Area 51

Birthday #51 has arrived. Phone call from mother already received.

Happy Hours
I shot the shit for awhile around the office before waiting out the torrential rain and driving to Taco Mac to have beers with coworkers. Don’t act surprised…

No “going away” lunch for me; hell, in the eyes of the company I really haven’t gone away (yet).

As an added bonus last night I ran into Amy, the former Taco Mac employee who served me regularly years ago; she happened to be there talking to some of her old friends.

We drank and then shot more shit until some time around 9pm.

Aggravated Birthday to me!

I have uploaded a photo from my iPad to Flickr, but their GD JavaScript makes it impossible to copy the URL using my iPad. It’s as if Yahoo! has done no work on Flickr’s website since the invention of mobile devices.

I will update this section when I get home.

“612 Months” (Chamblee, Georgia, United States)
612 Months
This is how 51 years of aging can look. Of course, I could have showered and shaved before taking a selfie…

I’m Out!
Not in a gay way, nothtatthereisanythingwrongwiththat…

Today is Day 1 of the rest of my life; yours too, by the way.

I have to admit, it’s a bit surreal and will only get more surreal as I load into a school bus and head to Iowa.

This morning I am combatting the surreal by doing some routine things. Currently I am at the lavanderia washing clothes that I intend to pack. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, eh?

Later this morning I will give the grass a quick buzz so that it looks kempt (apparently not a word, but I think you know what I mean) whilst I am away.

After a quick shower I will do my final packing and get into the traveling mindset again.

To The Post Office?
As much as I don’t want to do so I may go to the East Atlanta post office to see if I can get my tent fan package. My greatest fear is that the mail deliverer will see this as a sign to ignore my hold mail request and deliver my mail all next week. You may think that I am being silly, but I am not.

I’m still kicking myself for not realizing the flaw in my plan to have the fan delivered on the same day as my hold mail began.

Now that I have D-cell batteries I may just go to REI or Dick’s Sporting Goods to see if I can find a suitable replacement.

Enjoy your Friday folks!

I will do the best I can to post while doing RAGBRAI.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

A very happy birthday my friend! I’m reading a book on the secret service and one of the protectees has a woman on the side they gave the handle of “Area 51”.

And speaking of Apple- I was attempting to read my book whilst laying in bed last night when my iPad decided it needed to reload and boot up as if it was new. Bringing it back required my Apple password, which I never use, so I gave up and brought it to work where I recovered completely. For a moment I thought it was going to wipe the device! F’ers.

Debbie is meeting old HS friends tomorrow night, so I’m left to my own devices. And a pool/cookout on Sunday should be a nice day. Other than those, my weekend is clear. I keep hoping to get a call from the mower shop, as I’m sure the Ben Hilton will need a machete’ before it needs a lawn mower.

Have a great trip in Iowa!!

    Happy Birthday!!!!

I bet the post office will have your box if you got no mail yesterday.
Have faith in the USPS. (lol)
But – if not – go to Walmart to look for the tent fan first, that is where we bought ours many years ago. Then Target, DSG &/or REI after that.

Sal brought her old bike over last night so Allan could check some measurements against the new bike – looks like its pretty damn close. So – she officially has a new bike (meaning, she paid for it, now I jsut have to get around to depositing her check)

Damn. Tom Domoulin crashed and broke his wrist, out of the Tour and no Olympics.

    Happy Birthday Paulie!!

Have an awesome time on RAGBRAI.

  5. Thanks All!

    Photo updated.

Stopped at Dick’s, picked up a small 5″ fan that takes two D-cell batteries for $10.

Watching the end of today’s TdF stage before going to cut lawn. Should probably organize clothes while “watching”.

  6. steve says:

Oh My!! I’m watching as well…

  7. Barb says:

did you go to the post office?

  8. Debbie Brady says:

Happy Birthday Paulie! Hope today is the start of a great reboot/recharge for you.

  9. I did not. I purchased another fan at Dick’s so after the TdF I mowed the lawn and showered.

I’ve just eaten lunch and am about to wash all of the dirty plates. Once done with that I need to finalize packing. I’m a bit overwhelmed with amount of stuff I “need” for an eight-day trip with seven days of bike riding.

  10. steve says:

Dont forget the earplugs for the bus!

  11. They, and an eye mask, are packed. Thanks for the reminder though.

Eating an early dinner at Zaxby’s in Ackworth since I realized that our itinerary doesn’t show a stop until 21:30, which may mean 20:30 Central, tonight.

  13. Barb says:

I got a text from Paulie – decent internet is hard to come by in Iowa, so many people trying to upload pictures with their phones.
    So, no blog post.
I told him to find a bar with wifi………

But -he did have Mr Pork Chop & 2 Iowa craft beers on Sunday, so he is doing it right.

Happy belated birthday, Paulie! I’ve been off regular FB for a week or two so I missed the notification. Have fun at RAGBRAI!
