Don’t Flatten Yourself

With the exception that my front tire flattened around the forty-five mile mark of the sixty-five I rode yesterday I had a great day. Oddly, I was not the only one of the group of riders who convened at the Moreland Day Spa to experience a flat. From accounts at the end Brad had one, and Marty had two. And here I always thought that the roads ITP were vicious…

Paulie The Hippie No More
After work on Friday I went to Helmet Hairworx in East Atlanta to get a haircut. I had made an appointment with a young stylist and let her have her way with me (hell, it’s about the only way that I get that these days). After much hacking she cleaned up the hippie. The hair looks good, although it’s a bit short and uncontrollable at the moment. This is not an unusual occurrence for me for almost every time some one cuts my hair for the first time they are frustrated by its ultra-fine, baby-softness that never allows them to cut it the way they want.

As for me I’m just happy that I have a mostly-full head of hair at forty-three — you should have seen my brother at that age. 😉

Cell Phone Coverage: Not Exactly Everywhere Yet
I expected to be out of AT&T’s coverage area while driving around BFE Colorado, but an hour outside of Atlanta??? Further, I would love it if someone could figure out a way to guarantee cell coverage in every part of my house, including the basement. I missed some text messages last night because I chose to watch last night’s football game in HD on the big screen.

As a matter of fact I do want it all!

Well, That’s Odd
Two strange revelations occurred last night while surfing the internet in the basement (at least I have that means of communication down there).

First, whilst catching up on some Twittering I learned of the “Replies” tab from a Tweet posted by Christine Kane. On the “Replies” tab you can see all of the messages, that are not direct messages that have been sent to you. Huh, you’d think that Twitter would have some indicator alerting you that there are new entries on that tab. Obviously I never was curious enough to check it out previously.

While reading through the items in the “Replies” tab I came across one from Regator (you might remember that I discussed them on Friday) alerting me the my blog has been aggregated on their site since April. Huh, it’s possible that I’ve been living blindly with my head up my ass since then but I never knew this! Oh well, they can continue to aggregate if they wish. Now I’ll have to figure out how to determine if people are finding this blog through them.

From Worst To First
I played two games of dominoes down at the spa. In the first game I finished dead last. In the second game I whipped ass.

That is all.

I said I wouldn’t dredge up photos from Fort Collins… this is from the Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs.
Garden Of The Gods
Due to circumstances completely in my control I didn’t get ready for the weekend on Friday night as planned, therefore Saturday morning shooting was canceled. With any luck I plan to work on setting up some studio shots tonight, so perhaps I’ll have fresh material soon.

What A Fantastic Football Weekend!
Any time my teams beat the teams representing Miami I have much rejoicing.

University of Miami: 3
University of Florida: 26

New York Jets: 20
Miami Dolphins: 14

There was much rejoicing, even if I also determined that this is going to be the worst East Atlanta Deadbeat Dads fantasy football team that I have ever fielded — and I didn’t even draft Tom Brady.

The Plan For Tonight Is “Running” (Before The Organizing And Football Watching)
Even with soreness from riding yesterday I am planning on doing a few road miles tonight around East Atlanta. I can no longer run from the fact that I’ve signed up to do a brutal twelve mile run at the beginning of November, so I need to start training now (actually two weeks ago, but we can’t change the past).

Paulie, your hair looks great on the short side (even a little shorter?), I like it alot.

Something must be in the air. I installed new shelving in the kitchen and today I have a helper coming to finish the rest of the kitchen. I’m ready to clean, purge and organize…I can’t live like this anymore. I’ve already been to Target once this morning…I see more trips to Target and Lowes in my future.

My legs felt like lead today at bootcamp…of course today was all sprints!! I will be running tonight but again 3 at the most.

  2. Barb says:

I’m back!!!!!!! I want to see a picture of the new haircut!!!!!
It sucks coming back to work to a pile of paper on the desk and way too many emails to sort thru.

Bummer about the flat yesterday, we got in at 11:15PM Saturday night, and after 2 days (20 hours) of driving, there was no way we were up to riding sunday morning. So, Allan decided yard work was in order instead. Not fun, but necessary.

If you need a tune-up still, I think Mango is planning a maintenance night soon, or we can meet up and Allan can work on the bike at the house.

