The Early Bird Misses (Some) Traffic

Yesterday I confessed blogging late because I stopped and ate breakfast instead of sitting in traffic. Last night’s commute to the lavenderia gave me yet another opportunity to overindulge, and I did just that at Chuy’s. The irony of it all, in addition to a guy who eats too much while constantly spouting a desire to lose weight, was that traffic was actually worse when I left Chuy’s than when I arrived. I managed to make it to the lavanderia, which was thankfully nearly empty, and get all of my clothing washed, dried, and folded and get home before 10:00pm.

On my commute home I stopped at QT and filled my lawnmower gas can up in preparation of this season’s mowings. I’m actually considering hiring someone to cut my front and back lawn this Summer given the amount of travel I have already scheduled.

Big Weekend Ahead
I’ll make all efforts to leave early this afternoon so that I can fight less traffic into midtown. I have a haircut appointment tonight, and then will most likely go to The EARL to hear Mother Falcon perform. You may remember the band name “Mother Falcon” from last year when I heard them perform at Terminal West with Ben Solee. I probably should skip the show and cram for my German exam tomorrow, but I’ve been so good at procrastinating I might as well go into the exam completely unprepared. If I can’t pass the exam this time there I should have another shot in the Fall.

Tomorrow I would like to get a bike ride in during the morning, see my rant about procrastination above, and leave myself enough time to shower and drive to Colony Square for the 1:00pm exam start. We’ll see. Pass or fail I will be going to a housewarming party thrown by one of my German classmates, and her husband. And tomorrow night I have a ticket to the performance of “The Light in the Piazza” at Theatrical Outfit. A busy day, am I right?

Sunday will also be a busy one, especially if the weather is nice. I’d also like to get a morning bike ride in on Sunday (seeing a trend yet?) and then spend part of the afternoon pushing a lawn mower over my weeds and grass.

Lookin’ Good
Well, maybe not. Yesterday I ordered a pair of new Pearl Izumi Men’s Quest Bike Shorts, from eBay. That’s right, eBay. While I’ve yet to get my shit together to sell things on eBay I am finding it to be a decent place to shop for such things a cycling wear. The MSRP for these shorts is $50, I’m paying $39 with free shipping and no sales tax.

Trolling…
ITP-Reader Stacy, did you get your hamburger last night? If so, how was it?

I’m not sure if ITP-Reader Jenka is still an ITP-Reader. If so, I wonder if Jenka is going to attend Sunday Braves games as she has in the past, and will continue her tradition when they become the North Atlanta Braves.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

  1. What, no tribute to Prince?

Truth be told, with the exception of hearing all of the stuff from Purple Rain on the radio when I worked the stockroom of Toys ‘R’ Us in the early 1980s I really never listened to much of his music.

  2. Barb says:

wow- not a Prince fan…….. interesting.
I’ve been laughing at the media – it’s just like when Michael Jackson died.
    But – I like Prince’s music more than Michael Jackson’s, so I don’t mind.
I didn’t watch, but MTV actually showed videos last night. I had to search & search just for the station – I had no idea where it was in the 100s of stations we get. Tons of memories coming back of the 80s in Iowa with the music.

Tomorrow I’m planning on going with a friend up to Black Rock to go hiking – should be interesting.

Sunday – we plan to ride, not sure if it will be mtn bike or road bike.

  3. I think Prince was a really good musician, however his music has never been anything that I sought out to hear.

  4. Stacy says:

Regarding Prince, I think one of the very sobering things was his age: 57. That’s so sadly so young! I’ll be interested to hear what comes out about what the causes were, especially considering all the reports he’d been battling the “flu” lately.

I got the burger at lunch instead of dinner. I ended up having to sit in on a training session last night that was set up in west coast time, so dinner would have been a problem…. lunch, however, was not. And it was DELICIOUS. Hi Five’s offering was the “breakfast burger” with egg and fried green tomato. And, thankfully, I was able to take the call/webex from home in the evening. I love technology. 🙂

Today, I may or may not be doing another $5 burger for lunch, this time at Sidebar. Hashers Frank (Royal F*ck), Claire (can’t remember her hash name) and I are planning to meet there at noon. Sidebar’s offering apparently mimics a Cuban sandwich….only those ingredients atop a burger. Color me intrigued! Oh, and open invite to any ITP-readers in the downtown area who want to join us, corner of Fairlie and Poplar. Bring umbrellas, as it looks like rain.

Speaking of rain, Sweetwater 420 Fest starts today and it looks like it’ll be a repeat of last year. They’ve been working on setting up the stage/protecting the grasses in Centennial Park all week but you know it’s gonna turn into one big mud fest. Um, no thank you. Tonight for me is dinner with friends (a friend is a chef/caterer by trade and making us all dinner – yes please!) and then a production of “Godspell” at my church. Tomorrow is ABSOLUTELY FRIGGIN NOTHING and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Happy Passover tonight to any ITP-readers who celebrate!

  5. Claire = “Blue Ball Special”?

  6. Barb says:

yep -Paulie has her hash name correct

  7. Stacy says:

There you go! 🙂 It’ll be a Royally F*cked Blue Ball Special Cheese Nippy kinda lunch.

  8. Steve says:

I’m not surprised Paulie doesn’t have the Prince appreciation that some of us do. I am not quite as affected as Debbie, as that was right in her sweet spot of age. 57 is definitely too young, as those of us who are 57 would attest.

Debbie went riding last night and I took care of the horses. When I came back in the house there was the smell of death and Isabella had found something to roll in and cover herself. My best guess was armadillo. Her bath was quick and painless and she now smells of oatmeal.

The Weather Channel win the Internet today.

Good luck with your German test tomorrow.

    -FP

  9. Barb says:

what’s special about the Weather Channel today?
I don’t see anything on their front page

  10. Yeah! What’s going on at TWC?

    And danke!

  11. Steve says:

The background on their slides was purple. They had a footer that said “In memory of Prince” which was completely unnecessary.

  12. Jenka says:

I’m here! I’m here! We are actually going to the Braves game tonight, Monday, AND Tuesday, so Sunday is up in the air. Might still go because I love me some Sunday afternoon baseball! Tonight we have seats in the 13th row behind the home dugout, Kevin got them free from one of his clients. Not bad!

There’s no way I will go to as many games when they become the Sminings Braves. I’d have to leave work at 3 in the afternoon to get up there. I’ll probably only go when the Sox come for inter-league play. The new stadium is half a mile from Kevin’s office so I bet he will go to some weeknight games.

  13. Jenka says:

Also, the star of “The Light in the Piazza” is an alum of my alma mater, Ithaca College. ‘Course, he graduated long after I did. Heh.
