Well, the squirrels (I presume) have maintained their reputation of being the greediest assholes in the garden. I uncovered a bed of small radicchio plants so that they could get more sun, or rain, whatever we got yesterday, and when I went to cover them again they were all gone. Also, there was a big divot where one of my tiny onion plants was, probably killing it too. Assholes!

I picked up my friend Scott at 5:00 AM yesterday to take him to the hospital for back surgery. It was good to be in the visitor chair instead of the bed when he was in pre-op. Emory runs a tight ship, he had very little waiting around, which is good because people needing back surgery can ill-afford long sits in waiting room chairs. The surgery was a success and Scott should be home later today.
Tomorrow I’m making a day trip to Columbia. I am eschewing a hotel stay because of kid obligations tonight and Saturday morning. Plus Columbia just feels soulless to me. Hopefully the conference I’m sponsoring will be productive though.
My fundamentals of dance class starts on Saturday. Apparently I’ll be using a barre, which is not something I ever expected to do. There’s 5 weekly sessions and each session covers a different aspect of dance.
Paulie, it sounds like you need to take up falconry to dispatch the squirrels. Or maybe just befriend a neighborhood hawk. 😉
Thought I only spent a weekend there I thought Columbia was alright.

I liked the path by the river but otherwise it seems like a giant suburb, but I also haven’t dug very deep there. When I was looked for restaurants on a stopover everything seemed to just chain locations.
we have 3 friends (that don’t know each other) that live in the Columbia area. We’ve been meaning to get over there for a visit – I especially want to see Vern since he’s had so many health setbacks.
Someday I will be able to comment on Columbia.

We were slugs last night. Catching up on a couple of episodes of “Night Sky”. Interesting, but odd.
We’re off to Aiken Saturday to see an eventing show (?), market (?). I’m just along for the ride.
We heard from our co-worker yesterday that she has the cooties. It’s still out there, despite what we all want to believe…

I continue to see people wearing masks. I almost believe I had “it” last month even though my freebie, and expired, test said otherwise.
Covid definitely isn’t gone, but – its now closer to the flu because of the vaccines. People that are still wearing masks, probably have health issues & should have been wearing them all along, these past couple years just taught them the importance of them.

For a few WLF benefits I need to cut back some trees, also known as the critter superhighway. I reached out to some tree companies, but am being ghosted at the moment.
Squirrels don’t need trees to navigate, just to nest. Ours torment George to no end, running across the backyard and giving him their tiny little squirrel finger!
But they are less likely to choose my yard if they are more exposed, or so I believe.
Take out the trees to make them more exposed then take out the squirrels with a BB gun 🙂
We used to have a fox den 2 doors down and the rodent population went way down. Now that the fox are gone there are all sorts of squirrels, chipmunks, and moles around here

Made a Kroger trip this morning, mainly for fake meats, egg, milk, and greens. My total was $62, after “saving” $31, and then I received $10 back using the Ibotta app. #winning
for Ibotta -do you have to scan everything? or is it just the receipt? So many appts – Davey got me to use Upside, but I’m still not to even $20 in rebates. I’m not sure I have time to bother with all these apps.
Just the receipt, but you have to clip the coupons. It can be a pain in the ass, until I save $10 on food I’d normally buy.
I’m a little sour on Upside. I requested a $15 gift card, but have not received it. And because I signed up using my Apple ID (instead of an email), I don’t know the private email account associated with the account.
Got my twice-yearly hair done last night and then met a friend at Kitty Dare. That place says that it’s mediterranean but all it has is some hummus on the appetizer list and then all the entrees are pasta. Still good, just more Italian with Greek influences.
My hair is very bouncy.
I’m getting a haircut at 1030 – guess I ought to get showered, etc. to leave the house this early

A little bit of warmer weather and a touch of rain and it is almost comical how many volunteer plants are sprouting all around WLF.
Is that volunteer good or bad?
Unsure yet, though I gather they are mostly tomato plants from the seeds strewn about by the rotting fruit and squirrel devastation.
Some could be flowers from seeds that were distributed by the wind.
Time will tell.
Those that are definitely weeds are getting pulled immediately.
I will need volunteer tomato plants again this year.
I will be glad to give you any that make it to a transplanting size.
I tweaked my knee again the other night and am hobbling today. Poop.
