I Want A Do-Over

Damn me! Damn me!! Damn me!!! My apologies for not posting anything yesterday. Keep reading and it will become obvious why I did not.

Happy Fucking Birthday, ‘merica!
I know better, but somehow I just couldn’t keep myself in line yesterday.

I started the day exactly as planned. I woke up early and was out the door by 5:30am. After finally figuring out where I wanted to park I grabbed my camera gear and started walking down Peachtree to the finish line of yesterday’s Peachtree Road Race. This was the year that I avoided doing the hash’s pub crawl — sobriety was the goal.

After watching the wheelchair racers speed by I started my walk back to my car, parked strategically close to where the final beer stop for the pub crawl was to happen — one or two beers would be okay.

After watching the race winners speed by, later followed by those for whom “speed by” would be a generous assessment, the Black Sheep beer stop opened. It was at that time beer drinking started and race photography ended.

Had I ended the morning’s escapades then today’s post would have a completely different flavor. No, instead I thought that it would be a good idea to follow the pub crawl up to Black Bear Tavern. Smooth move, Ex-Lax. I think that my thought process had something to do with food and the lack of it I was suffering.

I am sure that I annoyed the living shit out of all of those I encountered. At this point I was officially drunk. I remember snagging one of the few remaining hot dogs, that was the only thing I had to eat.

Much fun (at least for me) was had until I ripped my favorite pair of shorts trying to squeeze by a chair to get out of the building.

The walk back to my car was hot, but incredibly refreshing.

A while after returning home a sudden and overwhelming feeling of lack of control struck me. I can’t figure out how I was on the bathroom floor, but I was. I think the cool kids call it passing out. I thing the rock stars call it standard operating procedure.

Nothing was accomplished beyond this point.

Things I wish to not repeat
– Comparing the relative comfort of hardwood floors to ceramic tile
– Puking (so long, hot dog)
– Waking up on the bathroom floor to find out it’s 7:00pm
– And then again to find out it’s 9:30pm
– Staggering from the bathroom floor to bed
– Missing fireworks… again
– Waking up sometime later, starving and head pounding, only to go get some bread and milk from the kitchen before returning to bed

I have only myself to blame. I regret so much of what I did yesterday and I cannot let it ever happen again.

I hope that your day was better.

ITP Flickr Pic
Here is a photo I might have posted yesterday. It’s another of those that I like that has seemed to gather no interest on Flickr. Oh well.

Ever Have That Feeling Like Someone Is Looking Over Your Shoulder?

In case you a wondering it’s part of a statue in Decatur and I used a wide open aperture (f/2.8 if I remember correctly) to get the shallow depth of field.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – disappointed and still rough around the edges
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Mando Diao — “TV & Me”
Website Of The Day – Social Networking for and an activity that long pre-dates the web — book reading. Go find out what your friends are reading at Good Reads.
Exercise (b)Log – walking, approximately 3 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car

July Goals
0) Celebrate my 42nd birthday
1) Get my first Ruby / Ruby on Rails program written
2) Get my photoblog up and running

Oh, not to worry – everyone seemed to be schnockered by the end! I was totally tanked myself (as evidenced from pictures I tried to take!) and proceeded to drink even more when I got home (stupid girl).

I had a similar experience (not getting sick, thank God!): I woke up at 6 o’clock thinking it was 6AM and in a panic: where’s my keys? I gotta get to work! Wait, I can’t go to work — how am I still drunk?! It took me a good 10 minutes of panic to realize it was still 6PM. D’oh!

Hope you’re feeling better today! 🙂 Still up for Taco Mac or shall we postpone to a future July Thursday to give our livers a rest? (either way is fine with me!!)

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I’m still up for Taco Mac and Big Brother tonight. Even though tonight’s beer is PBR I will be excited to drink it for beer #50.

Holler at me later to set a meeting time.

  3. Stacy says:

Sweet! Will do. It’s really kinda sick how excited I am about Big Brother too!

  4. Barb says:

Sounds like a fun time was had, well, until the passing out & puking part. I think everyone is some degree of hungover today. It sure seemed like Saturday yesterday.

  5. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yes, it did feel like a Saturday yesterday. Thankfully, Saturday is only a few days away!

  6. Gentri says:

How late did you stay there??? Can honestly say you were sounding pretty chipper when we walked back to the bar! Sorry you ended up getting cozy with a cool surface!

Open bar = bad things happening to Gentri so I bailed! I had decided that the Black Bear was a bad idea after the final beer stop had my head already buzzing and the cool of a pool beckoned!

I ended up going to the pool party I mentioned to you in EAV till about 6, then got home and grilled up some fish tacos! Yummy! Lame ass-edly watched fireworks on TV then went to bed! Tired but had a fun day!

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I don’t know what time I left. I was far from the last person to leave, but the crowd had slimmed significantly.

I think the beer stop did more damage than Black Bear. I should have eaten more food, however.

I blame Harold for being such a fast runner and opening up the beer stop so early. 🙂 Okay, I really just blame myself.

  8. Martha says:

Oh Wow! I’ve finally stopped laughing long enough to type. Oh Wow!

I don’t know what time I left BB yesterday either. The last photo was taken about 12:30. We also headed to a pool…it’s all pretty fuzzy after that. Thank God I have a Designated Driver/someone to watch out for my drunk ass. Somehow stayed vertical long enough to get some food at the Glenwood. The boys were trying to keep me awake until 10 so I wouldn’t be waking up at 2 am. Finally, at 9 I insisted on going home, my head was pounding and I was drifting off at the bar.

It was a great day and I was glad to see you made it out!

  9. Terri (SW) says:

Betsy, Lenette, Gary and I lamented about how we didn’t have a pool to retire to that afternoon, so we went to Target and bought one. It was fun at the time, but now I have a sizeable kiddie pool on my porch which I can guarantee will get little use over the coming weeks.

Could use it for the Pinelake 1050 pool-ending that has been so elusive…hmmm.

Would also be mighty fine in the back of a large pickup truck…could take it to all hashes! If only I knew someone with a large enough truck…

BTW- it could easily fit four adults comfortably…we had three in it yesterday with loads of room. Maybe I should rent the pool, eh?

  10. You bought a pool? That’s rich! If it fit three, who didn’t get in?

  11. Terri (SW) says:

Only Bets, BWanA and I were in the pool.

  12. That BWanA is such a stud! I want to be just like him when I grow up. 🙂

  13. StacyD says:

You were just drunk enough at BB to be very funny — you were being paparazzi…and I wouldn’t mind having a copy of the photo of my braid. LOL!

  14. I will look for that photo StacyD and send it to you if it came out. (note to self: drinking heavily is not conducive to producing quality photography)
