It Is Alive!

The app on which I’ve been toiling for two years is in the iOS App Store!

Reality

I wouldn’t advise downloading it yet however because the app relies on you having a DISH “Hopper with Sling” (aka “XiP913”) settop box. And since that doesn’t get released until today as well the app is useless. Silly marketing people…

Today’s Personal Project
Get my physical this morning.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Plan a meal with friends or as a family.

Making time for meals with people you care about can be a treat! It gives you an emotional boost and renews your energy for your normal routine. Although meals with friends and family may be a challenge to arrange, the benefits range from a stronger sense of togetherness to healthier eating habits.

Well, I do have plans to get together with ITP-Reader Betsy tonight to eat dinner and watch some Top Chef.

Ooooh That’s Cold!
In an effort to make this LA Fitness membership pay off I returned to the gym yesterday. After doing twenty minutes on a stationary bike I wandered around the gym seeking out exercises that I was to perform. [note to self: get your old workout routines written down (since there is no way to get that information off of the Palm Pilot on which they were previously recorded)] In the end I think I pushed myself sufficiently hard for one morning.

As I had been warned the club was still without hot water. I could have done what I did on Monday, drive my sweaty self to the office and shower there, but instead I decided to “toughen up” and take a quick, cold shower. Cold it was. Oooh, I don’t look forward to doing that again any time soon.

The Sandy Springs/Dunwoody club is not expected to have hot water again until tomorrow, and since I don’t have complete faith that they will get their plumbing fixed on a given schedule (a subject in which I am an expert!) I think that I will use the flexibility my membership affords me and visit a different club for tomorrow’s scheduled workout.

And Just Like That I Booked A Ticket
To Raleigh, NC for a February weekend.

Once again I will have to recuse myself from attending NC State’s Career Fair so I’ve been discussing visiting the Raleigh Royalty on their home turf for a few weeks and we’ve bantered about dates. Yesterday while surfing the internets during a dull spot in my five-hour meeting I pulled up Kayak looking at the cost of flights. After one failed attempt at using Delta‘s website to book a ticket, I secured round-trip travel for the half-decent price of $166 US dollars.

Interestingly, the Clermont Lounge and I are the same age.

A Third Wednesday It Was
I sauntered into George’s Bar a little after 7pm last night. I happened upon ITP-Reader Steve sitting at a booth so I joined him. At George’s I consumed a couple of Sierra Nevada pints and a burger with fries as I scanned the establishment for those I know and those I’d like to know better (the back end of George’s on Wednesday is no longer the mass of sweaty hasher-types like it was a dozen years ago).

The evening was much fun as I got to see a few friends that I don’t see all that often any longer, and our table chatted and joked about the upcoming “tell all” interview that Lance Armstrong had with Oprah Winfrey this week.

I’m Going To Be Ready To Eat
In preparation for today’s physical I was instructed not to eat or drink anything (other than water) starting at midnight last night. It’s now a little after 6am and I’m already a bit hungry — and my physical is not for another four hours. Ugh.

I think it might be time to go fill my stomach with a glass of water.

A small crowd for the 3rd Wed get together, I thought. Semi-crappy weather surely played a role. Scared Barb off for sure.

I’m looking forward to a 4 day weekend and need it badly as my network conversion is finally done tomorrow. This has been a ton of additional work and getting to “know” new processes and engineers. What I’ve learned is everyone who needed to be at the table wasn’t, and caused more work for the rest of us. Just glad it’s over.

I’m toying with the idea of going to Louisville in 2 weeks for Cyclocross World Championships. Event tickets are cheap for the weekend, the drive isn’t too bad, as long as the weather is OK. Don’t have any idea on where to stay.. but still might go.

    Enjoy the blizzard tonight!!

  2. Barb says:

Congrats on the app being available!!!

Did everyone go to the store to get their bread, eggs & milk? The weatherman cracks me up, I jsut don’t see how the ground can be cold enough for any snow to actually stick if it does happen.

Yep – if JoAnna would have gone, we mgiht have braved the crappy weather & traffic, but she bailed on me. I stayed home, worked on the Chromebook, sending messages to people my mom knows thru her new Facebook page (LOL), I think I know it as well as I can, and when they call me, I’ll have no idea & tell them to call their new best friends at the Geek Squad. Its a pretty cool little computer, that will work great for what they need – I do have to thank Steve for telling me about it.

Steve – I’m not sure , but TJ may be in Louisville, he’s been working lots of cyclecross races this year – contact him, maybe you can be his roomie? Hell – maybe you can carpool?

