Living On 1/4 Recharge

I was on a coding roll last night and combined with the fact that I didn’t get to speak to my mother until 11:00pm (she was out playing bingo) I was wired. I didn’t get tired and fall asleep until sometime past 12:00am, only to be wide awake and coding again around 2:30am. I coded until sometime near 4:15am when I decided I should attempt to get a bit of shuteye before my alarm clock sounded at 5:00am. I was in the office by 7:00am and I am unsure how I am going to stay alert today.

That’s a whole lotta fucking ams and not a whole lotta sleep.

Today’s Daily Challenge
Eat one food that contains vitamin D, such as yogurt, milk, fortified cereal, salmon, or tuna.

D is one dynamic vitamin: Studies show that it may help improve bone and muscle strength, play a part in controlling blood pressure, and lower the risk of colorectal cancer. Yet vitamin D deficiency is very common worldwide and most adults don’t get nearly enough each day. By digging into a D-rich food source, you help to get some of this important vitamin – and potentially reap its benefits.

If only beer contained Vitamin D, oh wait, I’m trying to abstain drinking during the week again… Bugger!

I Miss Drinking Beer Daily
I probably should abstain from alcohol for a week and return to my doctor for tests again, it’s just that I am afraid that I”ll find out that I have to give up drinking. I don’t smoke, I don’t do drugs, and I don’t have unprotected sex (or protected sex for that matter) :(, drinking is the only vice that I enjoy.

Last night, after mowing my lawn and waiting for what felt like an eternity to sync my 10,500 songs to my new iPod Classic I headed up to The Argosy for dinner. I’ve wanted to return to The Argosy but I’ve hesitated because I didn’t think that I could abstain from ordering beer. I managed last night and only drank a Coke and some water.

For my food I ordered an appetizer of three mini-sausages with mustard and pickles, and then the fried chicken sammich (their word, not mine) with fries for my entree. Both items were delicious. My only error of the evening was not being more patient to let the fried chicken cool a bit more before biting into it.

I’ve proven that I can eat out with out alcohol (sometimes). I shall return!

An Office A Day…
Last week The Office aired its 201st and final episode. On Saturday I started an undertaking to watch each episode, one a day, in order. If my, well Convert Units‘s, calculation is correct I will accomplish this feat on December 6th.

The best part about this undertaking is that since The Office was a network sitcom, an episode sans commercials only runs 21-22 minutes. It’s kinda scary that nearly one-third of prime time television is comprised of commercials.

ITP Flickr Pic
Nothing today, but if you are a Flickr user you should check out the major overhaul that occurred on that website yesterday.

Speaking of Flickr, they also announced their purchase of Tumblr for 1.1 BILLION dollars. The now 26-year-old founder of Tumblr is now a fucking rich man and he didn’t have to correctly guess six numbers to become one.

Waiting On My Warby’s
Last Friday I requested five pairs of eyeglass frames from Warby Parker using their “Home Try-On” service. I believe that these frames will be delivered either today or tomorrow, at which point I will have five days to decide whether or not I feel that any of the ones that I have chosen suit my face.

For shits and giggles I plan to set up a mini portrait studio at home and take my photo wearing each; if I do, pay attention to this space for the nerditude.

If my eyes are giving me accurate feedback I may also want to get a checkup prior to making my glasses order; things seem fuzzier than they ever have before..

I hate to say it but the soda is probably worse for you than the beer.

I started to watch the original ‘The Office’ two years ago when I was between jobs…I also wanted to watch all the classic Doctor Who. Far too ambitious of a goal for someone that can’t sit still for more than 30 minutes at a time.

I heard that the reason there are no more ‘theme songs’ for tv shows is that they are using that time now for more commericals.

  2. Soda is not good, but in regards to liver function I think it’s a better option than beer. Keep in mind that I am no doctor. 🙂 That being said, if I am not drinking beer (or coffee/tea) I should be drinking water.

I watched all of the original “The Office” prior to investing time in the American version — which I didn’t care for at first because I was trying to play it against the British version.

Interesting. With the exception of “Modern Family” I have not watched any weeknight prime time television in years.

I wish I could say we are in the same boat, but there are some shows we were late to the party on (Big Bang Theory) and some we were trailblazers on (Scandal). I can’t get Debbie sucked into the normal nerd TV I like, although she seemed to watch Brain Games last night.

