Stayed at home, but wasn’t as productive as I hoped.

Bowling Saturday night? Let’s do this!

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 207.8 pounds (-0.6 from last week’s weigh-in), most likely attributable to the amount I sweated while exercising yesterday.

I’m not sure where the bowling is on Saturday, but if anyone’s free earlier in the afternoon and wants to join us: Phil (Screams Like a Girl for you hasher types) and I are going to check out Tucker Brewing in….wait for it….Tucker. 🙂 1pm. We’d both always wanted to try it and apparently they have the food on trucks on Saturdays. Would love to see some ITP readers if the spirit moves yas.

    • Something I will keep in mind. Thanks!

      • Barb says:

We went to Tucker Brewing a few weeks ago – nice facility in a business park, only 3 beers, all were tasty, nothing I felt was that exciting. Food truck the day we went had a good selection, but we didn’t eat (had dinner plans). Should be fun.

  2. Forgot to mention that on my drive home yesterday I discovered that long-time Virginia-Highland bar Hand In Hand has shuttered. When I drive by this morning so I could stop at Wells Fargo I saw in amazement how many Virginia-Highland storefronts are now empty; it appears as if Virginia-Highland needed the BeltLine to come a lot closer.

    • Stacy says:

Hand in Hand shuttered unceremoniously too: no one saw it coming. Well, the public I mean. Which makes you wonder if it would have made a difference? It certainly did for Cowtippers which I believe is still open now, 6 months after planned close.

I think you’re right about the Beltline’s unintentional negative effect on some of these places. As much as it’s benefiting establishments along there, it’s hurting others too that are close but just-not-close-enough.

However, I also wonder if some of these places just maybe became complacent. Those bars and restaurants are so close to where I live but I never think of going to them. Why? Because I never hear about them. Out of sight out of mind.

      • Barb says:

how’s the parking in VA/HI these days? Could that be making any difference? We so rarely get intown to drink anymore, its just too risky and Uber or Lyft isn’t all that cheap from OTP to ITP.

        • Parking is about the same, if not worse. I’m not too sure because Virginia-Highland is rarely a destination for me these days (how snobbish is that!?!? 😂)

    • ITP Lurker says:

From what I’ve been reading VaHi homes are being bought and renovated by families with children, so there’s a demographic shift in the area as well. VaHi just isn’t boho anymore.

Best description I’ve read of the Beltline is it’s Atlanta’a beachfront. I think in time we’ll see more feeder routes off of the Beltline into places like VaHi.

    • Jenka says:

Heading to Taco Mac on Sunday we also noticed that Hand in Hand was closed. Seems weird because it was always pretty packed. I did hear from some of the staff (a few years ago) that there was new ownership and the new owner was shit to work for. But again, that was at least 4 years ago.

  3. Steve says:

I think Saturday will work for bowling- I better not be heading back to Nola!!! Since we started the discussion about bowling with 57thFG, begin there and bowl at NE Plaza?

I don’t think it’s the Beltline, per se. I think there is a bit more natural selection, although PCM may have something to do with it. And if you’re expecting to be supported by your regulars and not doing any advertising you might be writing your own obit. There are a few exceptions to that rule- Georges, Moe & Joes, etc.

Uneventful ride home. I tried to be asleep before the plane took off (a’ la Debbie) and almost managed it.

  4. Steve says:

And Paulie, I have your souvenir with me if you’d like to meet for lunch.

  5. Steve says:

How about the taco place on Crescent? 11:30?

  6. Steve says:

    I was thinking Tin Lizzy’s.

  7. Barb says:

I think we can bowl – and – are we going to 57 Fighter Group too?
I need to check with Allan, but I think Saturday evening is free.

  8. Bonnie says:

If Lurker can bulldoze his way into this community (his words), then I finally decided I can transition from lurker to commenter! Hope you guys don’t mind. And I’m in for bowling Saturday.

  9. Well, might as well finalize bowling plans. What time works best for you all?

  10. Barb says:

BTW – if anyone wants to do a old school silly concert -we are going to Rick Springfield, Lover Boy, Greg Kihn & Tommy Tutone at Chastain Sunday night 8/26.
Allan has to work that show, so I decided, I want to go. Tickets are $45 or $55. a Little high, but Allan will go get them at the box office so we aren’t paying Ticketbastard.
Let me know asap, he’s getting the tickets one of these days soon.

    • ITP Lurker says:

Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, ah! Call 867-5309 now! Operators are standing by…

      • Barb says:

did Tommy Tutone have any other songs? I gave out that phone# more than once back in my younger years, when I was bar hopping in Buckhead.

        • ITP Lurker says:

I only remember that one. Greg Kihn had two that I remember, “Jeopardy” (Our love’s in jeaopardy, baby…” and “The Break Up Song”, (Ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, ah!).

I heard Loverboy on the radio back in the day so much I wanted to puke. Along with REO Speedwagon. Rick Springfield never worked for me.

So, 4 bands, will they all play 2 or 3 songs each? 😉 😉 😉 Sounds like there might be a lot of chaff to get through in search of the wheat that night. Seriously, Chastain will be a great venue for it.

          • Barb says:

oh, we will have a cooler full of wine & beer……. don’t you worry. I love being able to bring our own snacks & booze.
I know some people hate Chastain, but with these bands, I think it will be awesome!
(and FYI – I do love me some REO – don’t be saying bad things about them)

        • ITP Lurker says:

I loved REO Speedwagon until I couldn’t. Not throwing any shade here, there’s just only so many times you can hear any given song in a lifetime, and FM radio knew no such limits. Same with Loverboy.

  11. Those of you who follow me on Instagram can see what Steve brought back from Nola for me. The rest of you will see it tomorrow.

  12. Stacy says:

I can’t remember the last time we got to 50+ comments here.
Who wants to push for 100? 😉

    I jest… I jest…

    :off to look at Instagram

    • And we still haven’t even agreed upon a time for Saturday bowling!

Folks, I am going to say 7:30pm. That’ll give anyone who wants to do something prior to bowling time to meet up and then come to the festivities.

      Anyone have a counteroffer?

      • Stacy says:

Prior to bowling time = TUCKER BREWING!

        heeheheee 🙂

        #54

        • Barb says:

I can’t afford to drink at Tucker Brewing from 1pm until 7pm…………
          LOL
Bowling at 7:30 sounds fine – but we should have dinner before somewhere. Any good Taquerias around there?

    • ITP Lurker says:

      It’s a hasher blog, so shouldn’t the goal be 69? 😉

It does tend to be feast or famine here on the blog.

  13. Steve says:

Barb, what was the good Chinese up on Buford Hwy? I thought you said it was comparable to TC, just not as handy.

  14. Barb says:

there’s a Ramen place up closer to 285 – you can watch them make fresh ramen. (no booze there) – its near Peach Auto.
LanZhou Ramen – 5231 Buford Hey NE Doraville, GA 30340

  15. And I was concerned about how short I cut my lawn on Saturday morning…
