I’m Going The Wrong Way

I’m Trying To Fool The Universe
In killing time before meeting up for trivia I made a rare appearance inside a Best Buy last night. It’s been some time since I’ve been inside one and have to admit that I was almost a bit overwhelmed with all of the shit (both good and bad) they sell these days.

I was inside Best Buy to laugh at the ridiculously high price that they would certainly be charging for an 8GB USB Flash drive (because I still can’t find the three I know I put somewhere “safe”). To my surprise the 8GB USB Flash drive that I wound up purchasing last night was actually priced cheaper at Best Buy than at Amazon — even when you include sales tax!

Dear Universe: I’ve moved on from those other USB Flash drives, you may reveal their hiding spot whenever you deem appropriate.

This was the shot I was going to post yesterday.
And You Think You're Committed?
The photographer that you see pictured holding his waterproof camera scarily close to that raft is my friend Dave. I’m waiting for him to post the shots he took that day.

Team Trivia, Filled With Fail
I joined a friend’s trivia team last night and I’m sad to say that I didn’t provide a single answer. The few questions I could answer were easily answered by other team members.

The night started off strangely because we had to split into two tables because of the large size of our team (seven) and the small size of the Northlake Mellow Mushroom. The pizza I ate last night (a buffalo chicken pizza) didn’t help my weight-loss effort, but the waitress’ inability to come and take a beer order from me while I ate said pizza did (for the record all I drank last night was water).

AT&T : One Company With Many Parts
I received an email from AT&T telling me that the credit card I registered for my iPad’s data plan (here’s something interesting which makes me feel a little stupid, I just realized that because my iPad has 3G capabilities it also means that it has a cellphone number) is expiring. I received similar emails for my AT&T U-Verse plan and my iPhone plan.

Three plans, three different bills, three different login/password combinations. Wouldn’t it be awesome if there were one AT&T account to rule them all? I contracted to AT&T (then BellSouth) in 1995, so I’ll pass on making any effort to help them out with this…

I really can’t stand to enter Best Buy, the noise, the lights, it’s really all too much for me. The last time I went in was just a few weeks ago, but we got there just as the opened…it was just tolerable at that point.

I need to either get or find a USB drive. Apparently, there are ‘updates’ for my Escape/Sync and the only way update is copy from the computer to a USB drive then from the USB to the car…seems like there should be a better way??? I’m still debating syncing (sp?) my work BB to the car, not sure I want to be that connected.

Bad, bad workout at the gym yesterday. I was worried about doing box jumps with my wonky knee, instead I got back spasms in the middle of the WOD…

  2. Surprised that SYNC can’t do over-the-air updates, but that’s only because I’ve been in the satellite tv game for so long. Doing a USB update should be really easy though. USB drives are pretty dirt cheap, the 8GB one I bought last night was $12.99.

Good luck with the knee. I know all too well how hard it is to get over injuries.

and speaking of photos.. I gave Stacy a photo “assignment” this morning. I have “found” a peach tree- no, not a Peachtree, a real live fruit bearing one full of peaches. In the little “park” next to the former Jock’s and Jill’s on 10th St. Though the fruit is small, there is plenty of it.

Shame it isn’t on Peachtree St.

  4. What fruits are growing on the trees near the railroad tracks of Sage Hill shopping center? They are in massive bloom(?) right now, fraught with fruit.

  5. Steve says:

Last week, when I ran through that parking lot, I no more looked at those trees than the man in the moon.. I’ll run that same route tonight and report.

  6. Also take note that the paint store is no longer in business. Which reminds me, how does a store which sells only paint stay in business in this day of Big Box home improvement stores?

  7. Barb says:

Paint store – I’d much rather go to Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore or whoever to buy paint than go to a big box stores. (Plus, I worked for Sherwin Williams for 7 years as a sales rep). Their paint may cost a little more, but I like the people that work there, they actually know about the products. (like when we decided to stain the garage floor).
And – just a side note – the majority of the paint store business is contractors – not the home owner.

Deck stairs now have handrails, the cement landings have not been re-done (or really, added to) yet – ran out of time last night.

  8. Hmm, if the majority of the paint store business is by contractors then why have retail store presence? Marketing?

  9. Barb says:

well – the contractors have to come order & pick up the paint from somewhere……. and they do have some retail business, it just usually isn’t a huge percentage.

  10. Jenka says:

Martha, I find it ironic that your “bad, bad workout” was exactly the same as mine (3.2 rounds?), only you still probably used heavier wall balls and KBs! Not complaining, just think it’s funny!

  11. Stacy Fox says:

Thanks for the reminder, Martha – I needed to do that for my SYNC too. I do love the SYNC, but it is pretty dumb we can’t just zap it over to the car somehow. We always have a bunch of these things laying around the office though, so I keep one on my key chain. Want me to drop one in the mail to you? Either that or Staples right now has some 3GB flash drives on sale for $5.99.

And I love my peach tree assignment! 🙂 Was just saying I might need to take a walk over there after work tonight….see if I can get a good shot or too.

  12. Martha says:

Yeah, I sort of looked around at other’s results and was sort of surpised, I swear I spent at least 5 minutes of the WOD flat on the ground, trying to make it stop!! Did I mention I have rope burn on my inner thigh also..good times!

Not sure if I’m going in tonight, I may try out the knee and go for a short run instead. I really need to get back into my morning routine but I’ve had early’ish meetings all week.

Thanks Stacy, I’m sure I have one…it just a matter of having the drive at the same time I’m at a computer and thinking about the update, these three things have yet to converge…

ugh, painting…so while I was ‘taking a break from my career’ I started to scrape the paint off the walls in the office/bedroom…then I got bored with that project, so I have one wall with half the paint scraped off of it…it looks really, really nice 🙁

  13. Jenka says:

Martha, come to yoga tonight! It’ll be my first time back in over 6 weeks. 🙂

  14. Barb says:

oh yeah – everyone -Bike maintenance night at Mango’s tomorrow night.
Paulie – bring the pretty new bike so we can look at it? (Allan could help you get the cleats & pedals right too)

  15. Probably can’t make it tomorrow night, already have Taco Mac plans after work.