The pool pump is once again apart and I’ll be doing a little plumbing redesign- when you install something, don’t you normally do so to allow access to all the moving parts? The idiots that plumbed this pump didn’t bother to allow space to actually remove the filter basket- you can take the lid off and clean it, but can’t lift it out and dump it. Morons.

There shall be lawn cutting in East Point tonight, then attempt to load said mower into the truck with recently made ramps. As we are sans a decent mower, we will be shuttling the mower back and forth to EP. At least that was the plan.

Watching the Giro just now- passed a school and they had a giant bike laid out with the kids making the wheels and chain.. very cute, although their bike was going backwards!!

I just watched the last 2 episodes of the Office, I hadn’t watched in years, so I didn’t quite understand all of what was going on. I’m glad they were able to end it their own way & not just get cancelled. I may have to watch someday those seasons in between.

I’m going to guess that drinking coke in the evening when you don’t usually drink caffiene might be why you weren’t tired? That, and whatever coding your brain was focused on. I’ve learned not to drink soda at night, I’ve cut it back to only drinking it at lunchtime, so if I ever have some in the evening, I totally don’t sleep well.

Does anyone here use Tumblr? I don’t know all that much about it, but just damn, 1.1 Billion.

  5. Martha says:

Actually, some of the current research is finding that HFCS directly interact with the liver (unlike glucose) and has been linked (not saying it causes) to excessive amounts of triglycerides and cholesterol being pumped out of your liver, insulin resistance and the development of fatty liver disease.

I think there is a lot more research to be done but I don’t see a down side to avoiding HFCS if possible. This is one of the reasons I don’t like to go out to eat much, I generally don’t want beer, wine or soda, and I feel cheap just drinking water…

I watch Big Bang Theory (love me some nerds) and Modern Family, Jerry loves Criminal Minds and SVU, I watch Doctor Who and Grimm. Most of the time I end up watching On Demand or Hulu because I can never remember when shows are actually on or they are on too late for me. I’ve watched one episode of Defiance but I don’t see me getting into it.

  6. I’ve never seemed to be adversely affected by caffeine. Normally I could drink Mountain Dew and go to sleep nearly immediately if I were tired.

I wish that I could remember to watch the Giro each day. Bugger.

  7. Barb says:

but Paulie – have you cut back on caffiene at all? Maybe now you are?

I do love Big Bang, it has gotten so much better as they keep adding more girls. Allan really likes Grimm, its a little weird for me, but I like it okay. I’ve started watching some other sit coms this year – The Neighbors is just so stupid it is hilarious, I like Last Man Standing because Tim Allen reminds me of how Allan would be as a parent. I never got on the Modern Family band wagon, mainly because Sofia Vergara (how every you spell it) bugs me. Its not that I dislike it, I just only watch it here & there. I’m thinking about getting on the Scandal bandwagon, gotta start streaming it from the beginning.

  8. Steve says:

I’ve tried to get on the Modern Family bandwagon, but there’s something about that style of humor that I just don’t get.

Paulie, I know that if I drink iced tea after about 6PM, I won’t go to sleep anytime soon.

  9. Andrew says:

I have a pair of Warby Parker glasses. First pair of ‘plastic’ glasses I’ve owned and probably the most comfortable.

  10. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

The frames have arrived. I need to find a mirror where no one is around to laugh.

  11. Barb says:

why don’t you have some co-workers help you decide on the glasses? You always say you need a girl to help, don’t you have some girls there?

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

    Already in progress

  13. Jenka says:

Okay, so this is late notice, but I’m having a Yay, Divorce! party at the Shed tonight at 7:00 pm if you’re interested. Our final divorce hearing was this morning, and I’m now officially single! Yay, Divorce! Heh.

Since I don’t have a TV anymore I only watch things on Hulu or Netflix. I recently OD-ed on Breaking Bad and Weeds. The only TV-only show I miss is The Amazing Race. Boo.

  14. Ah, but TAR was on CBS.com! I am watching “The Office” on Netflix and may try and watch the three seasons of “Arrested Development” there too.

Hmmm, you have tempted me to change my plans… I’m bugging out of the office at 4, I’ll decided my fate as I drive toward downtown.

  15. Jenka says:

Wait, are you saying I could’ve been watching TAR all this time?! DAMNATION. But thanks for the tip! BTW, Arrested Development is only going to be on Netflix, from what I understand. So you have no choice.
