Throwback Thursday

Well, the day is here. I speak of my last day as a fifty-year-old of course. 🙂 🙁

Oh, it’s also the day before I start a leave of absence from work. Of course today my body is toying with me, I am tense and feeling tightness. Perhaps it’s nerves?

Wouldn’t it be ironic if I keeled over before getting to Iowa? Yes, though I certainly hope that doesn’t happen.

If I Had Only Known
I broke the news to everyone for whom I cooked lunch yesterday; it was my twist on a going-away lunch. Most were surprised, and at least one had figured out my plan.

At lunch there was a very special crossword puzzle, constructed by one of my coworkers! Within the puzzle was the answer “glenlivet”. For a long time “glenlivet” was the answer I gave when I had no idea what word solved the clue. And one day I uttered “If ‘glenlivet’ is ever the correct answer I am quitting crosswords.” The crossword constructor was one of the people who figured out my plan and put this in his puzzle so that I could uphold my commitment. 🙂 Oh and would luck as have it, he is also the other guy pictured in yesterday’s photo.

I was honored.

Last night I hung out with my soon-to-be-former boss Hank. We went to The Bird in Dunwoody for some beers and dinner. Had I known that Hank was going to pick up the tab I would have ordered something more expensive than a pretzel and two corndogs for dinner.

Throwback Thursday
Today I begin a leave of absence from the job I started nearly twenty years ago. This photo was taken at that startup sometime in the late 1990s when we were part of ATDC on 14th Street.

Look at me. I was so young and so thin!

A Beer, Then Packing
I’m putting off one last load of laundry until tomorrow morning. The caravan to Iowa leaves from Ackworth at 6pm so I will have time to do my laundry, complete my packing, and perhaps mow the lawn, before driving to our meeting point.

Tonight a couple of coworkers would like to have a beer with me as a going-away happy hour. Who am I to deny them?

Found Some D-Cells
At Sage Hill Kroger. On sale, for $2 off the normal price. Score!

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

Not that you are ever late – but remember – traffic up 75 in the evening SUCKS, so give yourself plenty of time.

That was very awesome on the crossword puzzle answer.

    Good luck Paulie…
One door closes (or at least closes partially) another door opens.

  3. Thanks!

Yes, I will leave sufficiently early to ensure that I can be in Ackworth by 17:30.

Ugh, Dish Network announced a record subscriber loss today. Their stock is down 2.50% already today. So much for me dumping some of their stock that I still hold. 🙁

Look at you? Look at that computer! OMG. 😀

And the crossword thing? So awesome.

And, duh. Stock is down because you’re leaving.

  5. Steve says:

So is this really a “leave of absence” to HR or just to you?

Either way, I hope the “new beginning” is a great start to a new chapter- at least in the blog!!

I managed a ride last night, not knowing there was a storm a brewin’ in the direction I was heading. When I started to feel a drop or 2 and could see actual rain and cars with headlights, I did the wise thing and turned tail. As I still wasn’t sure where the actual rain was, I cut a real shortcut and used horse trails to get home. Fortunately, the rain wasn’t following, as I missed a turn and wound up taking a slightly longer route.

I have avoided any TdF info today and plan on speed watching today’s TT once I get home. I doubt much changes…

    Happy last day!!

This is an official LoA, it’s been approved by the president of the company.

I didn’t get a chance to see the big hitters ride their ITT so I have no spoilers.

  7. bob says:

Congrats on the LOA, at least you have an option if you don’t find something when you get back.

Have fun in Iowa, although that drive will be a challenge.

  8. Barb says:

That drive will be a challenge……… a school bus with no bathroom………. I agree.

  9. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

Captain Prepared just messed up. My new tent fan was scheduled to be delivered today. I assumed that it would be delivered by UPS, not USPS. Wrong! Therefore the Mail Hold that started today thwarted the delivery. Poop.

  10. Barb says:

Can you go to the post office tomorrow morning? I’d think it would be there.

  11. Barb says:

And- did you go ride your bike after Allan did the adjustments? he was wondering.

  12. Paulie [eatl/ga] says:

I might be able to get it from the post office, but I have little faith.

Haven’t ridden yet, things got in the way. Will tool around tomorrow and Saturday. Figure I can find help is needed in Iowa.
