I Knew More Things Could Go Wrong

When I started out for work yesterday the Jackmobile hesitated before starting its engine yesterday. It was a momentary hiccup that quickly righted itself.

Such was not the case when I attempted to leave work to go play racquetball. Each turn of the key produced nothing more than a loud click/pop from the engine cavity.

An effort was made to ensure that the battery cables were clean and intact. They were.
An effort was made to jump my car with another. This failed.

I then called AAA and an hour or so later a tow truck arrived. The mechanics attempted tapping the starter while trying to crank the engine, but that too produced no positive result.

After pushing the Jackmobile so that it was pointed down the first floor ramp of the parking garage, a mechanic drove it out of the parking garage as if it were a soapbox derby car and around a tricky s-curve, into the spacious parking lot. From there the Jackmobile was loaded onto a flatbed tow truck and shipped off to Lam’s.

I gave Peach Auto a head’s up that the Jackmobile would be there this morning because it wouldn’t start. I suppose I’ll give them a call today to get them started looking at it so that they can get it running again.

It may be time to start researching my next automobile…

Without a car I bummed a ride with the boss and instead of playing racquetball we went to The Olde Blind Dog for drinks and dinner. My initial plan was to take MARTA down to the airport and rent a car, it’s surprising how many car rental locations close at 6:00pm, but instead I was talked into waiting to see what’s wrong with the Jackmobile before renting a car for the weekend.

My boss generously allowed me to sleep on his couch and brought me into work. At some point this morning I’ll hike over to a store and buy myself a new shirt to wear today.

Hope that you all are heading into the weekend in better shape (figuratively as well as literally) than I am.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

I think this would have been a better story

After pushing the Jackmobile so that it was pointed down the first floor ramp of the parking garage the tow truck driver lost control and the Jackmobile launched off the parking deck meeting its ultimate demise. 🙂

Car troubles are not fun. Hope it gets sorted out.

  2. Hehe. It would have launched itself onto a grass field, so no ultimate demise would have occurred. I suppose a new starter (the initial diagnosis from last night) will still be cheaper than a month’s car payment on a new car.

I just returned from Target and I am now the proud owner of a $5 clearance shirt that I’ll be sporting in a little while.

  3. I suppose that I should mention that I am trying to stay positive through this (as well as all of the other things working on me at the moment).

    – The Jackmobile could have stopped working in Greenville, not Atlanta.
    – The Jackmobile could have stopped working while parked three floors under the Woodruff Arts Center, instead of one floor up in my office’s parking garage.
    – Hopefully any repairs will ensure a pleasurable trip to (and from) Black Mountain, NC at the end of next week.

Waiting on toys to be delivered at Stone Mountain. Sorry to hear about the Jackmobile.

  5. Well, it was the starter. It’s fixed, but I have no idea how much this is going to cost me yet.

I’m sure it is less than a car payment 🙂

On a positive note (for me) my 3:30 to 5PM meeting for today has cancelled!!! Woo hoo!

  7. A little more expensive than I hoped, but still cheaper than one month’s car payment. Now if I can avoid the mechanic for awhile that’ll be awesome.
