Wanna Get Away?

I sure do.

Oh look, over my eleven years of writing this blog this is the third time I’ve used this title. Ah creativity, where hast thou gone?

It Was A Wonderful Weekend…
…until it started raining at dinner time on Saturday and didn’t stop, hell, hasn’t stopped.

I arrived in Pine Mountain (later than I desired thanks to having to come into the office for a few hours on my day off) to blue skies. I damned myself for not bringing my bicycle for the weather was ideal for riding!

Friday night was a lot of fun, a smallish crowd sitting around drinking after doing a great beer and cheese walk through the woods arranged by Supersuck. I must have known that Friday night was going to be the only good-weather night for I did not go to sleep until 1:30am or so.

On Saturday a larger group convened for a fun 5+ mile hash through FDR State Park — yours truly was DFL. So much for the theory that biking would improve my running.

Dejected by the weather after dinner I went into my tent around 7:30pm on Saturday night for a “little while”. Wouldn’t you know that that “little while” turned into “all night” when I dozed off while reading.

I awoke Sunday morning to the sound of rain, and a quick scan of radar proved that the rain’s end was nowhere in sight. So, I packed up and got the hell out of Dodge. Amazingly I was not the first to depart on Sunday morning, that distinction went to Boner. To be fair, he had much less to disassemble than I did.

I spent the better part of yesterday reassembling my camping gear trying to dry it out — it was all soaking wet by the time I arrived home.

Uff, Back In The Office Of Disarray
My house is a mess, actually only a little worse than its unfortunate normal state these days.

My job is a train wreck. ’nuff said about that.

Waschsalon Monntag!
Ich muss heute Abend im Waschsalon meine Kleidung waschen! (I must wash my clothing at the laundromat tonight!)

I haven’t created a whole lot of dirty clothes since last Monday, but tonight is the best night this week for me to get to the lavanderia and wash them. It’ll also provide two hours for me to work on my German homework for tomorrow night.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Hello from Germany, I feel like I have been here for a week already. I went with the concept of stay awake when you get there and stay up until bed time to avoid jet lag. I think it is working, went to bed last night around 9 and felt pretty good getting up at 6AM this morning. So leaving Atlanta at 5PM, getting about an hour of sleep on the plane then walking around Stuttgart all day I was beat.
Good times though, people are friendly and the beers are good. Now it is off to headquarters for a tour.

Good for you Bob! The other part of that advice that you didn’t get is to turn your body clock to European time before you leave- much easier to sleep on the plane if you’ve already been going to bed on GMT.

I’m sure you had a good time camping, but DAMN, what a helluva weekend to spend outdoors. I thought for a few minutes Saturday there might have been a break long enough to go for a ride. I went in to check the radar and immediately went and collected the horses and took them to the barn, as the skies opened up shortly thereafter.

Terri (Sleazy Rider) has been with us the past couple of days- had a race in Peachtree City to run yesterday morning- seriously ugly to be running in that crap.

We finally got the hay delivery we’ve been waiting for- 185 bales are now neatly stacked inside the mancave- the driver turned a full semi and short trailer around on the driveway and backed right up and unloaded. Worked well, considering is was pouring most of that time.

I’m over this weather (and it isn’t even Winter yet).

Bob – only an hour of sleep on the plane – wow – that had to be for a tired day of sightseeing.

Paulie – Glad you had fun camping – I wish we would have gone, but just couldn’t make it happen.

I did a 2 day breakfast biscuit tasting – Mountain Biscuits Saturday (right near Kennesaw Mtn, and then Red Eyed Mule on Sunday (also in Marietta, closer to the hospital).
I’m not normally a breakfast biscuit person, both were good, Red Eyed Mule’s better (& I got some excellent grits with that one).
I actually got out both mornings & went hiking/walking. It was very damp, at times drizzly, at times raining. But – at least I got a little excercise.

  4. John and Kat saved the weekend by having an extra popup under which food was served.

  5. Oh, and I’m envious of a weekend of biscuit tasting…

A tour of breakfast biscuits sounds amazing!!

  7. Barb says:

It was totally not on purpose.

Guten Tag, we are wrapping up our day now so it is almost beer time 🙂

I was pretty tired walking around but the first class lay flat seat was sort of like sitting in a recliner and watching movies for 6 hours. So only slept for 1 hour but was chillin pretty comfortably the rest of the time. If you have 7 grand burning a hole in your pocket I highly recommend flying first class to Europe.

Over eleven years of writing and you only repeated the subject line three times? I’d say that’s a very respectable ratio.

Oh hey, and in case you didn’t know, the hash is in your hood again tomorrow night (T4T starts at Brownwood Park).

  10. Poop, I have German class tomorrow night.

  11. Steve says:

A shame, since they are likely ending at your house!!

  12. I’d suggest ending somewhere that has decent plumbing…

  13. Barb says:

you must be having as good of a day as I am today……….. no blog?

  14. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Yeah, just looked up and saw that it’s 11:00am!

  15. Steve says:

We can keep going on yesterday’s!!!

  16. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

All I can really add for today was an uneventful night of laundry, finding the Chinese buffet at which I was going to eat has closed, and the fact that I am unprepared for my German class tonight — again.
