Still Battling

After leaving work last night I knew there was no way I could, or should, head to LA Fitness for a workout. Instead I decided to checkout my other Super Bowl gambling effort at Smith’s Olde Bar where I plunked down $10 last Thursday for two squares while drinking. When I arrived I was surprised to see the Super Bowl squares sheets already taken down. Since I never received a call from the bar I assumed that I was not a winner — note to self: don’t gamble while drinking! I inquired about the squares and was told I wasn’t a winner (could have been worse, I could have been told that I was a loser). Since I was already at Smith’s I decided to eat some dinner. The bartender must have known that I should not be drinking alcohol since she never asked if I wanted anything other than water with my delicious hamburger which was topped with beef brisket.

I spent the night feeling miserably, sneezing and coughing. I managed to fall asleep fairly early, but awoke at 3:00am and was up for some time before taking short catnaps prior to getting ready for work.

Today’s Personal Project
Get some organization back in my life.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Eat one food that contains Omega-6 fatty acids, such as walnuts, canola or vegetable oil, or tofu.

Omega-6 fatty acids are essential nutrients that lower LDL (or “bad”) cholesterol. Foods that contain these nutrients help to reduce inflammation in the body and help protect against heart disease.

Don’t know what I’m doing about food today. Honestly, I’m so disgusted with myself these days I think food should be the last thing I consider.

Thinking Small
One of the benefits of returning to the office yesterday was taking possession of the two packages which were delivered for me while I was out on vacation (I never deliver anything to my house). Yesterday I received

  • An infrared remote for my Nikon 1 V1
  • A set of filters which fit the kit lens delivered with the Nikon 1 V1
  • An adapter that will allow me to attach my current Nikon-compatible lenses to the Nikon 1 V1 (though I now realize that this adapter was so cheap because it can’t perform any of the auto-focusing that the real Nikon adapter can)

I’m looking forward to playing with these additions to my Nikon 1 V1 toolbox. Hell, maybe I’ll once again have a sufficient backlog of photos so that this blog doesn’t go dry again.

ITP Flickr Pic
While Tamara was in town I pulled out this photo of the old gang.
Friends
The original photo was taken at my first Halloween party in 1999, about six months after I moved to East Atlanta. Most of these people still live in Atlanta, but circumstances (parenthood) have changed the dynamics of the group.

So Many Shitheads In This World
As I sat in the Jackmobile warming it up this morning I saw a black SUV drive down my street. As it passed my house I noticed that the passenger window was open, and the driver launched something onto my lawn. At first I thought this was some sort of flyer/newspaper, but then realized that none of the other neighbors were getting one.

I drove to the end of my driveway to discover that the driver had jettisoned an empty Budweiser can onto my lawn. Jesus H., it’s bad enough that people litter, this shithead didn’t even have the decency to throw a quality beer can onto my lawn.

Add another notch to the “I really need to move somewhere else” column…

I Plan To Be A Loser Starting Friday
At work we will be starting another “Biggest Loser” competition at work. The competition will be based on weight-loss percentage instead of pounds lost. I’m signing up to see if this competition will help me finally shave off the twenty pounds (nearly 10%) of my weight.

Stats & Goals
Daily
Current Mood – hungry, tired, still fighting off this cold
Current Music – listening to a “R3-30” podcast from CBC Radio 3

Mode Of Transportation To Work – my car
Exercise (b)Log – nothing
Morning Weigh-In – checking again Friday

Monthly
Foot Mileage – ~2.5 miles
Wheel Mileage – 0.0 miles
Gym Visits – 1

Days Of Bed-Making – 0

Vegetarian Meals – 5
Carnivorous Meals – 5

– read at least one book
– dissolve Sharpened Stone, LLC
– take at least one box of things to Goodwill
– post at least ten photos in the blog

  1. Steve says:

A quiet day all around yesterday. The only excitement (if you can call it that) was the late train to 5 points where I catch my bus home. I knew I was cutting it close, and saw a bus pulling out as I emerged from the station. I caught up and could see it was indeed my bus, just as the light turned green for him to proceed down Forsyth St. and the race was on. Running almost full speed without warmup and dragging your laptop case is not great training for anything, but I caught him, which saved me 20 minutes until the next bus.

Have you tried the pre-cooked chicken pieces (I think it’s a Purdue product)? I made tacos last night using them- all they really needed was heating, as they are already cut up like you’d put in a salad. Pretty tasty and very handy.

    Hope you feel better.

  2. Exciting indeed!

No, I’ve not heard of those. I do plan to reintroduce cooking (chicken and such) into my life soon.

I just realized that today is the sixteenth anniversary of my official start date at Echostar (well, Media4, which was bought by Echostar in 1999). It’s my “official” start date because I contracted for three months prior to becoming a full-time employee.

