Yesterday was a busy day, at least until dinner time when I decided to shut it all down prior to falling asleep very early.

Because of the nasty weather I allotted extra time to drive up to Sandy Springs for my feta cheese tasting paid survey. With the extra time I drove around areas I used to frequent and was stunned at the number of stores and restaurants that have closed in the past 5.5 years. Some of the closures can be credited to COVID, but others I can’t understand.

Speaking of closures, I saw that the Little Five Points Zesto is not returning, at least that’s what I gather from the fencing and the For Lease signage. I know the building suffered damage from a large tree earlier this year, but I assumed that the L5P mainstay would return.

I stopped into Kroger upon returning to East Atlanta after a very long commute home. I had to buy a few tubes of crescent rolls for my dinner creation. I made a casserole (you are shocked, I’m sure) in which the crescent rolls sandwiched ground “beef”, mushrooms, sauerkraut, and cheese; the casserole was very tasty. 😋

On YouTube I have been watching a baking competition show from South Africa. Along with being another outlet for product placements, they have made an interesting choice to clad the women bakers in blue aprons and the men in pink ones.

This morning will see me doing a few local chores, hitting Publix and Ace Hardware before returning to Kroger to fill the M6’s tank prior to the Christmas rush. At Ace I will be picking up my new coffee maker, which I have been told arrived at the store yesterday. At Publix I will be buying a dessert so that I have a receipt to use to attempt to claim my $20 from Philadelphia Cream Cheese.

Tonight is Top Chef dinner night, and it’s Betsy’s turn to provide the food. She has ordered a dinner from a neighborhood chef, so I am looking forward to seeing what we eat.

Hope that you have all of your Christmas shopping done and that are remaining healthy.

  1. I somehow think Ibotta knows what I am about to buy, and manages to remove those offers right before I do. It happened yesterday with Beyond beef at Kroger, and today with Cakebites at Publix. This is eerie… and annoying.

After my feta tasting, I had a horrible 1 1/4 hour drive home. Most was traffic (rain, lots of accidents plus construction around 400 and 285) but there may have been a couple “Bonnie-isms”. 🙄 After recuperating at home for a bit, I drive down to Morrow (well, the husband drove me 😁) to shop for eyeglasses at LensCrafters and Pearle Vision. Sounds crazy but I’m telling you driving down 75 took less time and drama then heading anywhere north. I picked out a few pairs at two places, and I’m thinking on them. I’ll try and get an appointment at my eye doctor’s boutique today or tomorrow just to compare. If I go with one of the chains I may get a pair of prescription sunglasses as well, as a second pair is discounted 40-50%. Warby Parker isn’t covered by my insurance, Paulie. No sure what else today holds yet…

    • Poop on your insurance! Perhaps in January you can join me on my journey to Warby Parker. I understand there are a few breweries in its neighborhood. 🙄😁

Just to show how my brain works I read “feta tasting” as “beta testing” and then was like, wait, what? 😂

Very smart to head south when you have the option this time of year. Although I’m in Buckhead this morning on an errand and traffic was easy-breezy. I love being in Atlanta during holidays when the city empties out.

An uneventful drive home from the museum. Seeing how F’d 75 South was, I bailed on the interstate and went home via Carrollton. No traffic, more scenic, but no Tasty China stop!

I got inspired on the trainer last night and rode for 70 minutes. I would have stopped, but was close to completing a route, so stuck with it.

I did get a call from the boss yesterday- seems my partner has a “medical situation” and can’t come into the bank. If the going gets tough, it will be up to me.

I’ll be heading to West End to drop Xmas off with my sister later today…

  4. Back from my journey. Car is full of gas, coffee maker is at home, and I spent more at Publix than I intended. If I play my cards right I shouldn’t have to do any grocery shopping prior to 2022’s arrival.

  5. Barb says:

I survived my dental work, feeling tired, still a little swollen, but not it too bad of shape. Meeting a friend for lunch, going to McCallisters so I can get soup. Soft food diet is so fun…..

    • Beer is cold, soothing, and requires no chewing. Just sayin’.

I’ve been a regular at Smoothie King since I’ve had braces. My go to sweet at home is those pudding cups from my childhood because pudding goes right down and doesn’t stick to anything. I have at least another year of this fun, and then some unknown amount of restorative dental work, so I expect to be eating smoothies and pudding for a long time yet to come. The protein smoothies at Smoothie King are working for me.

Anyway, I feel your pain. Hang in there!

      • Barb says:

Thanks David. I’m going to make a smoothie soon.
and I did buy those pudding cups when I decided to do this dental shit. I do enjoy chocolate pudding. And some black cherry jello cups.
I’m feeling pretty good overall, just no lower back molars for a few months will be interesting. Once healed I’ll figure out how annoying.

        • David says:

Yikes, Barb, that sounds tricky. From my experience with braces you’ll figure out quickly which foods are worth it and which aren’t. Having dental things going on is a sure-fire way to eat less, that is for sure.

    • Steve says:

That’s great news, Barb. I was just about to hit you up and see how you were doing.

  6. Steve says:

Well, fuck. Tour of Utah not happening, sounds like permanent. So much for UCI stage races in this country.

    • Barb says:

I didn’t know that race was still in existence. Bummer.
I hear Kevin might have a new team, based in Germany (I think) but I wasn’t paying enough attention. I’ll have to find out.

  7. Well that was interesting. Tried to get into an IntelliZoom survey and got bounced when I answered the first question, that I am white.
