Oh, Today’s A Blogging Day?

Oh hello there. I’m now going to have to admit two things.
1) I’m not going to work today because I couldn’t get all of the things done that I needed to get done last night.
2) Because I’ve been so busy this morning I almost forgot to write a blog.

Well, Look Who I Found At An Asian Food Court
Yesterday my arm was (slightly) twisted to eat at the Asian food court on New Peachtree. I used to eat there far more often, and for a while I used to meet ITP-Reader Harold (BWanA) and Ralph (One Ball) for some hot pot, but hadn’t been there in some months. I was thinking that it had been a long time since I met up with them when, whadda know, I saw Harold enter the food court. Go figure.

I tried to order from the hot pot place, but found that it had just changed owners and they had yet to print menus with English names. And for some reason I couldn’t remember the name of anything I used to order there (#72 was always good though), so I had to move on.

If You See Me Tomorrow, Try The Andouille, Cheese, Grits Cakes
I’m no Iron Chef. I’m no Top Chef. Hell, I’m not even a chef! However, I do enjoy mixing up the ingredients to prepare food (note to self: That plumbing is not going to fix itself!).

Last night I whipped up four batches of andouille, cheese, grits cakes (okay three have andouille one is vegetarian into which I added some rosemary for added flavor).

Sometimes even “simple” preparations take longer than desired. Such was the case last night when the whole “watched pot never boils” played through my mind often. I even made two batches in tandem in attempt to quicken the process. In the end it was past eleven o’clock by the time I put the last batch into the refrigerator so that it could harden up today for frying up tomorrow.

Tomorrow will also be the day that I construct a shrimp sauce that’ll be served over the non-vegetarian portions (sorry vegheads, I’m not sure I’ll be able to concoct a meatless sauce given tomorrow’s time constraints).

ITP Flickr Pic
Hey look, oh wait never mind.

Sadly part-way through grits cake preparation I thought “Oh, I should photograph this.” but then quickly dismissed the idea because I was ass-over-teakettle in preparation.

The Great Beer/Burrito Trade
Last night I met up with ITP-Reader Hank in L5P at El Myr for hard drive transfer of ownership. Hank was nice enough to buy me a burrito and two beers as trade, which I found to be an excellent offer.

I’m not sure why I don’t eat at El Myr more often, especially for as many times as I go to concerts next door at Variety Playhouse. I guess the one thing that keeps me from frequenting it is the amount of smoking inside, which is amplified by how small the restaurant is. (note to self: Make these cigarette smoking, PBR swilling hipsters pay for your healthcare before you have to pay for theirs.)

Hoping For No Mistakes By The Lake
This is the annual Hartwell Campout weekend for the Black Sheep hash. In years past I’ve been either a late arriver or early departer (or both) for various reasons. I plan to be neither this year, but one never knows…

In addition to all of the food I prepared last night and the camping gear I plan to use, I’m also packing the Red Rocket in hopes of getting in a fast, flat, twenty-mile solo ride tomorrow morning and my camera in hopes of taking a few photos this weekend. Wish me well on both.

Stats & Goals
Daily
Current Mood – harried, wish that I didn’t have to take a paid vacation day today.

El Myr allows smoking? That place is a shoebox! I have no problems with smoking establishments (unless I’m eating dinner – then I’ll take non-smoking, please), but something that size allowing it makes me think of those movie scenes where potheads smoke up inside a VW van, open the door, and smoke just rolls out in waves. I bet that happens there.

Have fun at the campout! As you’re heading up, wave westward at about Exit 120. Yup, that’s where I am these days. ๐Ÿ™‚ Looking forward to seeing camping pictures… where is the pig head going to end up THIS year? We’ll see….

  2. Yeah, El Myr is a smoking establishment. I assume that on Friday / Saturday nights that is is just like a smoke-filled van.

Weather permitting the weekend should be fun. No pig at this campout, we are serving up Cajun food tomorrow night. The andouille sausage is even homemade thanks to ITP-Reader Tony (Niplets).

I’ll be certain to wave as I pass exit 120 — wherever the heck that is. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Stacy says:

Bring your passport. You need passports to get out here.

  4. RanLiCoop says:

Paulie, have fun at Hartwell this weekend. Tell Sani I said Hi… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Barb says:

Have a great time camping – hoping the weather gets nicer than it is this morning (it is 65 right now??? what’s up with that?) Wish we could go, but Allan is working tomorrow, and I get tired of everyone asking me ‘Where’s Service?”. I”m seriously thinking about getting a t-shirt made that says – “he isn’t here cuz he hates you!” or “he’s at the firehouse – dumbass!”

I’d like to try these grit cakes.

p.s. – did Bwana tell you about Oinker? If not, I suppose you will see/hear about it this weekend.

  6. Martha says:

I’m behind on packing as well. I did get my run in this morning, now I’m getting ready to pack the car and head to the store for supplies.

Jerry decided to come up with me today. He had/has a job interview this morning so I’m now waiting on him. I doubt we will leave as early as I had planned.

The weather this morning was great for running, I hope the clouds burn off for the weekend. I’m not planning on doing the trail tomorrow but I’m going to run a few miles each morning.

Speaking of running … Barb, I didn’t get to tell you yesterday what a BAD idea it was to run home after the hash.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  7. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I might leave when I had intended, but I had to burn vacation time to do so. Oh well, better than sitting in traffic I suppose.

I’m not sure if I’ll run the hash tomorrow. I have my own stash of beer so it may come down to how I feel after my ride and how much prep te I want before making my portion of the dinner.

  8. Barb says:

hint, hint…. if you bring your own tap, you can have beer while they are gone.

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Good point. It’s easier for me just to bring my own beer than to locate the appropriate tap handle though.

  10. Martha says:

I have an extra tap around the house but I just bought extra beer myself.

Looks like a much later start than I had hoped for, he still has some ‘work’ to do before we leave.

maybe I’ll take a nap. I wasn’t happy to be awake at 5 am.

  11. Barb says:

well, I guess not everyone is like my eagle scout hubby (be prepared is there motto?) He has a tap that is usually in the truck…..

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Oh I’m prepared. I have beer, so I don’t need a tap. ๐Ÿ™‚
