Other than a decent trip to the dentist followed by a Chinese buffet engorging, I have little to report today. As a penance I went for a 3.75 mile walk yesterday afternoon.

My hip hurts a lot today, riding will be “interesting”.

I have already started crossing off items on my long ToDo list for today.

Wordle: three, my starter was ACORN
Connections: two mistakes, X > X > Blue > Green > Purple > Yellow

Is scheduling a doctor’s appt. on your to do list? You might want to get some Kinesiology Tape infused with magnesium and menthol for this week-end. Might allow you to ride more comfortably. Heali makes some.

Wordle in 4 starting with MOLAR. No mistakes in Connections: Blue, Purple, Green, Yellow. I discovered in Strands that you can cross over…didn’t think that was allowed but apparently it is.

Had a nice walk with Barb and Kristina after work yesterday evening. Stopped by Red Eye’s place along the way and had a beer. I opted out of getting something to eat at Crapplebee’s.

I was planning on riding this morning but I decided I have way too much yard work to do and I need to get my camping gear and groceries together for this week-end.

    • I have been looking into doctor appointments. I’m struggling to determine if I should see a GP, and if not, what sort of specialist I should see.

I mowed the lawn yesterday, and today I will get on the roof to blow it clean and then blow the carport and driveway clean.

In the cleaned carport I will set up the tent that I will be taking to STU in order to ensure that I understand how to erect it, and that my new cot fits inside comfortably.

      I intend to ride tonight.

    • Barb says:

Sal – you are such a snob. Applebee’s was fine, it was close.
Sat at the bar, bartender was nice, wasn’t busy.
Beer was a decent price, we split a salad & some chicken wonton tacos.
Kristina used the Upside app & got a few bucks back.

      • Sally says:

If Barb is going to call me a snob, I’m taking my toys and going home.

      • David says:

I’m with Sally on this one, I’d go hungry before darkening the door of an Applebee’s. I was surprised by an Instagram video that showed that there are still 10 Bennigan’s in the US, and that they’re actually more successful overseas.

        • Barb says:

I guess I’ve never had that bad of an experience at Applebee’s.
It isn’t a place I’d go often, but it was ok in a pinch.

Bennigans – hadn’t thought of that place in forever.
We talked about TGI Fridays & Chili’s – but couldn’t think of Bennigans.

          • Jenka says:

Same, Barb. Applebee’s is fine in a pinch, at least you know what you’re getting. All of those TGI McAppleChilis do the trick if necessary.

          • David says:

I have an issue with the scripted and formulaic nature of most restaurant chains. I get why they do that, I just prefer authenticity when I can.

          • Barb says:

the deal we didn’t take advantage of last night was any burger $7.99. (with fries).
Seemed like an excellent deal – a guy at the bar had it – looked like a tasty burger.

They put calories on the menu – I hate that -that’s how we ended up with different food.

          • David says:

Yeah, that’s a good deal. I don’t think you can get a Five Guys burger for that price any more. Bummer about them sharing the calories, that definitely alters my decision making as well when it’s available.

          • I eat at Waffle House a lot less now that they put the calories on their menus.

Yesterday I discovered that the Beltline is paved from Piedmont Park to Armour Drive. It feels surreal to have that much contiguous paved bike path in close proximity to my house. They’re pretty far along on paving the Beltline inside the park as well. Maybe I will get to ride a sanctioned 22 mile loop in my lifetime.

Fellini’s dinner once again because my friends live a stone’s throw from there. We are going to convene in Grant Park next time though at my request.

Wordle in almost 2, I had 4 correct letters and tapped the final one in 3. Two misses on Connections. Strands gave me grief today but I eschewed all hints.

    • I am aware that the Piedmont->Armor section exists, but the fact that it essentially dead ends at Armor is a dealbreaker.

My walk yesterday took me down Ormewood and United avenues, where I looked at the new concrete being poured for the overpasses on the Southside beltline.

      • David says:

I’m excited about the extension, it’ll add some length and variety to my quick out-and-back weekday morning rides that I’m going to resume. My previous route was from my house, through Cabbagetown, up the Beltline to Monroe/10th, and then up 10th to Piedmont Ave and then back.

    • Barb says:

I haven’t seen this new paved section yet – some day…….

      • David says:

Barb, it’ll make for an easy in-town ride with lots of of food choices if you ever want to get it on the calendar. This particular route wouldn’t involve much street riding. I didn’t measure it yesterday, but it feels like maybe 14 to 16 miles round trip from my house.

        • Barb says:

sounds great – I love exploring in town (when it isn’t super trafficy)

          • David says:

Wheels up at 8:00 AM on Saturdays and Sundays is the time to do it. I can take you all kinds of places in town without freaking you out.

  3. Oh yeah, last night I also watched a documentary from 2019 called “Beers of Joy”, which is mostly about people trying to obtain the highest rank of beer snobbery by becoming a Master Cicerone.

(I had never heard of it either)

    • David says:

My friend Craig is a national sales rep for New Belgium and has been working on that designation.

      • Oh? Cool. From what I saw it’s rather difficult. At the time of the film’s creation there were only thirteen Master Cicerones, but that number has grown by about 50% since.

The movie also introduced me to Sugar Creek Brewing in Charlotte, a brewery I should visit. Their co-owner failed the exam in the film, but apparently succeeded in 2020.

        • David says:

Yeah, attaining that designation is not for the faint of heart. They clearly want to keep the riff-raff out. 😉

    Wordle in 3

Good morning from 26A on the way to Newark. Pre check was a normal CF with onlt 2 of 3 lines active and one of the terminals having an issue.

