Tuesday Tidbits

I spent the evening reading about CSS and watching TV. Exciting life I lead, no?

Take Your Surveys And Questionnaires And Shove ‘Em
The latest annoying trend sweeping the web seems to be the floating survey. You may have seen one of these come sweeping across some web page asking you to take a short survey for some token of appreciation in return. All I ask is to read a webpage without being annoyed or having to kill some audio quickly so that everyone around me doesn’t stare. Can we please think of the user for once when designing websites?

While I Am Asking For The Impossible, Part 1
I would like for the Government to stop installing red-light cameras. The latest installations went up in Sandy Springs near the hospitals yesterday.

Let me explain that I am neither paranoid, nor do I subscribe to the belief that “If I do nothing wrong I have nothing to worry about.” My greatest fear is being rear-ended by some ass who is going to run the red light while I stop at it in order to make sure that I don’t receive another expensive traffic ticket.

It’s Tuesday, My Arm Is Itching –> Poison Ivy Again?
Holy shit I hope not. However, if history is any indication of my future expect me to complain about the invasion of poison ivy onto my skin once again. Maybe I’ll give up hashing again. Seriously, the discomfort brought about by poison ivy is not surpassed by the pleasure a few hours of hashing brings.

The Queen Is Red, Long Live The Queen
On my drive in this morning I saw that the Queen building was illuminated red (pink?) instead of its normal white. Does anyone know the reason for this? I attempted to capture the image with my camera but the light was so low that I needed my tripod which I didn’t have with me. My photography has frustrated me to no end recently. [this just in, I realized that I forgot to alter my ISO this morning. No wonder why I didn’t get a decent shot!]

So instead of a red queen building you’ll get a llovely close-up of my chin bearing the result of four days sans shaving…

Four Days Growth

East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads Take It On The Chin Again
The Double-Ds are now at two wins and two losses. It was another lackluster week for my players, including my Seattle defense who managed to lose three points somehow.

I wonder if I should steer my attention toward Fantasy League Hockey…

CD Pick Of The Week
For weeks I bitched about no good releases. This week the music industry strikes back with rage. Metacritic lists seventeen cds dropping today.

Within this list are some household names in the music business

  • Beck
  • Lindsay Buckingham (he is still alive?)
  • George Strait (he is still alive too?)
  • Robyn Hitchcock

as well as some of today’s brightest startup bands

  • The Decemberists
  • The Killers
  • Pernice Brothers
  • Jet
  • The Hold Steady

I’ve given a listen to some of these releases Beck, Jet, and The Killers via AOL’s music service and The Hold Steady (via Vagrant Records), all of which have their pluses and minus.

Therefore the only fair way to pick a ‘CD Pick of the Week’ is to choose the release for the band who I will see first in concert. Congratulations go out to The Hold Steady who I will be seeing play at The EARL tomorrow night.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – meh
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Tilly And The Wall — “Bad Education”
Website Of The Day – If you haven’t been reading the Stereogum blog to get your music information they you have been missing out.
Exercise (b)Log – none, my hammies are tight and my knee was sore so I decided to give them a rest. Which is to say I could have done some sort of upper-body exercise, but failed to do so.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

October is Breast Cancer Awarness Month, maybe that has something to do with it? Delta painted one of their planes pink for the months also.

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

That makes sense. I wonder if they will do the same thing for the King during Testicular Cancer Awareness Month. 😉

  3. kathleen says:

yesyes— it’s for breast cancer awareness. lots of fancy buildings are doing it for the entire month of october.
