Running From Reality

But not necessarily RealiTV.

Last night I was once again unable to make it to George’s by 6pm for my group run. Unlike last week traffic was not to blame, and I did not get out and run despite my tardy arrival. On the positive side I did leave fairly early after only two beers sharing some popcorn and nachos.

I’m A Happy Non-iPhone Owner
Apple slashed the price of the iPhone by $200 a mere two months after its introduction. While price cutting in the cell phone world is not unheard of, I am glad that I did not wait in line and then drop $600 for the phone.

I’m Not A Happy BlackJack Owner
I am frustrated with AT&T (Cingular, or whatever they call themselves). One of the reasons I switched to the BlackJack (and from Sprint to Cingular) was to pay (through-the-nose) in order to receive my email on my phone. This morning when I logged into my gmail account I had seven emails in my inbox. According to my phone I had no email. What the fuck AT&T?

I needed a Mountain Dew in order to get me through yesterday. While suffering through a meeting I read the bottle’s label.

I'm No Math Wizard....

Somebody at PepsiCo can’t do math

The bottle is 20 ounces
If the number of calories per 8 ounces is 110
Then the number of calories in the bottle should be 275
Because the 8 * 2.5 = 20 and therefore 110 * 2.5 = 275

Sleeping Through Top Chef
I missed a good twenty minutes of last night’s Top Chef because I dosed off. (Does that indicate how compelling the episode was?) All I remember was that Brian won the QuickFire Challenge and won nothing but a bucket of pride, Casey (Little Bunny Foo Foo) won the Elimination Challenge along with a 17″ Macbook Pro (finally a decent reward), and Howie slit his own throat at least twice in the episode and therefore finally met his demise.

And now for some ideas stolen from LiveJournal…
Current Mood – cranky
Current Music – Sirius Satellite Radio, Channel 26 playing Ween — “Transdermal Celibration”
Website Of The Day – One product not updated yesterday was AppleTV. not AppleTV is a neat Flash Mashup to let you experience AppleTV without actually owning one.
Exercise (b)Log – nothing
Monthly Mileage – 0 miles
Mode Of Transportation To Work – My car

September Goals
1) Get my first Ruby / Ruby on Rails program written
2) Lose 5 pounds (if at first, second, third, fourth, you don’t succeed….)
3) Take now fewer than three photos a day
4) Listen to (and review) one CD a day in September

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

God, that must have been a dull meeting if you had time to detect math errors. As your attorney I suggest you sue Pepsi for false advertising, emotional distress and since you were shortchanged 15 important calories — bodily injury.

  2. stacy says:

Not only calories, but what about those precious carbs? Or sodium? Huh? Huh? Is the math wrong there too? Could you be consuming more sodium than you had planned as well? (I’d try to figure it out but I’m a girl and, therefore, cannot do math.) Sue PepsiCo! It put your sodium level over the edge!

I really can’t stand when companies do this. I understand it’s probably a marketing thing to break the percentages by “serving size” (oh look! the caloric intake isn’t so bad after all! or so I would think because I’m a girl and don’t do math). But, seriously, it should be ONE serving and their numbers should reflect that: put the values on for the whole 20 oz.!

And while I’m at it, since when did a serving become 8 oz. anyway? They’ve had 12 oz. cans being single servings for years. If they have to divide the bottle into servings, THAT would at least make a little more sense.

I think Stacy had too much coffee this morning…

The math for the sodium number is correct for the % it is not (2*2.5 = 5)

Everything else looks okay. I can put it all in a speadsheet if anyone wants it? God I’m a geek.

  4. Barb says:

yes Martha – if you put that into a spreadsheet – you are a GEEK!!!!
