My Saturday farmer cosplay on Saturday was fun. Four hours of manual labor, the last three of which in sunshine. At the farm I helped plant a fig tree and did a ton of weeding. I followed my volunteering with lunch and beers at Ideal Sports Bar. I’d eaten a late and large breakfast, but that didn’t stop me from murdering a turkey club and fries, and, a free piece of strawberry shortcake supplied by one of the bar regulars.

I had three options for Saturday night:
– Night Two of Barb’s birthday weekend
– The Atlanta United game
– Staying home alone and crashing

I chose the third since I was so tired.

Back to working in Wee Little Farm I found that critters have discovered the deliciousness of ripe figs. Rats! Yesterday I also ran the lawnmower over the front lawn. It wasn’t until yesterday afternoon as I went to take a shower that I had a realization. My lower back was bothering me, and I wondered if I had an allergic reaction to something I was around yesterday. Then I looked at the shape of the affected skin, and came to the conclusion that my shirt must have constantly ridden up my back as I bent over to weed and the allergy was actually sunburn! D’Oh!

It took me five guesses for yesterday’s Wordle solution, BLANK, because I swore that BLANK had already been used! I really thought that I’d made a joke to Barb that both of her last names have been Wordle solutions.

Wordle: six, my starter was MOTEL

  1. I still don’t know where I will be tomorrow for my sixtieth birthday. The one place I’m pretty sure I won’t be is at the ITP Estate, because I want to be somewhere else.

I’ll be perusing AirBnB this morning.

      Where will you be?

You’ll be on the First Day of the rest of your life.
      Make it count.

“All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did.” – T. E. Lawrence

      Happy birthday ITP.

  2. One of the worst things I could have done was mention the “utilize v use” issue, because now I can’t stop hearing “utilize” instead of “use”.

See Also: the use of “there’s” when there are multiple items so the person should use “there are” instead.

Wordle in 6 (wipes sweat from brow). I swear we discussed in this space BLANK on a recent day, but decided to try BLAND first. Coulda been 3, but no.

A great time was had Saturday. Saw many “old timers” and lots of old friends. I never thought about the SIZE of the recumbent Bob dropped off, the seat being a significant part, but I managed to squeeze it into the Mazda with both wheels off.

Sunday was 26 miles. Stopped and chatted with a rider who was new to the area and looking for someone to ride with. We have exchanged contact info, so we shall see.

    Happy Monday!

    • I think the NYT needs to get rid of whatever summer intern has been picking the solutions lately. Hahaha

Good on you for getting out for a ride. Hank was passing through town yesterday on his way toward CO, so he and I lifted some pints in EAV.

I also took the ‘bent out for a quick test ride and didn’t kill myself. I was overgeared when I turned around to go up the driveway and had to kick bike to shift into something lower. No crashes, though a couple real wide turns…

    • Bob says:

Glad you were able to get the bike home Steve. She is a big’un but a comfortable ride once you get used to it. Hope you have many happy miles on it!

Good times at the Grove estate on Friday, it was nice catching up with people I don’t see very often.
Good luck finding a dry area to ride tomorrow, forecast doesn’t look promising but there is always the silver comet. If you have to ride in the rain at least there will be no cars.
Saturday did a Chattahoochee paddle with some hooligans. It has been way too long since I had done that, need to do it more often this summer.
Sunday was a Onewheel bar crawl day, wheeled around Alpharetta/Milton for about 15 miles stopping for beers along the way. Good times were had.
Today is new bike day! It is currently out for delivery, so I’m expecting a pop up afternoon shower so I can’t ride it. We will see! 🙂

    • Thanks. Trying to pull the trigger on a trip as I type this. For some reason I’m having a hard time deciding, and believing that this is the right thing to do. Go figure.

I’ve never been a paddler, see also: mountain biker. I’m sure it’s fun, paddling not mountain biking, but since I seem to wind up doing everything alone the logistics are nearly impossible to pull off.

  5. You know what sucks? Wanting to eat real southern barbecue early in the week – most shacks don’t open until Wednesday at earliest.

  6. Barb says:

    We survived!!!
Paulie – the offer still stands to do something with you tomorrow night if you are anywhere in the vicinity.
You can stay in the camper? 🙂

Good to see so many people, but I feel like I didn’t get to talk to most every much.
Allan has everything all cleaned up & put away way too quickly for anyone to really help (of course)

Went to a friend’s house in Mableton to their pool yesterday – ate leftovers. That was nice to just chill.

    • Steve says:

Your party, your way. I assure you, we amused ourselves. We caught up with people we don’t see very often as well. John/Donna, Dave and Catherine (Catherine got Dave riding and they’re going to do a Trek tour in Sonoma!). Kat and I talked FRB and if she’s on the “fully remote list” yet. If she doesn’t make that, she has to say farewell to the Fed. That would be bad. Hopefully her management has some sense.

    • Thanks. If I can convince myself to go somewhere it will be my destination for tomorrow’s activities.

Car is packed, but I just have this notion that I shouldn’t go, even though it will only be for a couple of days.

  7. Hello from Easley , SC. Destination Asheville. The bike is on the M6, with the intention of riding tomorrow. May eat a fancy pants dinner, or, go to the Asheville Tourists game tomorrow night.

    • Bob says:

Hell yeah, you were able to kick your own butt out the door!
Have fun in Asheville and have a beer for me at Wedge brewing!

    • Barb says:

sounds good – have fun in Asheville.

Was talking to Kat Saturday night about getting a fall camping trip on the books up that way, somewhere between Brevard & Asheville. We will see if we can make it happen. Maybe Lake Powhatan – they even have a glamping loop.

Steve – we need to get something camping wise set up with you guys too – and of course if we figure out something in NC – you could join us.

  8. I drove into some heavy rain.

  9. Arrived at AirBnB and while parallel parking car managed to hook bike handlebar on a fence. Very low speed incident, so I tested out front brake and gears and everything appears to have survived. It would have sucked to drive the bike all this way only to have it become unrideable due to my stupidity.
