My Life Should Be A Country Song

Without losing my woman… because I can’t get a woman.

Today’s Personal Project
Find a reason that I shouldn’t just break down today.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Strengthen your legs and core with a kneeling plank pose.

This pose calls on the large muscles of your legs as well as the power of your core! A strong core helps you maintain balance and stability, aids with posture and maintaining a healthy back, and makes everyday activities easier.

A Seriously Unfunny Thing Happened On The Way To The Dentist
This morning I had a 10am dental appointment to investigate the nerve associated with the tooth which has been ailing me to see whether or not I need a root canal (read: “When I need to get a root canal for this tooth”).

In this crummy weather I made my way to vote this morning, leaving me with plenty of time to spare to make it to my dentist’s office in Marietta. I made it as far as two blocks north of I-20 on Clifton Road when I went over a speed hump; immediately the TCS and Check Engine lights came on, and the D (for Drive) started flashing green. I’ve seen this happen before — when I was in Boulder Colorado two years ago and my transmission needed to be replaced, at what seems to be a substantially inflated cost. The only difference this time is that the car didn’t buck a few times as it did in Boulder, but I did just go over a speed hump so that may have changed the dynamics.

I’ve called my dentist and canceled my appointment (which is far from a “solution” since I still need to have this tooth/root checked out), and because the car still drove I managed to limp back to the house. I’ve started the car again in my carport and the Check Engine light comes back on, though the TCS and flashing D have gone away.

I’m sure that the transmission is still under warranty — at a mechanic two-thirds of a country away!

Dare I drive the car up to Peach Auto today, in the rain, after waiting for traffic to subside? I might. I am a current AAA member so I can always call them to tow me the rest of the way if the Jackmobile dies along the way. Before I do I’ll need to clean out everything from the trunk, glovebox, and center console, just in case I need to leave it for awhile (or, get rid of it for a car which is reliable).

My house is chilly right now, but I dare not tempt fate by turning on the heat for the first time this season. With the way my luck has been recently for most of my life it’s bound to break today.

FML.

Is Camping Now Out Of The Question?
Now that I am unsure of my mobility I might have to back out of camping this weekend. I suppose that I could rent a car for a week, which is the most-likely outcome of today’s new problem, because I cannot fathom making a knee-jerk reaction and buying a new car at this time.

Well crap!! When you went over the speed bump, did you drag or make contact? Is there anything leaking? Is the car running oddly in any other way?

  2. Also in my car today are two bags of laundry… something else that I was planning on taking care of today.

  3. I went over the hump at a slower-than-normal-but-not-exactly-slow speed. I didn’t hear any sounds or feel indications that I made contact. There doesn’t appear to be any pooling of fluids other than water from the rain and a bit of air-conditioner condensation that I normally see.

The car seemed to drive “normally” but admittedly I was super-cautious in order to make an attempt to get the car back home.

  4. Martha says:

It might be something as simple as some loose wires (especially since most of the warning lights went off, fingers crossed)…if you don’t want to drive up to Lam’s, Ride On has always been good to us. Jerry’s pretty tight with the owner, Chris. There is also a nice, new Laundromat on Dekalb Ave (not far from Ride On), two birds, one stone as the saying goes. Might as well wait to find out what is really wrong before you step out onto the ledge.

I made it my polling place by 7:05, the line was long but moved quickly. I was done by 7:40. However, my feet still seem cold (and maybe a little damp). All that is left to do is sit back and wait…and try not to start anymore facebook fights 🙂

  5. Martha says:

Oh and everything from where you discuss cleaning out the car is in italics…

  6. Ha, I thought that the comments looked funny but I didn’t investigate why. Thanks.

    Ah, that’s better. 😉

  7. I plan to get a diagnosis done before buying a new car. I am looking into renting a car for the next week since I have soooo much going on between now and next Wednesday.

When I have transportation I need to reschedule my dental appointment.

  8. Steve says:

    I kinda liked the Italics..

If you’re not leaking (I mean the CAR) then I’m with Martha and you might have just pulled something loose. Wait until it stops raining and take it to Lam’s.

  9. bob says:

Your car has caused so much drama in your life I think it is time to dump it. Now is a good time to shop for a 2012 model car since the 2013 models are coming in. You save money for rainy days, this looks like a good rainy day to use some of those funds 🙂 My 2 cents.

  10. I’m about to start the journey… Ooooh, that sounds so spiritual.

  11. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Car made it to Lam’s. If not for check engine light, I would not know anything was wrong.
I was going to eat lunch, but have decided to walk to Marta station instead.

  12. I just “GMaps Pedometer”ed the distance from Lam’s to Marta — about 1.3 miles.

Still waiting to hear what they think is wrong. And, I’m still carless so I don’t know what I am going to do if they can’t look at, or fix it, today (which I deem to be unlikely).

  13. Martha says:

I came home after my doctor’s appointment, if you need a ride just call me on my BB (4.226.1195).

  14. Barb says:

I need to go over to Lam’s – was thinking about it tomorrow at lunch time.
I got the shocks & struts done a while back, & now just recently it sounds like something is loose. Harry thinks it should be an easy fix, so I might go get a taco or something for lunch tomorrow & have them check it out.

hopefully it isn’t that big of a deal, and I want a new car bad!!!!

  15. Steve says:

I hear Paulie might have one for sale!! 🙂

  16. Barb says:

Steve – emphasis on NEW. I got an old honda already.

  17. HA!

I’ve not heard back from Lam yet so I just rented a car (a Chevy Minamo, or something compact like that…) from Hertz until next Wednesday. Let’s see if I can keep this one from getting keyed.

Why so long? It was only about twice as much to rent for eight days as it was for two! And, unless it’s a super-easy fix for the Jackmobile Lam will have to keep the car at least two days (and I’m heading out of town Friday).

If I have to get a new car its nickname will be “MacBook Retina” since it will be what replaced my purchase of a MacBook Retina this year (not to mention what ever money I will have to spend for the root canal).

Anyone want to buy a (my) house?

  18. Barb says:

I have a $25 credit from Hertz for compensation for AWFUL customer service in Phoenix- I wonder if you can use it?

  19. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Rats, wish I knew that… The place I walked to in order to get the car (a Mazda 3) gave me decent service.

  20. Barb says:

did you prepay it? maybe you can turn it in after the fact.
