Quick Blast

Combine a super-packed schedule with a late night and an inability to get out of bed and you get today’s “Quick Blast” blog.

Today’s Personal Project
Not to get overwhelmed by the stuff I have scheduled today.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Pledge to focus on a point about 10 feet (3m) in front of you the next time you take a walk.

Sure, you’ve got the walking thing down รขโ‚ฌโ€œ you’ve been doing it for years! However, some longtime habits can change your walking form, and looking down at the ground right in front of you is one of them. By reminding yourself to focus your gaze a little farther out, you’ll keep your neck more in line with your spine as you move. Bonus: You may see things you wouldn’t have otherwise!

Interesting take.

I Think That I Am Trying To Kill Myself
By trying to make myself healthier.

I waited at work until a little after 6:15pm before making my way over to LA Fitness. When I arrived it was predictably crowded, but getting a workout in seemed more plausible than it did two nights ago. For the better part of the night I lucked into open machinery/apparatuses as I worked my way around the gym.

My warmup job of ten minutes was done at a slightly faster pace than usual (6.5mph) so I was not overly concerned when my side started hurting about eight minutes in. “Toughen up!” I told myself (internally of course because speaking to yourself aloud in public is craziness). All workout long my side continued to bother me, I think I may have strained a muscle, or, I am in the early stages of a heart attack…

My boss was also at the gym last night so we naturally decided to ruin our hard work with a beverage or two. “Taco Mac?” you ask? No, I chose to take us down a different route by walking over to Tilted Kilt afterwards, where I had to (imperial) pints of beer with a salad which had four minuscule chicken tenders on it. Yeah, I know…

I made it home by 10:30pm, sadly with no desire to go back out to The EARL for the Caitlin Rose show. I was pooped.

Ha! I’ve become a joke…

And On The Fourth Day I Rested
A later-than-normal workout, followed by impurities, followed by little sleep, convinced me to skip my morning run workout today in lieu of getting more sleep instead.

My penance for this decision will be a Saturday trip to LA Fitness to either run/cycle or lift weights, depending on which one I manage to do tomorrow morning.

In Case You Missed It
While I didn’t make it to The Shed last night I did manage to reserve a space in the May 18th wine class via email. Yeah, it’s $50, but I think it will be a good time (food is paired with each wine I am to understand).

Do it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

At least you worked out & then went & ate & drank, it is better than just going eating & drinking.

I did something “crazy” last night, I decided to walk to the grocery store. I only needed 2 items, that would be small enough to carry. It was finally a nice night, its only 1.5 miles to the Publix, Allan had to study for this class he is taking, I couldn’t come up with any excuses not to walk. One of the 2 items was some pineapple juice (I’m making something called Hawaiian chicken tonight for dinner.) I learned that it only comes in one size, well, that I could find, and its a big 46 oz can. A little heavier than I planned on carrying, so I told myself I’d get a little arm workout on the way home!
I’ll let you know tomorrow if this recipe is any good.

  2. Steve says:

38 minutes on the slightly modified Lullwater course last night, but my tendonitis is feeling it today. Prior to that, a trip to my dentist where he attempted to remove a loose bridge. He literally tied dental floss around it and tried to pull it out, but was unsuccessful. His prescription- candy!! Especially caramel and soft things like that- which I have removed crowns with in the past (not on purpose).

Barb, do you have a health update on JoAnna?

    -FP

  3. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

What happened to JoAnna? I know, it is probably all over FB but we all know that I am not.

  4. Barb says:

I lost my crown once with a Tootsie Roll, or try a Sugar Daddy – those scare me with their stickiness, that could do it too.

    JoAnna is doing fine.
Paulie, she went into Atrial Fib.. (I can’t spell it) at a race up in Chattanooga on Saturday. Basically collapsed at teh finish line. Spent a couple days in the hospital trying to get her heart to go back to normal rhythym with some meds, thought they were going to have to shock it, but it finally converted monday morning. She just basically has to be careful, take it easy, don’t push too hard when exercising. There will be some follow up visits of course, but this isn’t something totally out of the ordinary, it happens to people that are healthy. Allan was telling me more about it, and she did too, we had lunch yesterday.
Allan likes to joke with her that it is the lack of carbs in her diet.

  5. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Oh wow, that’s scary regardless. it’s the type of shit that I worry about as I return to exercising. Glad to hear that she’ll be alright.

  6. Martha says:

Oh Steve, that made me cringe…

I’m at the office today, just for a couple of more hours. A presentation at noon, then I’m out the door and heading south.

I read about JoAnna yesterday, very scary, she’s younger than me (or I??)

Last time I walked to the store was during Snowmagedon (sp?) 2011…I usually hit it on my way home from work or I’m buying too much to bring home, but it would be nice to do it more often.

  7. Barb says:

Martha – I was going to stop at the store on my way home & forgot. So, since the car was in the garage, and I was thinking I should go outside & walk or ride anyway, figured why not?

  8. Martha says:

Paulie (you may already be aware) but the blog was down for several hours yesterday…it was all over FB ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yeah, I found out that it was down, and then saw that my host was having major difficulties. I am just glad to have it back so that I don’t have to deactivate my FB account. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  10. Steve says:

Yeah, I have to say it was a suprise to hear about JoAnna. Probably one of the more fit people I know (not including Sal). Barb, do you know if there is any heart disease in the fam?

Martha, I was suprised the dentist didn’t have something better to remove it. In the meantime, they suggested a water pick to make sure I clean it well- make sure nothing gets under it and stays to cause trouble.

  11. I’ve been considering getting a stress-test done on my heart. I was (sort of) diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat when I was 35, and for the last month I’ve been having mysterious pain. I chalked it up to the flu/bronchitis, but now I am not so sure.

  12. Jenka says:

In the Website of the Day is says, “like” instead of “link.” Also, what’s a
    “sup-packed schedule”?

Not sure if you heard, but they’re doing away with Slider Night as of next month. It was really the previous chef’s idea, so the new chef is coming out with a fried chicken dinner instead. I was there last night, and I’m revising, tentatively, my opinion on the new bartender who replaced Mandy. Not only has she still not gotten the hang of it, but she also left early last night. Weird!

I’ve taken their wine classes before, they’re awesome! I may do the pinot noir one, don’t let me forget.

  13. Hehe, I wish I could say that I peppered the blog with grammatical errors just to see if you are still reading, but alas, those are honest mistakes. Thanks.

Doing away with Slider Night? In-con-ceivable! If you reserver a space I shan’t let you forget.
