Winner, Winner, No Chicken Dinner

Nor beef dinner for that matter.

I met up with Aron and ITP-Reader Stacy at Midtown Tavern last night where we battled three other teams in trivia. We won.

What we didn’t win was the dinner that we ordered. After awhile it became clear that our orders were not arriving. And, when we finally asked we found out that the kitchen’s printer was not getting orders. (All I could picture in my mind was Gordon Ramsay going berserk over this.) Were the place crowded with hungry trivia players this may have been detected and resolved quickly, but alas it was not. During the final round of the game we canceled our food orders and settled up our $28.50 bar tab, which was covered by our $30 in previous trivia winnings.

Hungry when I arrived home I heated up a frozen Jamaican beef patty (purchased a box of them at Costco) and finished off some chocolate-covered almonds that I purchased at Target after Christmas.

Next week: A return to Corner Tavern in Edgewood for trivia.

Further discouraging an immediate return to Midtown Tavern was the appearance of two smokers at the bar; we are under the impression that Midtown Tavern is non-smoking inside, but the bartenders gave each man an ashtray so perhaps they’ve reverted back to smoking or just ignore their own rule?

My Thick Skull Continues To Flake
Fuck.

For the past two days I have been using Neutrogena’s “Extra Strength” T/Gel shampoo with no apparent success; I know, it’s only been two days. Today I will resume using the cream prescribed by my doctor; it truly makes it impossible for me to have any look other that “Messy Man” so I was hoping the shampoo would start working. If no improvement occurs by next week I will have to return to my doctor for further investigation.

This is really puzzling to me because I don’t ever recall having anything of this sort during my near-forty-years of adult life. It’s a good thing that I have so many other bodily maladies that keep away the ladies, else I might be worried that my new dry scalp has been repelling them.

Can we add “dry scalp” to the “Dad Bod” that’s been in the news lately?

Weekend Agenda
I am going to try and keep tonight a free night. I really need to do three things this weekend:

  1. Clean and organize my house. I want it to stop looking as if someone has ransacked the place.
  2. Get a long bike ride in tomorrow morning.
  3. Go to work for awhile on Sunday, and follow that with doing laundry.

Oh yeah, I also need to do German homework as well as more of my “After Ten Coding” project.

Hope that you have a great weekend.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

    1. Sucks getting old, don’t it. Wait till you catch up to me.
    2. The burglars called. They were in your house, but it looked like somebody beat them to it, so they left.

I “celebrate” 20 years at the Fed today. I’m not sure you ever really celebrate a work anniversary, but I like working here- it generally isn’t hard or stressful, and I’m appreciated so that makes it pleasurable.

We have a houseguest who is working a horse event at Chatt Hills all weekend, I convinced Debbie to get up “early” tomorrow and join me for a brief work visit, then on to the OHOP for breakfast.

Paulie, is there a ride in your future Sunday? Debbie is booked so I’m free.

And Barb, have a great trip!

Good to hear you won at trivia – always a good thing.

As for the dry scalp, it takes more than 2 days, give the shampoo a chance to work.

I’m all packed already for the trip to Playa del Carmen for a wedding – we don’t leave until Saturday morning. Now there are a few more little things I need to do (like find travel size sunscreen) but I’m ready to go. We will be back Tuesday evening. I think our upgraded suite has wifi, so I may be checking in here from Mexico.

  3. Unfortunately Sunday is going to be bad for me.

I know two days isn’t enough, I’m just impatient. 😉

    Have a fun trip, Barb.

I struggle with a neat house. My parents growing up always kept the house ready for guests at any time so we were not allowed to make messes. They ran a business out of the house so we always had people dropping by. Granted we did have an au pair that helped out but I still like the concept. Laura doesn’t feel the same way and Travis doesn’t care, he leaves a trail of stuff wherever he goes. I hate that we have to scramble to clean whenever people come over.

This weekend Laura is running the twisted ankle 30k, looking forward to another outing with the camper. I am hoping I can get a ride in Sunday afternoon when we return.

Debbie just spoke to an old friend who was struck by a car while riding his bike last Friday- country roads, very few cars, riding along and wakes up in a ditch with his bike on top of him. The driver stopped, but admitted he never saw him. Clavicle, arm, lots of road rash… Let’s be careful out there…

  6. bob says:

Damn Steve, that sucks! I don’t know if there have been more car strikes or I am just hearing about more of them. Either way it is starting to scare me on the road as I have Travis to think about now too.

We’re all moved in to the new house in Candler Park! Well, our stuff is all at the new house, we’re still laboriously unpacking which is really hard. But I’m so glad to be in a house again after 3 years in apartments. Goodbye, upstairs neighbors The Stompersons!

  8. Barb says:

    Hi Jenka! CONGRATS!!!
When is the house warming party?

  9. Yeah, what Barb said!

And I agree, there seem to be more vehicle v. bicycle encounters these days. I’m hoping never to have another…

  10. Jenka says:

Tentatively it is 27 June. But I can’t even think about that until I friggin’ unpack all 800 boxes still left to go.

  11. Steve says:

    Woo Hoo! Party at Jenka’s!

Welcome back to the world of Ho Moanership! Right there withya, sista.
