Christmas Comes Early For Paulie

No, I haven’t met Ms. Right (not even Ms. Right-Now). Instead it was a Wonderful Weekend of Football for me.

On Saturday
The Florida Gators won the SEC Championship
The USC Trojans broke against the UCLA Bruins

Then on Sunday
The New York Jets walloped the Green Bay Packers
The Florida Gators were selected to play in the BCS Championship game

Pretty decent football week if I do say so myself…

Same Arena, Very Different Crowd
Thanks to my BlackJack phone I was able to check email during a break in the Aperture training course I was taking on Friday. I found out that my friend Mike had an extra ticket to the Hawks game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Normally I don’t care to go to Hawks games but the chance to see LeBron James and to hang out with a friend overruled my original plan to see Gringo Star (formerly A Fir Ju Well) alone at The EARL.

I’ve now been to two Thrashers games and one Hawks game this season and am here to say that the crowd couldn’t have been much more different; it was like night and day. Also in attendance that night were Usher, Emmanuel Lewis, former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young, and former baseball player Cecil Fielder (kudos to whoever recognized him).

I Belong In The Zoo
Saturday was a long day…

I started the day buying a large Ho Ho Mocha from the Caribou Coffee in the Edgewood Retail District and then walked up to Little 5 Points to snap some photos. While in L5P I ran into Dean, the guy who taught the photography classes I took at Showcase earlier in the year. Dean was taking his Composition class out for a field trip that day. It was cool to see him, especially since I too was out shooting photos, and it was also nice that he remembered my name (side note: I never think that people will remember me — it’s one of my low self-confidence issues — and I am always appreciative when they do).

After getting back to my car I headed to 97 Estoria to meet up with the Atlanta Flickrites for lunch before we headed down to Zoo Atlanta. I hate to admit this, but I have lived in Atlanta for almost twelve years, nearly eight of which have been no more than three miles from the zoo, and had never been.

I was not overly impressed with our zoo. It may have been because I was tired, it may have been because the animals seemed equally enthused. I took a bunch of pictures in my short time walking around the zoo for proof that I have been. However, since I’ve now seen many of the pictures that my fellow Flickrites have taken I will have to make a return visit at some time.

Picture Me Taking A Picture Of You

Half Marathon Training, All Systems Go!
I ran/walk yesterday for the first time in many days. I considered it to be a prelube for the half marathon training schedule that I will be following for the next twelve-plus weeks. In an effort to make sure that I follow the schedule I will post the amount of exercise I was supposed to do along with a report of what I have done. Feel free to call me out if I slack — my waistline will thank you.

Duuude, Where’s My Clue?
Holy crap did I laugh hard as Rob and Kimberly got pelted with tomatoes! Every time Kimberly got hit in the head and said “ouch” I busted out laughing. Rob is such a winner, I don’t know how she would survive if they ever split up. I was only sad that they were able to find the clue so quickly because I wanted to laugh more.

Bye bye blondes…. While I thought that they’d certainly outlast Bama there gameplay wasn’t good enough. There was no way that they could have overcome a thirty-minute penalty on this leg. That being said, the only reason they were in that predicament is because the fucked themselves over on last week’s episode by driving past the place to do the olive pressing.

To be honest, I really don’t want to see any of the remaining teams win. If I was forced to pick one of the three teams I would like to see win it would be the models. I doubt that I will even watch the final show now.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – down in the dumps, even with all of the positive events
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Hold Steady — “Chips Ahoy!”
Website Of The Day – Need to send really large files to someone? Try using a service like YouSendIt or Pando to do the job.
Training Target – nothing
Exercise (b)Log – running (5 min) / walking (1 min), 5 miles

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

    GO GATORS!!!

Has it really been 10 years since the last national championship? I guess I’m always still a little shocked when we have a great season. I’m still recovering from the 44-0 loss to Georgia in 1982 🙂

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yeah, it’s hard to believe ten years have passed. Thankfully Michigan didn’t get a rematch, no team should be able to win a National Championship via a rematch. 🙂 (yes people, I am well aware that’s how the Gators did it).

Beth, I still shudder when I think of the 31-31 tie in Tallahassee in 1994.

  3. Amity says:

Rob crying at the end and talking about what a wonderful woman Kim is was the craziest! Bye-bye blondies. You won’t be missed. I would have laughed if the models would have gone ahead and let the blondes go ahead of them to the mat, only to still be taken out by the 30-minute deficit. I have to pull for Bama so a female team could win, although I think there’s no chance in hell.

    Go Gators!! 🙂

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I will miss Dustin, not Kandice. I think that if the blondes came in first that would have nullified the 30-minute penalty.

I can’t pull for Bama. I like Lyn (the heavier-set one), but absolutely cannot stand Karlyn and her attitude.

  5. Barb says:

I have a great new twist idea – bring all the teams back for the final leg!!!! That way the 3 annoying teams that I don’t want to win, might not win……..
I know, I’m in a dream world, but I don’t like any of the teams. But, if I have to pick a team to win, I’d actually like Bama to win, I think they could use the money the most. Maybe next season they can find some better personalities.

  6. Amity says:

Yes, coming in 1st would have nulified the penalty, but not coming in 3rd (in front of the models).

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Oops Amity I was thinking about when they were discussing the idea at the ticket agent’s counter in the airport.