  3. Steve says:

I thought about that, but didn’t want to get in his way. I have an officiating friend who lives there, but I’d expect she already has a housefull and don’t want to impose.

Wheelhopper Sunday, right? And then the Falcons play. Barb, is there anything happening at the Garage Mahal?

  4. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

My boss, who is in Denver today, called me this morning and asked me about the app. He asked me to look at something and was shocked when I told him that I was still in bed (at 8:00am). I had to remind him of my physical today. It’s a god thing I didn’t try to go to work first, EAV to VaHi took twenty minutes by car this morning — and that’s with me knowing the “shortcuts.”

  5. Barb says:

Blowing off Wheelhopper (even though yes Bob, I know they moved the start time up, but I’m in terrible bike riding shape right now)

Yes Steve – we will be watching the game at the house. Got a couple friends coming over (Paulie included I think). If the weather cooperates, we hope to try watching outside. You & Debbie feel like roadtripping north?

  6. Steve says:

If I made the trip, I’d want the whole WH, Garage Mahal experience- I don’t think I could talk Debbie into that.

  7. Barb says:

Debbie can come hang with me at the house……

  8. Steve says:

Oh… now that is an option I hadn’t thought of.

  9. Stacy says:

Congratulations on your Go Live, Paulie! What an awesome achievement – you should be very proud!

As for the photo… I’m trying to figure out exactly where that is and can’t for the life of me! I mean, yes, I’ve been to the Clermont plenty of times and I’m in that area a lot (Murder Kroger is right there). But I don’t remember the back looking like this! Is this in the parking lot?

  10. Steve says:

Barb, I forgot Debbie has a saddle fitter coming over Sunday, so it would just be me. But if Allan is going, I could ride with him.

  11. Barb says:

I don’t know what Allan is planning, he works Saturday, so Sunday (in this case morning for Wheelhopper) is always up in the air. If he gets sleep, he may go, or may decide to be lazy. I can not predict it.

A Saddle fitter? Don’t you already have saddles that fit? or do they need to be fit to the individual horse? I”m learning something new here.

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I will be there on Sunday for the football game after getting my photo nerd on.

That photo was taken in the rear parking lot; it’s distorted because I used the iPhone 5’s panorama mode.

  13. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

And I think Little Easy’s birthday party is Saturday night. If so, I plan to be in attendance.

  14. Barb says:

yes -the Little Easy party is saturday night. No idea what to take, I’m not the huge Cajun fan, so I’ll come up with something a little more mainstream.

  15. Ronnie AKA Bill says:

Congrats on the App passing Apples’ inspection.
As for COLD showers at LA Fitness, ask to be comped one month extra membership for your trouble. It might work but you won’t know unless you ask.

  16. Debbie says:

Saddles have to be fitted to individual horses; I’m hoping my current saddles can be adjusted to fit the new horse. The saddles are stuffed with wool so it can be moved around, added or removed to make it fit the shape of the horse’s back.

Paulie are you bringing your world famous jambalya (to lazy to google how to spell that) on Saturday? I might attempt red beans and rice and a big pan of cornbread.

I may be up for the Falcons game portion of Sunday afternoon, but will have to play it by ear. What would you like us to bring?

  17. bob says:

“Interestingly, the Clermont Lounge and I are the same age.”

The dancers have been around since before any of us were born too 🙂

Sunday’s wheelhopper will not be for the faint of heart but we will still get a crowd. Hell We had 10 show up for the Alpharetta slop fest last month. We’ll get done early enough for people to get to their football viewing parties. Tell Allan to come on out!

  18. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Good idea, Ronnie.

Debbie, I intend to make my Jambalaya, even though I have done so in a while.

  19. Barb says:

Debbie- as for some Falcon watching food, I have no idea what we are thinking yet. I do have some cheese curds that were left over at Chedarhead, if we felt like getting out the fryer (I don’t know about that). We might do some wings, might do some chili, might do some brats, who knows?

  20. Steve says:

“Not for the faint of heart”? You’re not selling me here. If Debbie really wants to come watch the Falcons, I may just ride at home and come up for the par-tay.

  21. bob says:

Steve, Coach C has promised a great trail. I believe it will be a great trail too. However, since it has been raining for a week I’m sure it will be a tad muddy.

  22. Steve says:

Like saying the Titanic was a bit damp.

  23. Randy says:

Congrats on the App availability! I know it’s been a long road.

Looking forward to hanging out in February.
