Ah, The GD USPS

I should have known that the United States Postal Service would not be the most efficient company in the world. My instructions to them was to deliver all accumulated mail at the end of the hold period; this should have occurred on Tuesday. When I returned home yesterday my mailbox contained a second bundle of held mail, and of course this bundle had the now-cancelled credit card within it. Ugh.

Because I am not yet in possession of a valid Visa card last night I spent a good hour logging onto to accounts and converting all of my auto-pay settings to American Express. Well, almost all, because the City of Atlanta doesn’t take AmEx for water payments. Ugh. In theory I should be in possession of a new Visa today, which will allow me to update my water bill auto-pay, and even go up to Costco, who also no longer accepts AmEx, to renew my membership.

Mow, Mow, Mow Your Lawn
Against all advice I have kept the push lawnmower. I have used it once, and will be taking it out for another spin this morning. Yes, it is more work pushing the engine-less mower around the yard, but I need the exercise. And, because it’s a quiet way of mowing the lawn I will be doing so this morning before going to work, something that I was never able to do with the gas mower.

Perhaps in September I will make the time to attempt to overhaul the gas mower so that I have options next year, assuming that I am still in the ITP Estate come lawn-mowing season.

A New “XYZ Corp” Order
Today marks my first day at “XYZ Corp” without having a direct boss. Of course this will change soon as there is a Engineering Team meeting this afternoon to discuss a reorganization. Stay tuned…

Make it a great Thursday.

Cheers,
Paulie [eatl/ga]

  1. Job done! (8:01am) Best lawn mowing job ever? No, but in the words of the idiot living in the White House “It is a job the likes of which the world has never seen.”

I remember years ago FedEx did a study and determined that because of the USPS inefficiencies it could take over and deliver mail for around 10 cents. I worked with some of the USPS clowns when I was at the airport and these people are nuts. Men in Black movie had it right, aliens all work at the post office.

Good luck in the re-org, I have been through a half a dozen of them. Always interesting.

    • There is a part of me that marvels how cheap it is to send a postcard/letter anywhere in the world. And then there that part of me that grumbles each time I have to deal with the East Atlanta post office.

  3. 8:40am and I have now showered and eaten a hamburger for breakfast. I CANNOT BE STOPPED TODAY!!!

Anyone want to place a bet about this happening? My prediction is Paulie be griping in this space next spring about how he never made time to look at his mower. And he’ll realize once his grass is too tall to get through with his hipster mower. And the cycle will begin anew. 😉

    Boo yah!
“Ladies and Gentlemen, our score at the half is ITP Lurker: 1, ITP: 0….”

  6. Mock if you wish…

Only things bothering me today are tight pants and a painful hip.

      I simply cannot resist low-hanging fruit. 🙂

But, when we can’t see our own patterns, we keep living shit over and over again like the movie Groundhog Day. I’m over undermining myself. Old habits die really hard though.

So, please consider it a gentle nudge, not mocking. Easy for me to see because I’ve been chasing my tail in exactly the same fashion for decades.

        Sigh.
        We did our best.
“We sent a Jeep, a boat and a helicopter….” <— punch line to old joke

Paulie kept the push mower anyway.

At least he'll save on gasoline. 🙂

In other news, I have spent considerable time/effort 3D printing out plastic caps that fit onto common water bottles. Yes, I know every bottle of water already comes with a cap. But these are"red" and "mine". And take 30 minutes each to print.

        Weeee….

So is the new lawnmower a battery operated device? Or an old style reel mower?

The first dog obedience class was last night. I should have gone with Debbie, but I had chores to do and my summer cold is hanging on with claws.

The car is still in the hospital while they wait for a replacement computer! Ugh.

I feel like a slug since I haven’t exercised in a week. And the cold medicine I took last night is still got me feeling dopey(er).

    • The new lawn mower is a new-fangled reel mower made by Fiskars, with no motor other than me. The mower has a chain which increases the speed at which the reel spins.

The day after each day that I do anything physical my hip hurts again. I need to seek help again.

nothing exciting happening in Marietta, I did finally go get a pedicure last night -that was nice! Made some dinner, watched a couple episodes of Longmire.

  9. Geez, I can’t win. The USPS has already delivered mail (unusual for it to happen this early) but UPS, who is supposed to deliver another replacement credit card, has not been by.

    • HamWithCam says:

BTW, I signed up for a USPS “pilot” program whereby I receive a daily email with facsimile images of each piece of First Class US mail I am due to receive that day.

For example, today I am due to receive a bank statement and AmEx bill.
      Weee….

Wait! The USPS has images of every piece of First Class mail I receive?!
      (Yep….)
