Seeing a lot of Apple apps crash in iPadOS 16.1. This is unusual.

Back “in the office” for another long day of focus grouping. Sorry I can’t say what it’s about or with whom I am working, because I signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement and don’t want to lose the payout. Barb, to answer a question I missed yesterday, yes, I am on camera the entire day.

I solved today’s Wordle in five attempts; my starter today was BLAST

  1. Don’t expect mail today, it’s Veterans Day! Happy long weekend, Steve.

There is something wrong in the world when I am working and Steve is not. LOL!

Wordle in 4 today starting with SPACE. 42 for the mini. TIL Bill Gates likes AUDIO as a starting word. Will Shortz, NYT crossword editor likes AROSE. The WordleBot used to like CRANE but now likes SLATE.

My wife signed a year lease on a house in East Lake yesterday. We’re finally calling off our years of internecine warfare and separating for at least a year. I’m staying in the house with the kids. This is progress, trust me, we’ve tried everything else short of me leaving. At one point over the summer I had a lease in hand and movers lined up but I couldn’t leave my kids behind. So, that’s the backstory behind me using SPACE as my Wordle starter. It’s not a reference to the final frontier, but a reference to what I need, which is space. I carved out space from my aging parents, the bill for traumatizing me for decades has come due. The separation begins after Christmas.

    • Wow, big step (forward). I wish you the best of luck with this.

FWIW – I’d use ADIEU before I’d use AUDIO, but that’s probably because I’m a Mac user… *snark*

      • David says:

Well played there, Paulie. The article I read said lots of folks try to maximize vowels, but I agree with the counterpoint that consonants are where its at with regard to thinning the pool of possible words. I think we’re all conditioned to think “I need to buy a vowel” from Wheel of Fortune.

I have noticed random app crashes on my iPhone lately as well. It’s frustrating.

Thank you for your support. It is definitely a big step, one that has been a long time coming.

        • Barb says:

I just use Paulie’s start word – I do not take this wordle game all that seriously. 😉

          • David says:

Yes, I’m getting better at loosening up about it. I realized I was giving it far too much power over my mood in the morning.

    • Steve says:

David, I hope everything works out for the best. Love can be hard.

Since the Birmingham project is not going as well as it should, there was talk of cancelling my vacation next week, but I talked them out of it. I will still worry and will likely check in through the week.

Today looks like a lazy day with the rain and all. Debbie took today, so maybe we’ll go get into trouble.

      Hug a veteran today.

Wordle in 3, mini under 2

      • David says:

I served in the Navy, and am open for hugs. 😉

Thank you, Steve. Love is hard indeed. That’s a lot of why it’s been so hard to get to this point. We’d hit rock bottom, have a dead cat bounce of a honeymoon period where things would be “good”, and then we’d get back to figuring out the next stratification of rock bottom. Rinse and repeat.

    • Jenka says:

As someone who has been through a divorce, I will say: I’m sorry for you, and congratulations. I hope you get the space to become your true self.

      • David says:

Thank you, Jenka, I knew you would be able to relate, especially as a step-mom. It’s remarkable how far into one’s life one can get being buried in denial and distraction. When you don’t know, you truly don’t know.

I am definitely attuned to how much happier people are in a second marriage. And folks choose well the first time. I am in NO rush anything new, I still have much more self-improvement ahead first. I will say that I am gonna be good for somebody though. Maybe my wife, maybe somebody else.

  3. Barb says:

2 8 hour days? That one has to pay pretty well.

David – that’s a big move – but you guys have to do what’s best for you 2, and for the kids.
internecine warfare – I’ve never heard that term, but I do understand what it means.
Hope this year gets you to a place where you both can be happy.

    • David says:

Thank you, Barb. It’s run far longer than it should have, but that’s always much more clear in hindsight. I am going to be happy. One way or another. I have crossed the Rubicon, there is no going back. Time will tell with my wife. She wasn’t *that* unhappy with David 1.0. The problem is I was miserable and deluded myself from realizing it for far too long. I am definitely David 2.0 now, and making my way toward David 3.0. Time will tell whether we can find a way to do more that just get along together. As a good friend told me this week, getting along is for co-workers. There needs to be so much more in a relationship.

I do have a thing for $2 words like internecine. 🙂

    • 8-6 each day, so two ten-hour days. To be fair, we finished at 5:30pm yesterday. I’ll tell you all about it when I receive my payment.

  4. Barb says:

I know it doesn’t matter – but this clue confused me with the answer
    4 down – A club, or a spice
I got it with the other clues – but still……..
    just over 1 minute today

Wordle in 5 – but my 4th answer was because of my job, I used the wrong vowel for the 2nd letter

  5. Bob says:

I had to Google that word David, I had never heard it before 🙂
Good on ya for recognizing the situation and separating instead of being miserable in front of the kids. However it turns out your kids will see that you dealt with an uncomfortable situation instead of dragging it out. Everybody will learn from this.

Paulie working? Did I miss something and it is 2023 somehow?

Got my shingles vaccine yesterday and since I have PTO to burn I took today off. My arm hurts and I’m tired as hell but not too uncomfortable. I’ll get some quality couch time today 🙂

    • Steve says:

Is that the first or second? Second worse than the first.

    • Davif says:

Thanks, Bob. It has run a lot longer than it should with regard to my kids, but at every step I have mitigated where I can and made the best decisions I could in each moment. The kids will definitely learn from it. My teenage daughter has already demonstrated that she has.

I need to get onboard with the shingles shots at some point.

    • This is a paid focus group. This is not work that will pay the bills.

  6. Barb says:

tried to use a visa gift card to buy something on the Sleep Number website – I have a $50 credit that is expiring. It wouldn’t take the damn card, probably because what I was buying was a little more than the amount of the card. Pissed me off – thought maybe I’d get lucky & it would have for payment again for the balance. Nope!

  7. Jenka says:

Hello from the airport! I’m enjoying breakfast and a glass of champers.

  8. Jenka says:

Sorry, I should’ve waited to comment until I had done Wordle. You’re just going to get 18 thousand comments from me today! About to board so I’ll shut up now.

    Wordle in 4 using SPACE.

  9. David says:

I saw literally the fattest hawk I have ever seen. He was as round as a Thanksgiving turkey. Maybe he was puffing his feathers out, but he clearly has been eating very well. He was hanging out atop a church sign so I had a close view.

  10. HEADED INTO MY LAST HOUR!
