Four More

Wait, Election Day was yesterday?

That’s about the extent of the political banter you’ll find on this blog. If you are expecting more then you best move along.

Today’s Personal Project
Speaking of moving along, it’s time for me to start making some significant changes in my life. (Yes, I know that this is not the first time that sentiment has been expressed in this blog.)

Today’s Daily Challenge
Put the healthy foods in your fridge in an easy-to-reach spot.

Out of sight, out of mind applies to food! Studies show that you’re more likely to eat foods that are in your line of sight and not tucked away. In other words, if you open the refrigerator and see high-fat or sugary snack foods and drinks, you’ll reach for those first. But if the first foods you see are fruits, veggies, juices, and other nutritious snacks, you’ll go for those.

The beer is right up front, what more do you expect from me?

All Precincts Have Yet To Be Tallied
I heard from Harry at Peach Auto yesterday. “The code suggests that the transmission is starting to fail. It seemed to shift hard from third to fourth. Have you noticed this?” My ability to adjust (see also: shit, far too many to list) probably means that I come to feel this “hard shifting” as normal. Harry said that they would run more tests on the car today and let me know.

I already know. That over-priced rebuilt transmission that I purchased two years ago is already starting to shit the bed.

Good things which arose from yesterday’s debacle

  1. I don’t have to get a root canal… at least not until I can reschedule yesterday’s dental appointment.
  2. I walked a 1.5 miles or so, comprised of the distant from Peach Auto to the Chamblee Marta station and from my office to the Hertz rental car agency near it.
  3. I stumbled upon an old hash trail, as you do, and took this photo.
    Everywhere You Go In Atlanta
This “on over” confirmed my suspicion that the three white marks that I had seen near it were indeed part of a trail. And from the location of this “on over” I can only surmise that this trail ended at Robin Red Breast’s house.
  4. I’m getting to test drive a Mazda 3 for the next week. Sure, it’s a rental so I’m actually paying to test drive it, but I’m getting away from the Jackmobile for a week.

The Mazda 3 Carries Dirty Laundry Well
I’ll be driving the rental to the lavanderia tonight (and parking it in a place where no one will run into it) in order to get all of my laundry done tonight.

Camping Is On Again, Now With 100% Less “Bringing My Bicycle”
Now that I have a means of transportation for this weekend I plan to attend the FDR camping trip. Of course this now means that I need to do some grocery shopping, to pick up the items I need to bring with me, after doing laundry. I suppose that I could try to wedge a grocery store trip in tomorrow, but I hate waiting until the last minute.

Because the rental car doesn’t have my bike rack on it, and I don’t want to try and fit the bike into the car, or try to work out arrangements for someone else to tote my bike, I’ve decided to leave my bicycle at home for this trip. It’s always something in my life…

Huh, that sounds familiar. No, I don’t own that domain name but I can point you at one I have with which I’ve done nothing — Drinkmas.

– Completely read ten books, audio books permissible
– Run Sharpened Stone as a real business
– Save $500 for the sole purpose of donating to charitable organizations of my choice

– Restore the ITP Estate to a condition where it can be put up for sale at any time
– Buy a new iPhone (iPhone 5), a new iPad (iPad 3?), and MacBook Air [look, not all goals have to be altruistic]

The Unmeasurable
– Continue backing up all data, including the off-site storage
– Become a proficient and profitable programmer in Objective-C
– Do not create a solution for something which is not a problem
– Eat smaller portions
– Start, and continue, to make my own bread using my bread machine as well as using the technique outlined in Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking

Well, I hope the problems wiith the car wait until such time as you are ready to go shopping. I can endorse the Mazda 3- mine does very well, can carry a bike with relative ease, is sporty (for me) and is reasonably efficient. I understand the newer models are even more thrifty on gas.

I’m glad that the political ads and associated crap will be off the air for a while.

From CNN on tweets from last night- Colorado has leagalized marijuana- apparently a mile high wasn’t high enough…

  2. Thanks. I have a feeling that I will be shopping for a new ride very soon; it’s just the way things seem to go in my life. Even if the repair is “only” $1000 that’s bordering on paying too much to have the car repaired since there are at least two other issues that I know that it has. As is I’ll probably be dropping $200 to have the investigative work done, and the rental is costing me about $225 (total, with the $85 in taxes and fees added in, and the $35 promo code taken out).

The Mazda 3 is interesting, though I’m not sure that it’s the car for me. Of course it’s been a few years since I’ve priced cars, so I’m certain that there are far more “cars for me” which are more than I care to spare (and insure in 30316) than not.

  3. Martha says:

Well if you want to take the bike, just let me know. I’m not taking mine but the bike rack is on the car (however, I probably wont be there until Saturday afternoon). On a similar topic would you be able to transport some equipment on Friday, I offered my campstove/coffee maker to the group to use.

I think it’s time for a new(er) car, you’ve spent far too much time, energy and money on the one you have. I think it will lessen your stress level considerably once you move on.

I still get such a kick when I come across evidence (or the actual) hash. We were driving to C&S on Saturday when I noticed a handful of white folks heading into Tressel Tree, I was think why would they be doing that, then I realized it was TV Hare, Ouch and Tripod…

I stayed up way too late last night watching election results. I blew off my running partner this morning and I’m dragging. It’s going to be a long day at the office. I’d go home but I blew off work yesterday after my doctor appointment (Dr Sadri got my ankle to finally pop, wow!! I can’t wait for him to do it again Friday) 🙂

  4. I’ll certainly take your stuff down. If you put the stuff by the kitchen door I’ll put it into the Mazda.

  5. Barb says:

bummer on the car – I’m probably going to Peach Auto today (or tomorrow) at lunch – I’ve got a few “weird” noise that has started since the shocks & struts were done. Harry thinks he knows what it is, but they have to look at it be sure. Hopefully it won’t cost much.

  6. Got a voicemail from Harry, haven’t been able to call back. He said “he might have some good news”, not sure what that means until I can call.

  7. Steve says:

    Lazarus? Is that you, Lazarus?

  8. bob says:

Well it looks like they will total Laura’s car. So now we will begin shopping.
Paul and Barb, maybe we can all go together and get a 3 car discount?

  9. Barb says:

sounds like a plan Bob – I want a small SUV again. haven’t really decided on which one at all – I need to go test drive to see what feels good (and has cup holders in the proper places)

  10. Can we find a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” deal? 😀

Peach Auto thinks it might just be a stuck sensor. They have ordered another and will replace the one in the Jackmobile. We’ll see…

  11. Steve says:

    Good news Paulie!!

You know, I think if the 3 of you walked into a dealership with your financing all set, they would HAVE to give you a deal. And a good one, too.

Consider they won’t be giving you much more than lowest wholesale on the trade in anyway…
