Oh Responsibility, How I Hate You So

The “Plan” was to leave work early and head down to Warm Springs for a few nights of camping with the Black Sheep Hash. Instead I will be working a full day, doing laundry, and then heading home to attempt to fix one of my toilet’s plumbing. Camping will occur for one night, tomorrow night. At least it’s not supposed to rain.

That Meal Might Count For Two Days Of Meat Eating
Last night I met up with ITP-Readers Barb, Sal, and Steve for a wonderful meat-filled meal at Fox Bros BBQ.

We started with some fried mac-n-cheese cubes and a pitcher of Yeungling. I order a “babyback ribs combo” plate (for the “other” meat I chose brisket) with sides of onion rings and cornbread.

The meal was large, and amazingly delicious. I’m sure the others had similar opinions.

Is It Just Me?
Prior to heading to Fox Bros I swung by Lowe’s in Edgewood Retail District to purchase a supply line for my toilet. What I needed was a simple, industry-standard 9″ tube with a 1/2″ fitting on one side and a 7/8″ fitting on the other. Lowe’s had none of these in stock. NONE!

I wound up buying a “one-size fits all” twelve-inch supply line. I’ll be swinging by the Home Depot to see if I can get the proper tube before I attempt to use the one I bought.

Finding empty shelves and peg hooks for the products I seek seems to be a common occurrence these days. Has this been happening to anyone else?

I Can’t Wait To Break Up With This Cough
For nearly a week I’ve had a nasty-sounding, and somewhat irritating cough. Each day I expect it to be gone and think it is, until I start coughing again.

I No Longer Belong In A Zoo
(Warning: I may have mentioned this previously.)

I really like Zoo Atlanta. In fact I liked it so much two years ago that I purchased a two-year membership. That membership expires at the end of this month. At first there was no doubt that I was going to renew my zoo membership, and then I received the information about Zoo Atlanta’s “New” membership plans.

Zoo Atlanta’s newest lowest-priced membership is their “Companion” membership good for two adults; that membership level costs $79 a year. Wait, what happened to a membership for a single person? There is only one of me, and I only go to the zoo to photograph, so I never need a membership that covers two adults at one time. I also don’t feel that $79 is a reasonable “lowest-level” membership for an organization like the zoo. I may go four times a year and don’t think that $20 admission per visit is something to which I wish to agree.

“Cost” is going to be something that I whine about more often as organizations seem to feel that they can continue to raise prices even as people continue to lose jobs in a sagging economy. (see also: Georgia State Parks parking passes being raised from $30 to $50 this year.)

Ummm meat! Good food, good company and good beer can’t be beat. We should do that again when a few more playas are in town.

Depending on the chore list tomorrow, I may come down and hash since it’s in the “neighborhood”.

  2. I’m always up for a night of meat eating at Fox Bros.

Hope you can make it down to the hash, Steve. Hell, I hope I can make it down there too! I should be able to, but with my house one never knows.

  3. Barb says:

I thought the next ITP-reader meeting was going to be at Tasty China?
(though Fox Bros. was very tasty)

How much does it cost to just go to the Zoo? Do you actually go to the zoo with the companion to use that membership? What about splitting it with a fellow photog?

  4. Steve says:

Ahh so. 🙂 I type corrected.

Do we know where the camping at FDR is actually taking place at the park? And I assume the start will be the same location?

  5. Oh Tasty China will be next Barb. And I’m thinking of taking a co-worker to Tasty China next week for lunch too if you are interested in joining us.

A single admission into the zoo is currently $19. I guess I could split the cost, but I’m trying to “do the right thing”.

Steve, if it’s like every other BS campout then the start is at the pioneer camp area where the hashers are camping.

  6. Barb says:

Next week I plan to eat lunch everyday, so just let me know what day & what time, and I’ll see if I can fit in into my busy schedule. (hahahaha, I’m never that busy to skip lunch). Allan is off Thursday at both jobs, if you want him to join us too.

  7. Martha says:

I know it might sound crazy but the directions/instructions for the hash tomorrow are on the AH4 forum. Meet at 1:30, 2:00 start. We are asking the ‘day hashers’ to park by the pool and walk down to site #4.

Sorry you can’t make it tonight, with any luck I’m about 90 minutes from take off…just waiting on Tasty Pie and packing last minute stuff.

  8. Steve says:

So I guess I’m looking for a sign to the pool off 190? Or to the pioneer camping area… yep, that’s the hash.. pioneers!

  9. I will say that we are pioneers in the sense that we go places most people refuse. 😉

I’ll be down early enough to secure a parking space in the pioneer area as the Jackmobile will most likely be serving as my tent for this trip.

  10. Sarah says:

Steve, the pool is the Liberty Bell Pool on 354. From your house, go the way you biked, turn right onto 190 (the highway that runs through the park). Go several miles, and turn right onto 354 just before the park headquarters. The pool will then be a short distance on your right. Just FYI, 354 is also the shortest route into Pine Mountain from the campground & HQ.

And don’t forget your State Park pass 🙂
