Twelve Days: Day Four

For the next twelve days I will give you the item for that day from the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas” along with the gift I would like to receive. You will see quickly that mine may not always be material, but are just as strange…

Song: Four Calling Birds
Paulie: I saw an ad from a Japanese company that sells a USB key which has a dog that appears to be humping your computer when plugged in. I like it, I want it!

‘Tis The Season For Goofing
I’m not a fan of Scrubs, but I am a huge fan of Peanuts. The Scrubs kids have reworked the Christmas classic “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown” providing all new dialog. I suggest you watch the video when you get 10:20 to spare; it’s very clever.

Why? Because It Makes Me Smile
Yesterday I saw someone’s picture of a Praying Mantis on Flickr. It made me think of the term “Gaming Mantis”, and a picture of a Praying Mantis holding a console gaming controller. What else could I do but go register www.GamingMantis.com. There is nothing there now, but there may be in the future. Of course I’ll let you know here if anything happens.

Why? Because It Makes Me Angry
On Monday I am taking the ISP leap to Earthlink or BellSouth because my internet connection at home was dead again this morning. I’d make the move today but I am bothered by the thought that my connection might be down over the weekend. I needs my internets — it’s my drug of choice.

Merry Christmas to me!

Poverty Stricken
In my weekly Survivor pool I chose Ozzy. I really didn’t have much choice because my competition took Adam and Poverty ahead of me. I was hoping that Ozzy would finally lose a challenge and thus be the main target for removal. Oh well, I guess I was wrong yet again. I had a good laugh when in Poverty’s farewell speech she said that she enjoyed being out there an now knows that she can survive in any situation. Is this the same girl who couldn’t, or perhaps didn’t, gut a fish for the first twenty-eight days?

If you haven’t been paying attention the Grand Finale of Survivor Cook: Island will be shown this Sunday. It seems a bit soon to me since there are still five players remaining. I always thought that the finale occurred when they got down to the final three. And if either Sundra or Becky wins it all I will be rather disappointed. They could have easily edited this season and I never would have known that they were on the show.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – something is wrong
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing The Hold Steady — “Chips Ahoy!”
Website Of The Day – Planning that large family Christmas dinner but not sure how you are going to seat everyone? Try going to SimplySeating your online buddy for planning seating arrangements. Seems like overkill to me, but I am sure that someone will find it useful.
Exercise (b)Log – none

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

There was some spoiler statement at the end about one player leaving the game. Also, I don’t think Ozzy was a bad pick for your pool. I think had he NOT won immunity he WOULD have been voted out. Oh the drama over stupid Jonathan’s hat! And I was laughing at Parvati’s statement about how she could have taken it further in the hot tub if she wanted, but that it really wouldn’t have advanced her in the game. Also loved that Yul was not playing to her silly flirtation. I guess Yul’s not a drinker, because he didn’t seem to be partaking in the champagne. Although, it’s probably smart to keep your wits about you in that game, even with alcoholic temptation. I’m wondering if there will be a Yul/Becky marriage proposal a la Rob and Amber. 🙂

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Oh, I didn’t see that spoiler. Huh, that’s interesting…

I figured Ozzy was my only option at that point.

I forgot to mention the bit about Jonathan’s hat. It appeared that it was just sitting there when the jury was brought in. Couldn’t it have just been delivered by an anonymous delivery person? Why did Probst bring up up that Yul brought it?

I don’t see Yul as a drinker. He seems to uptight (perhaps too strong a word) to let loose and drink. Yul and Becky? Have I been missing the sparks between them? Certainly CBS would be showing it all like they did for Adam/CandyAss.

  3. Gentri says:

the teaser also seemed to show Ozzy seemingly taking a spill on a challenge, maybe that’s who exits? If he goes, I want Yul to win, although I think a jury majority would vote against him for his “Godfather” tactics and vote for anyone else to win…

Maybe eating all that raw food on Exile Island causes an exit?

    Bueller?

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I don’t think that Yul would have backlash especially if he is up against Sundra or Becky. I feel he’s played an incredibly honest and open game. He has done at least one or two things, like telling everyone that he had the Immunity Idol, that I would have never done.

You may be onto something with the raw food. I nearly lost it when I saw Adam eating.

  5. Barb says:

I’m going to the Thrashers game tonight – if you are going again, let me know, we could have a beer at CNN before hand.

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Will do when I know ahead of time. The game the other night was a last minute, hey I’ve got an extra ticket affair.

  7. Andrew says:

It’s probably not as cheap as Bellsouth or Mindspring, but I’ve been really happy with Speedfactory over the past few years. I have a fixed IP address, full access to my dsl modem, and they don’t block any ports or services. As as I can tell, they also don’t do much if any at all packet shaping or bandwidth limiting. A fixed IP address is great for VNC’ing back into a machine, or running a web server for personal use.

  8. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Thanks Andrew,

I am currently with SnappyDSL out of Miami. I chose them when Telocity/DirecTV went belly up years back because their price was fair and I could get a static IP address. However I haven’t used this feature since they switched me to PPPoE and their techs didn’t know how to configure a Linux box to act as a firewall. Blocked ports and bandwidth limiting scare me. I don’t do a whole lot of p2p or bitorrent, but when I do I want it to work.

  9. Andrew says:

Telocity/DirecTV going belly up is the same reason I why I’m currently with Speedfactory.

  10. Smoove D says:

10:20 to spare, huh? Should I watch the clip at 4:20, or what?

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Sorry Smoove, it’s not that far out there, but the new dialog puts a neat spin on the Peanuts classic.
