Rain Delay

I’m later than I want to be thanks to last night’s storm. I was awakened at 3:30am and couldn’t get back to sleep for about an hour. Because of this I wound up turning off both alarms and sleeping in a bit this morning.

And Now For Something Completely Formerly Routine
I got called into late afternoon meeting which took forever to conclude. At meeting’s end I decided to go out for a beer and dinner. I pulled into the local Taco Mac parking lot and, because I’ve been spending too much time alone, talked myself out of going there last night (I’ll be there tonight with coworkers). I started my drive toward home, but not to home, trying to figure out where I’d go.

My first thought was to head to Decatur and try out Big Tex Cantina, but that wouldn’t solve the aloneness. Where could I go on a Wednesday night and be with people I know? Where. Could. I. Go?

I found parking in Virginia-Highland and meandered into George’s. Inside I ran into a couple of pre-running hashers and was pleased to hear that George III actually remembered my name. I spent the night chatting up some good friends, including ITP-Reader Steve, and headed home around 9:30pm — somehow not eating dinner. I got home and snacked on some items in my refrigerator before passing out until the rain woke me again. I’d call that a successful evening.

A hard day on the river is still better than an easy day at the office
A Hard Day On The River
There is a possibility that I’ll be back at the river on Sunday. Sorry if you are tired of rafting/kayaking photos.

Men Who Stair At Stairs
It’s a small step in the right direction, but I am once again climbing the stairs to my sixth floor office. My goal is to use the stairs every time to ascend to my office and as many times as possible to make the descent. Of course after two days I’ll be taking a break as I head out of town for what should be a relaxing, and unfortunately rainy, weekend in western North Carolina.

What’s really a bummer is that I was planning on taking the new ride on the trip. I’m dying to ride, dying to sweat on a bike, dying to stop feeling like I’m dying. However, the weather forecast is so dire I might not take the wheels. I’ll probably wind up packing all of my shit and suffering the diminished gas mileage in hopes that I can get out for at least one ride.

No Jerry Lewis On The MDA Telethon On Labor Day?
Then it’ll never be a real MDA Telethon again!

As my childhood gets smaller in the rearview mirror of Life there are very few traditions which remain today. I understand that Jerry Lewis is old, that’s he’s not been in the greatest of health, but by Jeebus for me he is the face of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Carolinas? Oooh, do I see some Cheerwine in your future? 😀

  2. Steve says:

Lovely to see you “in person” last night. While coresponding via the blog is fine, it’s also nice to see you close up.

For those keeping score at home, in case you didn’t know, it was miserably hot last night. Run/walk was the only viable option.

Rain? Last night? Must have slept through that, or else it piddled out before it made it All the way south.

Anyone interested in coming to the farm next weekend for some quality pool time, riding and dominoes?

  3. You are correct Stacy, I will be a modern Smokey and the Bandit bringing beer, wine, and Cheerwine across the state line. 🙂

Sorry I wandered and never made it back Steve. Great to see you as well. Currently I’m scheduled to head to Lake Hartwell for the weekend next weekend but if things change I’ll let you know.

In an odd weather pattern the rain seemed to travel nearly directly north to south. It very well may have petered out by the time it made it OTP again.

Steve, that sounds awesome – I’d love to crash that gathering sometime! (see, lookit me, all inviting myself) 🙂 I’m planning to be out of town though. Alas, not to North Carolina.

Though, for the record? I may just be one of the only folks around here who doesn’t really like the Cheerwine. It’s probably because I’m not a big fan of anything cherry.

Paulie, you know what will happen: if you bring your bike, it’ll rain. If you don’t, it won’t. So really, you just gotta decide whether you want it to rain or not and act accordingly.

Those storms were awesome last night! They really have to be to wake me up; I typically sleep through them. Scared the poor Oy cat though.

  5. Don’t like cake nor cherry items? You are a peculiar one, my friend. 😉

True. With all honesty I can say that I’d rather leave the bike at home and have a rain-free weekend. I do want to get out and shoot some photos this weekend.

  6. Barb says:

Allan has to take that Sergeant (is that spelled right?) test at some point next weekend, I don’t know when it is scheduled. But – once I find out, we might be interested in coming back down south.

We had an excellent storm last night, I saw a neighbor’s BIG tree down this morning on the way to work, not on the house or blocking the road, that was pretty lucky. I’m sure my tomatoes & peppers appreciated the rain.

I always think of George’s on Wed. nights, but just can’t convince myself to drive down there. But – tonight we will be venturing into the ITP world, gotta go to bike maintenance night – and Paulie’s friend’s bike might finally get looked at.

  7. I saw Jason last Saturday Barb and let him know how busy you and Allan had been getting things ready for your party. He laughed and said that he was in no rush.

Holy Shit, I just saw a tv commercial for DiGiorno’s Pepperoni Pizza and Chocolate Chip Cookies. What, the United States is not fat enough already?

  8. Vic says:

Are you going to the Ocoee Sunday? I’m going with friends for all day rafting. If you are, maybe I’ll see you!

  9. Vic, Sunday would be the day I’d be over there. Do you know what time you’ll be on the river?

  10. Martha says:

To be honest I’m not sure what woke me up the storm or Nibble’s reaction to the storm. BTW, you all are welcome, I watered everything after work yesterday to make sure that it rained last night.

Jerry’s is out of town this weekend, not sure what I’m going to do. I offered my services as a volunteer for Hot to Trot on Sunday but I have not heard back.

I might just spend the whole weekend in bed, the new mattress arrived this morning, I can’t wait for bedtime!!!

Barb, I probably won’t make it tonight, I’m either going to give the knee a test drive or head to the gym, I’m already in withdraws having missed yesterday.

  11. Steve says:

Stacy, you are certainly included in any JEFDSDR invitation- you ain’t crashing nothing. Would Labor Day weekend work out any better for folks? The 20th and 28th I’ll be in Colo. working the bike race.

And I forgot to report the trees along the Sage Hill parking lot are pear trees. Much like the one I had at the Bluebird estate, they never get very soft and don’t have much sweetness like a “storebought” pear, but are supposed to be good for jelly and jam. I was also going to take a few peaches from that 10th St. tree as I left the orafice yesterday and completely forgot.

  12. Barb says:

this is a crazy couple month for us – Allan will be gone on Freedom Ride 2011 from Friday 8/26 until I’d guess 9/12 or so. (feel free to check out ther crappy website http://www.freedomride2011.com/ It doesn’t really have much info IMHO)

Sept 24-25 & the next free weekend for us both.

  13. Barb says:

oh, and don’t get any crazy ideas, Allan is the mechanic & the medic for this trip (I hope these guys have trained enough to ride 100 miles a day for two weeks straight). And – so far I haven’t heard anything about him administering the blood doping either.

  14. Steve, I could do Labor Day weekend unless a family matter arises.

  15. Vic says:

We got a full day (starting about 11:00am) LivingSocial coupon. I’ll smile at your camera if I see you!