  3. Andrew says:

You may wish to look into a cell phone repeater, http://www.repeaterstore.com/. What is it with cell phones in houses? I don’t know anyone who has decent coverage in their house.

  4. Martha says:

Barb, check out my flick page, I posted a pic of the haircut…

  5. Sal says:

I’ll second that…….the hair cut looked good. I agree with Martha…even shorter would be good too!.

I would also like to add that I went to bed a winner…..no, not what you think………I went to bed leading in Dominos….someone took over (won’t mention any names) and made me a loser!

Great week-end at the Moreland Week-end spa and retreat! I highly recommend it!

Glad to have you back Barb.

  6. Steve says:

Sal- I resemble that remark!! I was within 19 point of the lead on the final hand and managed to choke down 80 points. Oh well…

Glad everyone had a good time at JEFDSDR. Barb, I completely understand and would have been suprised if you had made it.

Sorry to all for the flat tires- I’ll try and do better!!

    My legs are completely trashed.

  7. @Sal: It seemed that passing your game to another participant was not the best domino strategy (see also Marty -> Ray). 🙂

@Barb: I’ll have to see about the tune-up. My bike is very creeky (technical term) when I pedal, that seems to be the worst of it. Well, except for the mystery flat that I had yesterday.

I also concur that going back to work after a long hiatus stinks. Why can’t people just handle things without us? Oh, that would mean we are not needed. Never mind…

@Andrew: I just might have to check out the repeater. Cell service in East Atlanta stinks because there are no towers nearby. To make matters worse my basement is like a dungeon so the service is nearly non-existent down there.

  8. @Steve (and @Debbie whenever she gets around to reading): I feel that I short-changed your hospitality for the weekend. THANKS so much for housing and feeding me. I had a really enjoyable time even if your proximity to Central Time caused me to be a slacker and question why everyone was rushing around when it was clearly only 6:20am according to my cell phone.

@Barb: I was not surprised that you and Allan decided to stay home. I mean, who would want to sit in a car for another ninety minutes after the long trip you’ve just completed? And it’s not like I was smart enough to get you to bring beer home for me or anything like that…

  9. Debbie says:

    I demand a rematch — Best 2 out of 3!

You’re welcome any time Paulie even when you bring your domino A game.

Welcome back Barb, we missed you guys yesterday, but if you had jumped in the car again that quickly we would have had you committed.

  10. I’ll honor your rematch. Although we will have to find players willing to play the entire game. 🙂

  11. Sal says:

    I’m in…I’m all in!

  12. debbie says:

Okay Sal, we’ll start well in advance of your bed time next time!

I forgot to third that the haircut looked good. I think Travis thought so, too.

  13. Travis (ITP-reader Bob’s and on-and-off-ITP-reader Laura’s boy), aka “Bag ‘O Tricks,” kept staring at me yesterday. You know what they say, children and animals see evil….

  14. Barb says:

We did bring back a 12 of Fat Tire & Skinny Dip (I think) plus some Artic beer for Shappens….. and a bunch of blue coolers. Paulie – did you want yours someday?

I hated missing the party yesterday, since I haven’t played dominoes since I was a kid, and don’t remember how to play. Oh well…….. when is the next gathering down south planned?

I’m sure the haircut is better, I’m a firm believer that most guys look much better with shorter hair.

  15. I’ll take my cooler. I wouldn’t have asked you to bring it back otherwise. I *think* I left a pack of Uno cards in it too. You will be at Hartwell, right?

There was no scheduling of another gathering. Since it’s not my house I will wait for the hosts to announce something. 😉

The haircut is good, especially since all I pretty much told her is “do something.” I want to build a professional relationship with her so I like to get her comfortable with my fashion ignorance.

  16. Barb says:

yes, we will be at Hartwell sometime on friday evening……… we will bring whatever we can find that I can pretend is yours.

  17. Excellent! I will be the guy pretending to help Niplets and Little Easy cook on Saturday night. 😉

  18. Michelle says:

Paulie: I can’t remember if I mentioned it yesterday, but I like the haircut too!

Steve / Debbie: Thanks so much for a wonderful apres-ride yesterday. Next time I come down I’ll keep my ride to 10 miles so I’ll have some energy. Maybe I’ll earn my “spa day” next time we’re there. (stack hay?)

All: Can’t wait for more dominoes…I’ll bring our set to Hartwell!

    Michelle
