My First One Hundred Days

Published by Paulie [eatl/ga] on January 20, 2009 08:30 am under My Daily Life

Well, well, well.
The day has finally arrived.
Today is an historic day.
Today I return to the world of the exercising.
What, something else is going on today?

IKEA : Round Two — This May Have Been The Last Time
If you remember recently I hated on IKEA. I felt justified as it was a royal pain to get to, the layout is mega confusing, and I was unable to purchase some of the items which drew me to the store.

With rare exception I rarely give up after the first try. Since I was “in the neighborhood” I decided to give IKEA another shot. And besides, after my last trip I decided that their $0.50 shopping bags would make great laundry bags. (I was right.)

My trip to IKEA was not quite as painful as last time, even though there were many more people shopping in the store this time around. However, knowing how to get in and out of Atlantic Station, as well as IKEA itself, and the lighter holiday traffic made things bearable. I wound up buying ten candles (reduced to $0.49 each, three little wooden mannequins to add to my collection, and another IKEA shopping bag for laundry today.

The reason I was “in the neighborhood” for IKEA was that I stopped and picked up my developed 120 film E-6 Labs. I’ve started another new art project called “Diana+ v. D300.”

Junkman's Daughter Eyes
(D300, affixed with a 50mm prime lens shoot oat ISO400)

Junkman's Daughter Eyes
(Diana+, loaded with black and white ASA400 film)

For my shots I attempted to compose each shot the same. I think this is going to be a fun project.

I Need A Judge’s Ruling
While updating my stats this morning I encountered a dilemma. This morning I packed my laundry and included my bed linens. Unlike in washings past where I went, washed, and returned home immediately I have left my bed barren of linens for blogging time. Do I give myself credit for making my bed even though technically I did not?

Stats & Goals

Website Of The Day – Now this is Change I can endorse! (be forewarned, they make lingerie)

- Completely read the book 1001 Paintings You Must See Before You Die
- Earn at least $150 through photography sales in order to cover the cost for the renewal of the Jalapeño Beach SmugMug account I opened the other day.
- Save $500 for the sole purpose of donating to charitable organizations of my choice
- Attend at least one professional photography workshop

The Unmeasurable
- Continue backing up all data, including the off-site storage

When you get home tonight you will make the bed, correct? If so I think you get to count today.

You’re B&W photos are sort of spooky looking, an interesting effect.

  2. Paulie [eatl/ga] on January 20th, 2009 @ 08:50

Yes, well once the linens come out of the drier I will.

The Diana is a cheap, plastic, “toy” camera. Some of the spookiness may be contributed to the fact that I shot black and white. Also I’ve never shot one of these cameras before so I had little idea about what I was doing. :)

  3. Barb on January 20th, 2009 @ 09:17

I think you should have 2 sets of sheets, so when you stripped the bed, you could have remade it right then. So, I’d say no, but if you don’t have another set of sheets, that isn’t an option.

I’m feeling the need to go to IKEA and buy candles now, I haven’t been there in forever.

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] on January 20th, 2009 @ 09:24

I have three sets of sheets.
    - the flannel set I took off this morning.
    - the flannel set I don’t like and don’t know why I keep.
    - the satin set which I put on in warmer weather.

I should have bought more when Linens n Things was going out of business. :(

The candles I got were on clearance, but they have many of similar size for $2. And before anyone asks, I like candles for the aroma and the small amount of heat that they give off.

  5. Martha on January 20th, 2009 @ 09:35

I have an extra set of sheets but I love the ‘just out of the dryer’ feel/smell, so I always wait to remake the bed.

So what will you being doing for your first workout tonight? I didn’t run yesterday, about drove me crazy, going to rest again today and hopefully be better for my two runs tomorrow.

  6. Paulie [eatl/ga] on January 20th, 2009 @ 09:45

First workout will be situps/pushups/dumbbell curls.

I am going to incorporate cycling into the routine (indoors until the weather warms a bit) in the near future. And while it sounds impossible, I plan to do less running this year than last — my knee is still weak.

It may sound weird, but perhaps you shouldn’t run twice in one day? I’m just sayin’.

  7. Martha on January 20th, 2009 @ 10:10

Yep last night I did arms and abs, along with a little ‘dancing’, just because I could! I guess I’ll do the same thing tonight, kind of wish I had brought my workout clothes so I could have it the gym, the elipical machine shouldn’t be hard on the knee.

Yeah, tomorrow. So I’ll do my normal run with the GP boys and then Tom wants me to run with him tomorrow at George’s, I have no idea why. It should be an slow, short, easy run. Will we see you tomorrow night?

  8. Paulie [eatl/ga] on January 20th, 2009 @ 10:13

I’m not sure about tomorrow night. I am keeping my options open.

  9. Debbie on January 20th, 2009 @ 10:40

I say yes on counting today since you will be making the bed before you get back in it. I actually think you get a bonus point for making it up with freshly laundered sheets — one of my favorite things. We have a gazillion sheets, but only two sets I like, so I usually rotate those two and make it right up.

  10. Barb on January 20th, 2009 @ 11:01

okay- you can count it as a made bed day, I’ve been convinced since you only have 1 set of flannel sheets you like. I put the “unliked” flannel sheets on the bed the other day, and now I think I’ll throw out the bottom (it doesn’t fit right) and just keep the top flat sheet for camping, or whatever.

And- the window installers are at the house, I can’t believe we are getting new windows on such a cold day, I’m sure I’ll have extra blankets on the bed tonight.

BTW- any ITP readers on the 24 bandwagon this year? I’m liking this season so far.

  11. Bob on January 20th, 2009 @ 12:11

Travis survived his day with Dad yesterday and I only had to call Laura twice :) .
Bummer about the Superbowl party getting canceled, always a great time.
I was off yesterday so I’m catching up on some ITP.

So if you are going to cycle more does this mean we will see you at Wheelhopper? There is one on Sunday starting at the Carter center.

Barb, 24? hell yes, I’m loving 24 so far.

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] on January 20th, 2009 @ 12:17

Looking to do more road riding, although Wheelhoppers will be kept in mind.
