Beware of the Ides of March…

I am spending far too much money, so the paring started yesterday. I canceled my Spotify Premium subscription, saving me $9.99/month. Next on the list is Netflix. After that I will review my credit card bills to see where else the money is going and I can stop from going. My fear is that I will chip away only to have inflation and unexpected expenses overwhelm any gains.

Yesterday I made a trip to Lowe’s for soil, most of which has already been used to fill grow bags in which I planted potatoes. WLF 2022 is underway, and I am hoping that we have seen the last extensive frost until next winter.

In the afternoon I updated my iOS devices to the newly-released 15.4. Apple has updated the screens which appear after the update , and at first I was concerned that my phone had been wiped clean upon updating. Was I ever glad to discover that I was wrong.

After a false start over the weekend I finally got into a Curion study again. This one is on 3/28 in John’s Creek, which is less desirable than the Chamblee one into which I though I had gotten after answering questions on Friday.

I decided that I was too sore and injured to attend last night’s hash, so I stayed home. I watched the Netflix documentary “The River Runner”, which was very good, if not a bit sad. The story is about a kayaker’s quest to run the four rivers which emerge for a mountain in Asia.

I intended to return to Lowe’s today at 6am to purchase more soil, but as it’s now 6:40am I guess that is not going to happen. Ooops!

Hope your week has started well and that you are remaining healthy.

I solved today’s Wordle in TWO attempts. A fortunate starting word hit big today.

Tuesday Tale of the Tape: 187.2 pounds (-0.8 from last week’s weigh-in); not much, but in the desired direction

  1. Here’s something I don’t say often: I made my coffee too strong today. It’s almost undrinkable.

  2. Bonnie says:

The CR-V is getting a hitch today! It’s in Marietta so the plan was to hike up there somewhere afterward but the weather is looking sketch. 🙁

    • Yay for the hitch!
Boo for the weather ruining your hiking plan!

    • Barb says:

Bonnie – where are you getting the hitch installed?

      • Bonnie says:

We got it at the same place as the Accord hitch: Pat Rodgers Hitches—the folks at Atlanta Cycling had told us to go there. Got ‘er done and got the 1.25” to 2” adapter for my bike rack so it will fit on this car too. The CR-V will make its debut at Wheelhopper this weekend!

      • Bonnie says:

The husband started test riding bikes today. He rode a FX4 carbon hybrid but it was too small. He rode an XL in a lower-end model and it fit better. The bike supply chain is still jacked to hell so it’s going to be hard…

  3. As I predicted the hard freeze killed every last volunteer tomato plant that had started to grow in one of my raised beds.

    • Barb says:

you got volunteers this early? Wow! I’ve only gotten them way into the growing season.
you need to find some free dirt. You buy a lot of dirt.

      • I do buy a lot of dirt. For the second consecutive year I am filling large grow bags for the first time, and they take a lot of soil. I am trying to make my own, but like everything else related to WLF it is a very inefficient process.

At least my last and next purchases are funded by Ibotta and Fetch “rewards”.

I know that I can get free mulch/compost from Dekalb County, if I pick it up, but I am worried about the content that goes into making their mulch/compost.

        • Steve says:

As opposed to the mulch that goes in bags? What you might get is a little of is tinsel.

Any time you want real, organic, genuine horse manure, just let me know.

  4. Steve says:

Instead of being good and working out last night, Debbie convinced me to go out and celebrate Pi Day with pizza. Then then at the grocery, we just had to have an apple pie.

In the office today and Thursday this week. Today, the “Tiger Team” that has assisted getting the president good response time is on site. The manager who is our local contact did say “this is just for show”. Such a waste of money, but we look good.

    • Bob says:

I have been on “Tiger teams” before, always hated that name.

      • Barb says:

why is it called a Tiger Team?

        • Bob says:

Good question, nobody really knows. I imagine some exec heard it at some conference and just ran with it.

        • Bob says:

          Google for the win!

A tiger team is a specialized, cross-functional team brought together to solve or investigate a specific problem or critical issue. The term “tiger team” originates from the military and was made famous by NASA who deployed a tiger team during the Apollo 13 mission in 1970.

  5. Barb says:

Paulie – better get on that wordle app. I’m seeing jsut today Worldle (picking country’s by the shape?) Quordle – doing 4 worlds at the same time, and now Octordle – 8 words?
then the ones that are 6 & 7 letters, I’ve forgotten those names.
