13. Just saw the dumbest headline for an article from Velo (News) — “Can Sepp Kuss Win the Tour de France?”. What the hell are they smoking? Kuss is not even the best rider on his team, and if not for the team management’s decision he wouldn’t have won this year’s Vuelta a España!

  14. Debbie says:

Wordle in 3, Connections fail after getting two categories.

I picked Tanner up from training this morning. I’m glad to have the little monster back at home. He keeps things hopping and is really entertaining.

We spent way too long at the credit union getting financing for the truck sorted and setting up online account access for the business account. If the Woodstock truck doesn’t pan out, our entire Friday afternoon will be a bust. And if I have to listen to the Sinatra Channel for the round trip, things may turn ugly! ????