  3. Steve says:

I have the same problem- I was a contractor for a couple years before being hired full time. It will be 18 years in May. Where has the time gone!?!

  4. Andrew says:

A shithead in an SUV? Say it isn’t so!

  5. ’tis true! I only mentioned the SUV since I thought the person was delivering papers/flyers. I usually get one of those Savvy Shopper things which go straight into the recycling bin about once a week.

  6. Martha says:

Hey now, I happen to know a SUV driver that picks up litter when she is out running.

Better than the pre-cooked chicken, just cook a whole chicken (or several bone-in breasts) or a pot roast on Sunday then you have stuff for the entire week. I usually cook on Sunday, that’s my lunch for Monday and Tuesday, then again on Wednesday (my telecommute day) so I have lunch for Thursday and Friday. I have to pack it up quick, before Jerry eats it all…

I had a special surprise delivered last week. I ordered two pair of shoes, a few days later I got an email saying they had to cancel my order because they were out of stock. Oh well, I guess I didn’t need the shoes anyway…well a couple of days later I came home to a box on the door step, yep the two pair of shoes!!! Bonus, they have already refunded the money back to my credit card. Free shoes, really what could be better!

I mailed off my rego to BRAG spring tune up yesterday, I’m pretty excited!!

  7. Steve says:

    Free shoes? That’s just crazy.

I haven’t convinced Debbie that she wants to celebrate our anniversary at the Spring Tune Up… I’m not really trying though.

  8. Barb says:

Some on Debbie – we are celebrating our anniversary at BRAG Spring Tune Up – you should too!
    I’m mailing our regos today.

Hot tub is finally fixed – Allan had to break down & call a hot tub guy, we needed a new heater! $400 later – it works.

I might be buying a Subaru tonight, we are heading back to test drive again & see what kind of deals they will give us. Can’t decide yet between the Forester & the Crosstrek. I’ve got my IMBA discount ppwk, not sure if that will give me a better deal or not.

  9. Unfortunately Spring Tune Up is when Ira Glass is in town. I hope by that time to have an intelligent, attractive woman as my date, or to meet one there.

  10. Subaru? Does Lam work on those? 🙂 Actually, I’ll be interested to hear how you like whatever you get — since I may be in the market for a new vehicle this year (assuming the house doesn’t cost me both arms and legs).

  11. Today is also National Pancake Day? Wow, if only I were trying to eat more pancakes still…

  12. Stacy says:

If you were trying to eat more pancakes still, you could even go to iHop for free ones! http://www.ihoppancakeday.com/pancake-day-details.html Of course, I’m not sure there is an ounce of nutritional value in a pancake.

But you know, don’t discount those Savvy Shopper things so quickly! I have found many a coupon for my area at places I actually frequented already. (Such as $10 off $20 at Midtown Tavern or whatnot.) They ALWAYS have restaurant discounts for places in Little Five. Not that you’re hurting on money or anything…but shoot, if you’re going there anyway, why not use a coupon?

  13. Barb says:

Paulie – not sure if I get a new car if I will continue to roadtrip over to see Lam. I will feel so guilty, but we will still keep the CRV, so he will still keep working on that, but it is so not on the way to his shop anymore.

I’ve always liked the Subaru, and their prices seem pretty in line. The CRV has gotten a little too expensive for me – a new one is around $30,000 now. The Toyota Rav4 didn’t thrill me. And – Allan being Mr. consumer Reports believer only gave me these 3 choices (and we thru in the Crosstrek to the mix after we got to teh subaru dealership)

And – you can go see a concert any ngiht, you can’t go camping with a bunch of crazy folks in Madison GA very often.

Martha – are you going to camp & everything with us?
We are hoping to go early enough to ride friday, it may just be the ride for a Pimento Cheese Sandwich with the Roadkill guys, but it will be something.
I’m planning on the 67 on Saturday, I hope I can ride enough to be in shape for that.

  14. Stacy, I’m cheap — I’m always hurting for money. 😉

  15. Martha says:

Yes Barb, I’m planning on camping, riding, maybe even a little drinking 🙂

Don’t know if I’ll be there all 3 days (will probably wait to see what everyone else is doing) but for sure Saturday (67 also) and Sunday (not sure yet).

I feel bad about not going to Lam (we even got a christmas card from him this year) any more also but it’s no where near us and we found a great guy just up the road (who’s also big into Jeep’s which is enough for Jerry).

  16. Jenka says:

    IRA GLASS?! Where and when?!

Martha, is Ride On still there with all the Habitat for Humanity construction going on?

  17. Ira Glass will be speaking at the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech on April 6, at 8:00pm.

  18. And if I can find my tickets (yes, plural, I was being optimistic)…. I will be there.

  19. Martha says:

Ride On move further up Chester awhile back, as far as I know the construction shouldn’t bother them….
