I’m a little surprised that not a single person commented on the fact that I saw a bobcat on my ride yesterday. Other than the bobcat I almost stopped to take a photo of a skeleton wearing a flamingo inner tube. šŸ˜€ My knees hurt every time I got out of the saddle to pedal and are still a bit beaten up from the ride. BRAG is going to be an experiment in pain management.

As I sit at my mother’s and watch tv I continue to see commercials for shows that I can’t believe have been created. There is so much “reality” tv out there that I could never stand to watch.

I solved todayā€™s Wordle in six attempts; my starter today was FLAME. I made a royal mess of today’s game.

Wordle in 3 starting with LEAST. A bobcat sighting would be a pretty cool experience. I need to figure out what my Grinchy fingers will pluck out of my house today.

Today’s target was a laundry cabinet. I was able to pass along a bottle of hot tub chemicals to my neighbor that actually has a hot tub (we had an inflatable pool during part of the pandemic). I also tossed some partially used products that I’ll never use. I also had a productive Home Depot trip and bought a massive fern for my front porch that exactly fits the pot that a previous fern filled prior to last winter’s major cold snap killing it. I didn’t know it was possible to buy a fern that big. My front porch is almost ready for the season.

A bobcat sighting is pretty cool.

Sorry your knees are still giving you problems. Are you keeping a decent cadence?

It was a quick sleep and turnaround to head back to the office this morning and I’m dragging. And my head is spinning a bit. Fun.

    • My cadence is good. Pinellas Trail is flatter than Silver Comet, believe it or not, so with the exception of intersections itā€™s like riding a trainer. I averaged 16.5 mph for the 46 miles.

My knees usually hurt more after a greenway ride, I think it is from the constant pedaling instead of going uphill and downhill where your level of effort changes.

Day 2 in Key West is over, it was really fun for a day & a half. More time there would be fun if we planned some tours or activities- but to just wander around drinking (& occasionally eating) it was enough. Hit most of the places we wanted to. If we ever notice the ferry boat has a sale again, we may buy tickets again.

Today we are in Fort Myers, not sure whatā€™s on the agenda (besides going to Skyline for some chili).
Tomorrow we drive home, with a stop in St Pete for lunch with a friend.

  4. Barb says:

Oh yeah, and Bobcat sighting, very cool, I totally missed your comment about it.

Wordle in 4. Wasn’t thinking straight this morning. Still have a cough which kept me up last night. Plus I rode with Jean yesterday. She tried to kill me. Sorry your knee isn’t feeling good. Maybe a cortisone shot before BRAG and some PT? How’s your knee Bob? Speaking of Bob….a bobcat is always cool to see. They don’t bother me as much as seeing a mountain lion does. Looks like another nice day in store for us.

    • Bob says:

Unfortunately I have had a setback, big ride on Sunday made my knee angry šŸ™ I have some anti-inflammatory medicine the doctor gave me that seems to be helping. I’ll be doing PT leading up to BRAG and hope to be able to manage the pain.

The Braves-Red Sox game was fun, despite the fact that the Red Sox lost miserably. But I still got to see my team play. We didn’t stay for the whole game (we never do) because of traffic and also it was a school night. The weather was perfect!

There is a shocking amount of shit on TV these days. Thank goodness for streaming services where you can pick and choose what you want to watch!

  7. Barb says:

I never do the Mini on my phone, that was different. And, not a good result. ????
Wordle in 4, my 3rd guess was a total screwed up one.

Yard worker day started right at 0700am right outside our window. itā€™s so damn humid & warm out, I wanted to sit outside by the pool, but the extra noise helped me to decide to stay inside in the AC

    • Jenka says:

Where are you in Ft Myers? Just curious because we usually stay right in the cute downtown.

      • Barb says:

Suburbia. South of downtown. West of the airport & 75.
Itā€™s s out 30 minutes to Fort Myers Beach.

    • David says:

It’s funny, I *only* do the Mini on my phone. I haven’t done today’s yet.

  8. Bob says:

Bobcats are cool, are they aggressive? Maybe only when cornered?

I’m so spoiled with YouTube, Netflix, Pandora, etc. that I have not had to watch or listen to commercials for a few years now. It is worth every penny in my opinion. Although if I had to watch regular TV with all the commercials maybe I would watch less TV and be outside more šŸ™‚

    • David says:

Yes! I value my time way too much to endure commercials. Apparently 99x radio has been resurrected. I listened for maybe 5 minutes until a commercial came on and was like, “nope, nope, nope!”

    • Debbie says:

Healthy bobcats aren’t aggressive. They are pretty stealthy so it’s cool to see one.

      • Yeah the bobcat seemed to rather trot away rather than toward me. I didnā€™t get the best look at it as my cycling glasses arenā€™t prescription so my distance vision isnā€™t the best.

  9. I waited until today to order something from Amazon so that it wonā€™t be delivered until I arrive home, and the price went up $40. Guess I will wait to see if the price drops again.

  10. Reaching the end of my patience rope. Trips to Florida are work trips nowā€¦ Going to be good to hit the road tomorrow.

Speaking of cats, we had a horse in the clinic last week that we think was attacked by a cougar. His throat was severely wounded – breathing through his trachea – and he had scratches all down his side. He had a wounded leg from the tornado that struck West Point a few weeks ago, which may be why the cat went after him. He was stitched up and should heal fine, but what a story for those scars.

On the other hand, what a trouble magnet he is at only 3 and racking up an impressive array of injuries! I had one like that when I was very young and poor. She was always getting hurt and costing me a small fortune in vet bills.

I told the practice manager yesterday that I couldn’t do three days a week, but would do two going forward. I’m sure that is not ideal from their perspective and if they want to part company that is fine. Three 10-hour days for very little pay left little time for finding gigs that actually pay. I think this hybrid will be good for me since I enjoy the structure and the work.

We took my friend’s mare to the clinic for a preg check this morning and she was not pregnant. Very disappointed since everything went perfectly for her insemination. We’re going to try one more thing on Monday and if that doesn’t work, we’ll give up. It’s a shame not to get a baby from her since she’s such a nice horse.

    • David says:

Vet practices are always cycling through people, so you probably have a good shot at keeping your two day a week gig.

      Bummer about the mare!
