I haven’t watch the TdF in about a week, and have no plans to watch any of the remaining stages.
Happy #60 ITP-Reader David, née Lurker.
Wordle: three, my starter was GRAPE (I wanted to use GUIDE, or GRIPE, but both of those are off the board… as is BOARD)
Wordle in 4. I was really pleased, then I saw your 3. Well played.
Still a chance of going back to Miami to help, but not just yet. Maybe the week of the 4th, which is annoying as I was planning on coming out to Moonlight for Sani’s 80th birthday celebration. We shall see.
Managed 18 last night. Felt good and would have gone farther, but I was running out of daylight as I only started at 6:30. With most of my road choices running E/W, I’m always aware of the setting sun and not making myself invisible.
3 HC climbs today! At least the weather is good.

My second guess did a lot of heavy lifting.
Meshtastic range?
Well, “it depends”.
Meshtastic is 915 Mhz, so line of sight. Antenna gain, power and antenna height, height, and height are key factors. Inexpensive 2 Watt nodes are available.
For example, a node high up in the barn, one in your house, one on the person(s) roaming about, a node or two at nearby neighbors, etc. The more nodes, the more better.
Net/net: Grid down, no cell service, no other options, text only (no license, no fees).

Interesting. I only speak a little radio and know when I’m overwhelmed, but I have people to guide me in a pinch. You just got added to the list!
I’ve been a Ham for over 30 years, so yeah, I’ve picked up a few things.

Listening to a seed saving podcast. In this episode the guest is the guy who wrote the book about okra that I am currently reading. He lives in Asheville, and apparently attended the same conference that I did in March. Wish I had known this so I could have met him.
speaking of seeds – the brewer/distiller we met in Maine said that apple seeds don’t grow the same trees. So, if you planted a Granny Smith seed, the tree that grows from it won’t produce Granny Smith apples. You have to graft from a current tree to the new tree to get the same apples. I don’t know if its true, but it was very interesting the way he was telling us about it.
100% accurate for apples
such a weird thing………. but – I learned something new
do we know they never repeat words ?
(Wordle: three, my starter was GRAPE (I wanted to use GUIDE, or GRIPE, but both of those are off the board… as is BOARD)
I don’t think they do as of yet… at least not that I’m aware of. Perhaps that explains some of the words last week I had to look up!!
1496 days, 1498 unique words. How? When the NYT took over they replaces FETUS and HARRY with other solutions.
Just looked it up, FETUS was replaced with SHINE, and HARRY was replaced with STOVE.
wordle in 3 – I tied Paulie!!!
Happy birthday to David!!!
We ate leftover ribs last night, and some corn on the cob – it wasn’t as good as the Iowa corn I have earlier this month.
I saw a story on the news about corn sweat making it more humid – in all my years growing up in Iowa – I never heard that before.
Funny I’d never heard of that term either, until yesterday, when I listened to a podcast put out by the Illinois Agriculture Extension on my drive home.
Thanks Barb and Paulie for the birthday shout-outs! I am grateful to have not gotten taken down in my 50s. You never can tell. Lord knows I did try to break my neck on my first and last mountain biking attempt.
I learned about corn sweat from my brother who lives in Indiana for now, but is working on selling his house and transfering to Atlanta.
Wordle in 4, I was OK with that.
Happy sixtieth birthday, David!
Thanks, Jenka!
A very happy 60th!
Thank you, Steve! It was fun to see you and Debbie IRL at Barb’s on Saturday night.
There’s no 60 mile bike ride in the cards for me today. I rode my bike a couple of miles yesterday to retrieve my car from Midtown Tire, and my left knee was screaming at me. I think it’s because I logged too many miles walking in worn-out shoes in Denver earlier this month. I got over myself in Denver and bought new shoes at the flagship REI store, which had to have been conceived in a fever dream.
I’m sure it’s quite the place!
Happy 60th David!!
We went to a nice restaurant for dinner last night with one of our dear friends and his son, the son is our financial advisor. Then back to the hotel bar where everyone from the conference were congregated and much fun was had. I went to bed much later than I usually do.
Today Kevin’s gone off to the lunch his firm hosts every year. No clue what’s on the calendar for tonight.
