Prior to Christmas I mentioned that I bought bags of dried spaetzle at Aldi for 35¢/bag. Yesterday I made an interesting side dish using one half of a bag, Baked Cheezy German Spätzle Pasta with Caramelized Onion, which turned out pretty good. Admittedly I didn’t follow the receipt 100%, because I substituted white cheddar cheese for some of the Jarlsberg. If I ever make this recipe again I will also add more spice than the scant salt and pepper instructed.

The back still hurts; it seems to be recovering very slowly. I have tried multiple times to get a time slot for a massage with the woman I visited a month or so ago, but all of her time slots are filled until Sunday. I’m contemplating visiting another masseuse at Tiny House, just to see if I can eliminate the pain. Oh wait, I just booked a deep tissue massage for early tomorrow morning! Woot!

Thanks to Betsy’s need to pick up a library book on Saturday I was reminded that I wanted to renew my Fulton County library card. I did so the other day! Since I am a resident of Dekalb county inside the City of Atlanta, hence paying taxes to each, I also qualify to hold a library card in both Dekalb and Fulton counties.

Last night I also got around to watching the “Detectorists” special episode that I purchased for rental prior to the new year. It was pretty good, and I’m glad that I watched it, being a completionist and all.

Wordle: four, my starter was REACH
Connections: perfect, Green > Blue > Purple > Yellow

Wordle in 4, Connections with 1 error.

Since I wouldn’t be home until late, I had my workout here at the bank- 20 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes on the treadmill. I think that’s only the second time I’ve worked out here since the before times.

Hard not to have a Guinness at the pre-meeting meeting yesterday, and to pass on free whisky at the meeting, but I was strong and survived. And the entire meeting could have been an email but it is good to catch up with everyone. Rachel, the president’s wife and my old high school friend mourned the passing of our youth as we both turn 65 this year. I’ve decided it’s just a number. Just because you grow older doesn’t mean you have to grow up!

Wordle in 3 starting with Broth. I had two words I was going to use for my second guess. I should have used the other one. lol.
One mistake in Connections: green, yellow, blue, purple.

Fun sloppy run at the mountain last night. A lot of standing water and the little streams were flowing like rivers.

  3. Barb says:

We went to see The Boys in the Boat last night – $6 Tuesdays at the movie theatre.
It was more entertaining than I thought it would be – Annette was hell bent on seeing it.
I did enjoy it a lot – very good story.

I’ve gone 2 days without drinking, so maybe this week is a dry week – since last week was very wet. Who knows.

Well, I was wrong about the patching being done last week, the painters found a LOT to patch up yesterday and that’s all they did. Meanwhile all the furniture in the living room, dining room, bedroom, everything, is gone or covered. Hopefully today they get to painting.

We went to Wahoo for dinner last night and it was surprisingly busy! We had to wait 30 minutes for seats at the bar. If I’d known it would be 30 minutes I might’ve gotten a table, but once we were waiting with cocktail in hand, by golly, we were gonna wait!

  5. Jenka says:

Yeah, that Detectorists special is pretty good, I liked it. I love that show!

    That spaetzle dish sounds yummy!

Dry January going well so far, less calories in but now I need to spend more so I can drop some pounds. I’m really struggling with motivation in this cold grey weather.

Wordle in 4 starting with TIRED, how do you not have a vowel after a T. WTF! 🙂
Perfect connections and actually got purple second, that is usually the last color.

    Happy hump day!

Now I’m sitting at Honda. Had my oil changed yesterday. Most of it is now laying in my carport. I took the chance I had enough oil to get me here! Was very nervous sitting at the traffic lights! Life is hard!

  8. Barb says:

Wheelhopper sweatshirts are going to be printed on 1/19 – we could have made the 21st date after all. (that isn’t why Dean changed the date to 1/28, but I was happy so we’d havea few extra days)

  9. Just spent at least thirty minutes “creating” an account with “new” healthcare provider. The reason for the quotes is that I had forgotten that I was with this healthcare provider my first year at Ionic, and therefore already had an account. For whatever reason, no record of my login was in my password managers. Go figure.

    matching Paulie again today –
    but – I got Wordle in 3

  11. David says:

Wordle in 3, two misses on Connections.

Kudos, Paulie, for arranging a massage. There’s a chance our paths could cross tomorrow, I have an 11:15 with Laureen at the Reynoldstown location. My body is in need of some extra TLC. Laureen went to nursing school, but then decided not to be a nurse, but she has some mad massage skillz.

After being angsty about it for a week, I have moved forward with the next step in my monumental decision. I don’t know what lies ahead in that regard, but it’s a necessary step. I’m not overthinking it. I’ve been contemplating the quote from the circa 300 BC book The Art of War by Sun Tzu that says “no plan survives first contact with the enemy.”

I am grateful for the extraordinary support I’ve been getting from friends as of late. One of the two Scotts that I know invited me over for an impromptu dinner last night. I ate way better than I would have on my own, and we had a powerful and profound conversation. As my therapist observed this morning, my vulnerability is contagious.

Wordle in 5, perfect Connections yellow-green-purple-blue.

Catching up on the blog after my work “week.” On the subject of tossing expired can goods, the stuff I tossed mostly expired in the teens and some in the mid-teens! I had an expired can of pineapple burst a couple months ago and made a hella mess.

It was nice to get back to decluttering and organizing our space. For the most part, I’ve held the line on the previous projects rather than backsliding so I’m pumped about that. Our bedroom is the biggest area of procrastination for me. All this talk of painting is motivating though! Pulling the carpet and painting in the bedroom and attached sitting room would be transformative for sure.

Going to try a couple horses in NC on Friday. I’m packing a change of clothes, but hoping it can be a day trip. The farm is in Summerfield – north of Greensboro so it’s going to be a long day!

    • David says:

I’m sure you know this, but watch your speed in NC! And SC! Decades ago a cop had someone pulled over in I-40. I was young and dumb and figured, well, he’s busy, no need for me to slow down. That motherfucker had a Mustang. He finished up with that person, roared down the highway and popped me, and then roared off and popped the next person. He was totally shooting fish in a barrel.

    • After bringing stuff into the house, stuff from Florida, I am once again on the warpath (am I allowed to use that phrase still?) for declutterring.

    • Jenka says:

Okay, things that expired 10 years ago actually probably should get tossed. You are vindicated, Debbie! 🙂