Yesterday, i finally got the “dog yard” mowed. I will have one of them for dinner if they keep digging holes! There were other chores only a horse farm has to do like replacing fly traps.

I think i packed everything, unlike the eclipse trip, when i forgot my drugs, some clothes… dont know what i was thinking.

  5. Ugh, I know that I have put on a lot of weight again, without even needing to weigh in on Tuesdays, but I never wanted my “fat” pants to be snug again. They are now. FUUUUUUUUUCK

  6. Bob says:

After work yesterday I went to the camper to make sure I have all the utensils, plates, etc. I need for the weekend and discovered ANTS! So many ants! Little fuckers must have been hiding the other day as I didn’t see any when I was in there before. Eradication is in progress.
Hoping to get in a ride tonight but I still need to get to the store for food and beer for the weekend.

    • Oh no!

I’m making my food plan for STU. Though rarely vegetarian now, I rarely seem to get in on the reindeer games because I have no Facebook presence. That’s fine by me, I’m used to being self-sufficient.

      • Barb says:

Don’t feel too left out Paulie – we have made almost zero plans for food this year.
I have no idea what we are bringing yet.

Bob – we’ve had those ant problems in the past – sooooo muchhhh funnnn. One time we were camping with Mango & Kat many, many years ago – Kat & I went & bought a cordless vacuum & vacuumed up ants forever it seemed.

      • Bob says:

Don’t feel left out, like Barb said not a lot of food plans.
I will have my blackstone if you need a grill and I will be cooking breakfast on Sunday again.
That is the extent of any plan.

  7. Jenka says:

You all should follow one of the Beltline feeds on the social mediaz, they’ve been posting pics of the paving for 2-3 months. There’s also an Instagram account called “The Beltline Hates You” (or something like that) which is pretty funny.

    • David says:

The goddamn Beltine is growing so grindingly slow that I maintain a “I’ll believe it when I see it” stance. I think I follow that Beltline Hates You account, or at least I see it from time to time. I used to actively follow the Beltline’s progress online but it all felt like smoke and mirrors. I want to get over to the Westside soon, I know they’ve been doing some work over there. I’m also a bit baffled why they’re building a Spaghetti Junction style overpass over Ormewood Avenue instead of just using the goddamn bridge that is there.

I will say that the Silver Comet seems to be within weeks of getting extended to the Atlanta city limits. That contracter has opened up a can of whoop-ass. At some point that extension is supposed to tie into the Beltline. I’m not holding my breath.

      • Jenka says:

Hunh, I guess it is all perspective. It feels to me like the Beltline is going incredibly fast. Every year they are opening up a new section. Obtaining the property, getting the funding, and then contracting the work takes time, but they seem to be plugging away at it!

        • David says:

They started working on in it in 2005, so that’s what, 19 years that I’ve been following those fuckers? 😉 I do agree, they have suddenly picked up the pace recently. It’s about goddamn time, the property values soar around each completed section, which means more tax revenue.

  8. Barb says:

Booked a Wheelhopper camping weekend for October 11-13 yesterday –

Indian Springs State Park down near Jackson, GA (might be officially Flovilla)
Found out the ReserveAmerica website has an app (RA Camping). It has a list of all the times we’ve camped at the state parks. We haven’t camped in those very many times – might need to work on changing that.

Nice walkabout with Kristina & Sal – got the scoop on the Black Sheep weekend up at Table Rock – there’s so much drama with Black Sheep these days.

And – Applebee’s was just fine for some late dinner – and – it was on Upside so Kristina got a few bucks back. She needs to remember to use Upside for gas.
Next outing might be to Mango’s Carribean on Franklin Gateway – good percentage back!

    • David says:

Thanks for posting this, Barb, I just booked my camping spot for Cades Cove in August. Next I need to figure out my hotel for Asheville for the Cake concert.

    • I tried using the app a few years ago, and decided to just use the website.

Kinda glad to not be part of the BS drama these days.

  9. Been a busy, busy morning.

Done clearing roof and driveway with leaf blower.
Set up tent, realized I don’t need to cut new tarp, and sprayed solar protection onto rain fly.

Salad with chicken fingers for lunch has been eaten.

About to fold up tent and start to gather camping gear for this weekend.

Wordle in 4 starting with PILOT. Fail in Connections, but I got purple before I went down in flames.

Turning in my notice at the vet clinic this week. It’s a such a little cesspool of toxicity. Life is too short to marinate in that 3 days a week. I’m looking into freelance editing and writing gigs.

  11. Barb says:

Allan is done power washing the deck, and the house (or maybe mainly windows – he scared the hell out of me a little earlier with the window right by my desk)

  12. Barb says:

now I’m trying to figure out what we should bring for food this weekend.

    • I am trying to figure out my plan as well.

I have my beer situation sorted, and will bring some of the sort of food I prepare as dinner when camping. I assume breakfast Friday and Saturday will be at the first aid station, and lunches depend on the mileage I am riding. Decisions, decisions…

      • Barb says:

we are making cheesesteak sandwiches 1 night – probably Thursday – will have some extra I’m sure.
Lunch Saturday is beer & wings at Rutledge wings.
I’m thinking brats &/or burgers Friday or Saturday night – maybe a food truck on the other.

Breakfast is always PeanutButter & jelly & bananas & fruit or whatever at stop#1. We will probably bring some cereal – just in case.

        • You are all set!

I think I am as well, unless I decide I want to put stuff on a grill/griddle.

Now, make the pain in my hip go away… I still find it hard to believe how my health situation changed five weeks ago.

  13. Been seeing a hornet flying around my carport recently. While cleaning out my car I accidentally closed the door with it inside. Fortunately I was able to open all of the doors and coax it to leave the car.
